And thus we lay bare the fundamental problem. The mockery that one person thinks okay is not okay for someone else, so the only way to cope with it fairly is to treat all mockery with the same disdain and stop getting all high-horsey about it. I don't think that is an error on your part, soontobe.

I think that if someone has deeply held beliefs that in fact defines them and the way they live their life, then if someone mocks those beliefs they are in fact mocking that person too.

That in no way justifies murdering that person.
Turn the other cheek and hold your head up - if your belief is strong you should have no need to be upset at people who do not share those beliefs. You may feel sorrow for them and pray for them.
