Quite rightly he's being suspended but should the BBC be cancelling episodes of Top Gear?

If a man working in a factory punches a colleague he would probably be sacked but I doubt they'd remove the product he was making from the shelves.

jinglbellsfrocks Sat 21-Mar-15 13:14:30

It was reported he went to a & e with blood running down his face.

jinglbellsfrocks Sat 21-Mar-15 13:13:52

I think he should offer to give a large sum of money to a charity of the producer's (sorry, can't remember name') choice.

Ana Sat 21-Mar-15 13:13:50

Do we know JC definitely punched the producer in the face?

There are an awful lot of assumptions on this thread!

jinglbellsfrocks Sat 21-Mar-15 13:12:32

jen has a thread about welfare cuts, but more people are posting on here. I think that what's jen means.

jinglbellsfrocks Sat 21-Mar-15 13:11:41

That's a good point petallus. The two of them will have to work it out between themselves. Separately from the job perhaps. Clarkson has been to the producer's house to apologise, but wasn't let in.

merlotgran Sat 21-Mar-15 13:11:09

I still don't see the connection confused

jinglbellsfrocks Sat 21-Mar-15 13:10:08

Not more important jen. Just more intersting perhaps. We can't take on the whole country's troubles all of the time.

petallus Sat 21-Mar-15 13:07:25

How would you feel about JC if he had publicly humiliated you, called you a c*u*t and punched you in the face Jane10?

Ana Sat 21-Mar-15 12:56:15

confused

durhamjen Sat 21-Mar-15 12:39:11

I cannot believe how many people think that Clarkson is more important than real politics, like the saving of £12 billion from welfare benefits.

Jane10 Sat 21-Mar-15 11:27:08

Jeremy Clarkson does not exactly need additional publicity! He's a world superstar whether or not some people like it. He's obviously not for those of a sensitive disposition or who are hard of laughing. In which case its quite easy- don't watch his programmes or read his (very well written) articles. Simples!

Anniebach Sat 21-Mar-15 11:12:10

Much publicity with the unpleasantness . A case of bad publicity is better than no publicity perhaps

rosequartz Sat 21-Mar-15 10:02:18

I am no fan of JC but I would just say that the Argentinia government is provocative about the Falklands so a gentle poke by that registration is not something to lose sleep over imo.
And who would not like to have their own lavatory with them when travelling in some countries? That is not politically incorrect - eccentric but also sensible. I would be carrying some immodium with me if I went.

Wrecking areas of the countryside wherever they go is another matter entirely, but all of that is beside the point.
It is the alleged assault on a colleague at issue and whether the programmes already filmed should be broadcast.

jinglbellsfrocks Sat 21-Mar-15 09:40:06

very much

jinglbellsfrocks Sat 21-Mar-15 09:39:47

But they could have all three have ditched the BBC without all this unpleasantness. I doubt very that JC is enjoying this.

petallus Sat 21-Mar-15 09:37:10

JC hasn 't been suspended because he is politically incorrect.

It is because he allegedly verbally and physically abused a subordinate.

Anniebach Sat 21-Mar-15 09:36:25

The three can set up their own company, produce their own programme, choose a channel who pays the most to air. Sell products, make spin offs etc
Quite fortunate this has happened as their contracts are ending . And massive free publicity which even Cammeron has added to,

Bet the three are leaping with glee

vampirequeen Sat 21-Mar-15 09:33:17

The incident in Argentina was orchestrated by an anti-British group. The Top Gear team and film crew had traveled all over the country with no problems. It was only in this one small area that they were attacked by people who were mainly outsiders who had deliberately come to attack the British group. They didn't know who they were attacking just that it was a British film crew. As for the registration plate...Clarkson didn't choose it. I didn't see the reference until it was pointed out but then I fail to see most of the allegedly insulting things the programme does. When they go OTT it sometimes makes me cringe but then who is offended? Were the locals in India offended or did they just see yet another eccentric Englishman? Did anyone ask them? Was offence taken on their behalf by the exceedingly politically correct? If the locals were offended then an apology is in order. If not then no apology is necessary.

I used to work with a lady who's husband was so black his skin had a purple sheen. I once asked her how he preferred to be described. Was he black, coloured, African...? She said he didn't care how he was described as long as the word 'bastard' wasn't included and that the only people she knew who bothered about what words to use were white.

In the General Election I won't be voting UKIP, EDL, any other right wing xenophobic party, Conservative or LibDem.

loopylou Sat 21-Mar-15 09:19:09

Definitely not just me
I agree with everything you've said - and yes, just as the contract is ending ....

granjura Sat 21-Mar-15 09:11:18

Mr. Clarkson has, variously: crashed a pickup into a tree to test the truck’s strength, damaging both; been accused of despoiling Botswana’s pristine Makgadikgadi salt pans by driving across them; been chased out of Argentina by an angry crowd after touring in a car with the registration plate H982 FKL, supposedly a provocative reference to the 1982 Falklands War; driven around an Indian slum in a Jaguar fitted with a toilet “because everyone who comes here gets the trots” (a British colloquialism for diarrhea); caused outrage by giving the Nazi salute in a segment about German cars; and sung the nursery rhyme “Eeny, meeny, miny, moe,” appearing to include the line “Catch a nigger by the toe”

From the article linked above.

To me, thinking that those who micht find the above funny- may also have views that do not find the above abhorrent and totally insensitive- and therefore politics to match. Perhaps it is just me.

granjura Fri 20-Mar-15 21:58:18

nope

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 20-Mar-15 21:54:22

Are you on the wrong thread granjura?

thatbags Fri 20-Mar-15 21:52:15

Topical article by Kenan Malik, good as usual by him.

merlotgran Fri 20-Mar-15 21:30:34

I really fail to see a connection between Top Gear and the General Election confused

Just because those people have signed a petition not to sack JC it doesn't mean they'll all vote UKIP

granjura Fri 20-Mar-15 21:23:42

Gawd knows how those people will vote int he actual elections- does not bode well methinks ...
