Whilst we don't have all the facts, I have read that at least ten people have been killed at the offices of a satirical French magazine in Paris where gunmen have opened fire.

Given the troubled times we are living in should publications try to rein in the content of anything that might be deemed controversial to certain groups because scenarios like this one will make it hardly worth the loss of life/ves, or should free speech prevail at all costs?

Agree Riverwalk. Reading that back, that was pompous.

Nonu Fri 16-Jan-15 21:51:01

Firstly I am not shouting, why would I?

I am afraid I do think your post was obscure , I have no earthly idea to whom you were referring , why don"t you name names .

I appreciate your effort in trying to make your posts clearer in the future

smile

Agus Fri 16-Jan-15 21:46:16

To clarify Nonu I was referring to soontobe.

HTH

Agus Fri 16-Jan-15 21:43:32

Firstly NONU, will you please refrain from SHOUTING

There was nothing obscure in my post that surely it was obvious to whom I was referring.

It,appears it was too much to ask of you so, point taken and I will endure to make my posts much clearer for you in future.

Nonu Fri 16-Jan-15 21:38:09

Well SOUTRA is not PRETTY OBVIOUS to me.Perhaps AGUS would like to name names . Cannot think why she doesn"t

So glad you stepped in , as per. HOWEVER , am still mystified , not nice to be ambiguous IMO.

smile

hmm biting my tongue

alex57currie Fri 16-Jan-15 21:31:25

Wow! What have I stumbled into? Any hoo, I wondered if any one was aware that a Canadian muslim by the name of Jerry Reddick has decided to push the boundaries of free speech and post jokes about the holocaust? Just when you thought bad taste had reached an all time low. His twitter account has been taken down, and he has been arrested. At least nobody was killed for it I hear some utter.
On the same news site I was on, I read that a prominent jewish Rabbi has requested that EU legislation be reconsidered to allow Jewish community members to carry guns. Just to protect themselves and their property. Where is this going to end?

Soutra Fri 16-Jan-15 21:17:04

I thought it was pretty obvious nonu given that agus quoted from the post in question, so not too obscure or hard to work out to whom the remark was addressed.

Nonu Fri 16-Jan-15 21:10:25

AGUS who are you referring to, why not be bold enough to say who you are addressing your remarks to. Don"t think there are that many mind readers on G/N

Probably to much to ask , Hey-Ho

Agus Fri 16-Jan-15 21:04:12

Coming from someone who is free to practise her religion and free to publicly talk about it whenever and wherever to then tell us there is no true freedom is completely illogical.

Neither do I appreciate you telling another poster, you think they are bright enough nor your pompous remark regarding what you worked out decades ago.

absent Fri 16-Jan-15 20:49:27

Jut how many angels can dance on a pin?

Soutra Fri 16-Jan-15 20:33:11

Well I am not prepared to deny the existence of free will, is anybody else? Are our lives entirely pre-ordained? Without free will there can be no sin or redemption as we are not the architects of our fate.
And what on earth (pardon the bad pun ) do you mean by on Earth, or below earth or above Earth??

The tosh quotient is getting out of hand here confused Are we rational, intelligent beings or not?

To return to Christianity for those who are believers, wasn't Jesus sent to set us free?
Getting close to heresy, soontobe!

Riverwalk Fri 16-Jan-15 20:25:38

Well, that's shut everyone up hasn't it? grin

And it was a bit pompous!

soontobe Fri 16-Jan-15 20:08:35

Because there is no freedom, true freedom, on earth or below earth or above earth.
Where could she go? Where can anyone go?

I worked this out decades ago. One small reason why I gave in to God.

petallus Fri 16-Jan-15 19:57:54

And pompous with it.

petallus Fri 16-Jan-15 19:57:12

IMO and based entirely on the quote, Dan Hodges is an idiot.

granjura Fri 16-Jan-15 19:56:01

This is tragically and so wrongly getting far too personal. What a shame.

Soutra Fri 16-Jan-15 19:54:42

Why won't she soontobe?

soontobe Fri 16-Jan-15 19:45:15

thatbags, I think that you are bright enough to know that you may never be properly free.

thatbags Fri 16-Jan-15 19:42:24

Anyroad, the Mayor of Rotterdam is speaking to bullies so, on your own argument, you have no cause for complaint.

thatbags Fri 16-Jan-15 19:41:15

I have never bullied you, jings, and you told me to sod off on at least one occasion. The first time I was quite upset. My use of bollocks is for emphasis. it isn't directed at anyone.

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 16-Jan-15 19:37:28

That was to Bags.

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 16-Jan-15 19:37:09

When I have said things in the past on this forum, it has been because some posters were really horrible. In fact, verging on the attempt to bully. Recognise any of that? angry

Thank God Gransnet has changed since then.

thatbags Fri 16-Jan-15 19:30:20

I'm not interpeting the fuck off attitude with the Enoch Powell attitude of "send them home to their own countries". Perhaps I should be but I'm not. I'm interpreting that fuck off with the comment higher up Hodges' article saying that it's just tough if jihadists don't like Western values; they'll just have to lump it because we aren't giving them up in spite of their violence and barbarism.

Nonu Fri 16-Jan-15 19:26:38

Jing. 18.57
.Iit does indeed, kinda sad really, have to feel for them!!

Suppose how folk are brought up, conditions them.
