Why is the Daily Mail showing awful ISIS pictures?

I dont know if all the other papers are.

I dont think that they used to.

I would like to read up a bit about ISIS. Basic news stuff. I will emphasize the word basic.
Is there a better paper to read online about it?

Online there aren't many in the Indy soontobe. In fact today's leads are concentrating on the ISIS destruction of Iraqi holy sites, which is just as sickening but not in such a stomach-churning way.
To keep up with the news I have to read UK newspapers online and I've noticed that the DM publishes a whole raft of ISIS atrocity stories which they've obviously scoured the globe to find, as they will be from all over the place. They're all together and seem to be the most sickening images they can find. They also seem to be obsessed with JIhadi John, as a day doesn't go by without an article accompanied, however repetitious or tenous, by an image of a masked man with a knife... could be him or any other Jihadi.

The Indy is the best of the 'freebies', but I'm seriously considering forking out a subscription fee for the Times. At least there will be more variety in the content.

To save you time I bought i and no graphic pictures.

soontobe Sat 07-Mar-15 16:42:58

I bought
Guardian
i
Sun
Daily Mail
Telegraph

I did not spot any graphic pictures in any of them [I forgot it was saturday and hence the supplements. For sake of equality I hope, I did not look in them].

I have started to look online.
I have started with the i, but am not sure how to navigate the site to find out how many graphic pictures are on there today, if any.

I will try and have a look at the other online sites of the above newspapers.

i expect oil, and Russia, would come into it somewhere.

jinglbellsfrocks Sat 07-Mar-15 16:29:25

Perhaps we should all become Little Englanders. Bring back all the foreign correspondents, journalists, aid workers, any other Brits, and keep ourselves to ourselves, rather like the Swiss have always done. Wonder what would happen if we did that.

absentgrandma Sat 07-Mar-15 16:19:57

I mean in fighting lawful governments, and capturing sovereign territories, not as 'Lone Wolf' attacks.

I have no idea JBF. I'm not that clever. perhaps there should be a UN resolution forbidding the payment of ransoms, donations and supply of arms to extremist organisations. I can see that happening(lol)

Anya Sat 07-Mar-15 16:01:27

They are a lot closer than that absentgrandma .. remember Lee Rigby and 7/7?

jinglbellsfrocks Sat 07-Mar-15 15:47:48

Wiser heads than mine will have to figure that out. Perhaps the same as the US ? Send people out to train Iranian troops? Supply tanks?

You got any ideas?

absentgrandma Sat 07-Mar-15 15:36:47

They are in our backyards....... having reached the shores of the Med. So, what would you suggest we do?(with our collective headsconfused)

jinglbellsfrocks Sat 07-Mar-15 15:14:31

Perhaps you're right. So, should we put our collective heads in the sand and only worry about what is going on in our own backyard? But, what about when they turn up in our backyard?

absentgrandma Sat 07-Mar-15 14:53:17

The sickening images in rags like the DM are giving ISIS the oxygen of publicity that they need. But while it keeps the DM at the top of the newspaper sales/internet downloads why should the editors worry? Where would they be without ISIS beheadings and the Kardashians?

jinglbellsfrocks Sat 07-Mar-15 14:28:53

soontobe I meant the pictures in the DM today. The awful IS ones. They are not sensationalist. They just show the evil of these people.

Gracesgran Sat 07-Mar-15 13:56:57

It's no good bashing the Daily Mail. Somebody has to report this evil stuff or do we prefer to live in 'head in the sand' Utopia.

All the newspapers will report these things merlotgran. It is how you report them that matters.

How many people said they had no idea what was happening to the Jews in WW2?

Didn't the DM support the Nazis for at least some of the war?

soontobe Sat 07-Mar-15 13:49:51

You dont jingl?
I think that they are now. I didnt used to.

A few Telegraph articles may be enough. Thanks.

Who owns Al Jazeera? I will look into that.

Sounds like the i may be what I am looking for. I am going out soon. I will buy one.
I have decided to buy about 4 different sorts if I can, and compare them.

merlotgran. I would have thought that everyone who reads newspapers, also watches the news on tv.
I dont actually get your point. Sorry.

jinglbellsfrocks Sat 07-Mar-15 13:43:09

I don't think the pictures in the Mail are sensationalist.

Leticia Sat 07-Mar-15 13:40:43

I get the I.
You can only read a few articles in online Telegraph before you have to pay.
I do bash the Daily Mail. I am all for truth- but not 'the truth' Daily Mail style.

jinglbellsfrocks Sat 07-Mar-15 13:33:49

I mean about the jews during WW2.

jinglbellsfrocks Sat 07-Mar-15 13:33:18

Eloethan I quite agree with you about the wars.

Good point merlotgran.

merlotgran Sat 07-Mar-15 13:32:59

So people who are not computer literate do not deserve to be informed, soontobe?

Many people prefer to read a newspaper.

Anya Sat 07-Mar-15 13:31:13

Does anyone else prefer watching Al Jazeera for the World News? I find it gives a far more comprehensive picture of what's actually going on in the world.

grannyactivist Sat 07-Mar-15 13:29:13

The only newspaper that I buy regularly, apart from my local one, is the i. Occasionally I buy the Independent if I'm going on a journey by train and will have the time to read it and I sometimes pick up a Guardian or Observer as a freebie from Waitrose - I then use them to light my woodburner after I've glanced through them.

I think that in this day and age, we already have the message of what they are doing. We are in the age of 2015 technology. Not 1930's technology.

soontobe Sat 07-Mar-15 13:21:25

Thepictures do make it vile now Eloethan. That and all the pictures of women in bikinis and women doing selfies, and women in revealing clothing..
It now feels like a paper that is well and truly run by males.

merlotgran Sat 07-Mar-15 13:21:03

It's no good bashing the Daily Mail. Somebody has to report this evil stuff or do we prefer to live in 'head in the sand' Utopia.

How many people said they had no idea what was happening to the Jews in WW2? hmm

loopylou Sat 07-Mar-15 13:19:05

Aka the Daily Hate Mail, it sells copy, plain & simple.
