The flood/ark story appears in many traditions. There was clearly a folk memory of a big flood which was repeated (doubtless with additions and embellishments) until written history.

An expedition searched Mt Ararat for a mysterious shape that had been captured in a photo from an aircraft. They concluded that the shape was a boat-shaped rock formation.
