What are you hoping to see on this programme tonight? I have my fingers crossed that the presenter can keep order although it might be more fun if she can't and all hell is let loose!

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 03-Apr-15 23:21:22

OMG! I've de-railed the effing thread!

I've gone!

Ana Fri 03-Apr-15 23:20:39

Oh, so the answer is to vote Labour - now there's a surprise, durhamjen! grin

POGS Fri 03-Apr-15 23:20:15

soontobe

You are absolutely correct in thinking you read Labour Councils have zero hour contracts, that's because they do!

It is the case that the Green Party also do in Brighton, probably 'all' political parties have zero hour contracts but the reason Labour and The Greens are called hypocrites is obvious, 'Do as we say, not do as we do'.

Anybody who watched last nights debate saw Plaid Cymrus Leader Leanne Wood give Miliband a bloody nose when he was stating Labours policy to 'end' all zero hour contracts.

Leanne Wood challenged his hypocrisy and said Labour voted 'against' a Plaid Cymru amendment in the Welsh Assembly to end zero hour contracts. He just looked belittled and did his head shaking , what me , never guvner look. He soon stopped speaking.

It's either disingenuous or innocently unknown by those who try to make it a right wing propaganda story but I think the public can judge for themselves what is fact or fiction. Anyway if partisan politics trumps the truth then it could be argued the left wing press don't report anything that could possibly go against their chosen party, that's why it's always wisest to establish the truth for yourself and I think that's all Ana was implying.

It's worth watching Labours Cris Leslie being interviewed on the BBC Daily Politics program, 1st April. He came a bit of a cropper over Labours policy on zero hour contracts and the fact some Labour MP's and Councils use them too.

I can't quite get my head round it. Î think I might be tired.

In thrall to.... What the f--- does that mean?! confused

Time for moon said Zebedee.

Penstemmon Fri 03-Apr-15 23:19:05

jingle No they do not mean the same! You are in thrall to something but enthralled by something! In thrall implies more subjugation /obsession whereas enthralled means captivated/ fascinated by something.

Pedantic? yes but correct wink

durhamjen Fri 03-Apr-15 23:17:53

For those who would like to vote for SNP and live in England.

NotTooOld Fri 03-Apr-15 23:13:26

Oh, sorry, posted twice. Jing - of course there is a difference and not very subtle, either. Think of it as enthralled (positive) and in thrall to (negative). Geddit?

NotTooOld Fri 03-Apr-15 23:11:42

Me, too, Penstemmon! Ms Sturgeon was most impressive. I suppose Lichfield is not close enough to count as Scotland? grin

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 03-Apr-15 23:11:17

There's not much difference between 'enthralled by" and being"in thrall of something". It means the same thing. You are nit picking. hmm

NotTooOld Fri 03-Apr-15 23:11:04

Me, too, Penstemmon! Ms Sturgeon was most impressive. I suppose Lichfield is not close enough to count as Scotland? grin

Penstemmon Fri 03-Apr-15 23:03:45

I am glad we were away and did not see the 7 ring circus! I think I'd vote SNP if only I could!! confused

Ana Fri 03-Apr-15 23:00:27

As for 'I am not a child! I have freedoms,' what the hell does that mean?

Ana Fri 03-Apr-15 22:57:04

Soutra, not all households possess an 'everyday dictionary' these days. As soontobe obviously has internet access, I thought it would be simpler to do an online search.

soontobe Fri 03-Apr-15 22:54:07

I dont even know which my favorite newspaper is! So I dont know which paper you are talking about.

I am very slow on bluffs. I cant follow some films for love nor money. So I dont understand at all about a Sturgeon bluff.

No matter. I had better google things at some point to catch up on what is going on away from gransnet.

Good night all.

soontobe Fri 03-Apr-15 22:50:14

Thank you Elegran.
I knew that some on here would be able to give a very good all over definition and context.

I do read some of your links dj. I am not sure why you want that continually proved from me. I am surprised it matters to you to be honest. As you say you take no notice of meateaters, and I am a meat eater.

Is the NHS my priority? Again, I am not sure why my opinion matters to you at all.
It is certainly a priority.
Is it number one priority? Probably not. Probably number three?
I think that finance is probably my number one. Without finance, not a lot of the other things can follow. I would absolutely hate for the country to have "no money" again.

NotTooOld. I did have a little. But I never over indulge. Well I did get a hot and bothered by it once.smile

durhamjen Fri 03-Apr-15 22:47:53

Your favourite newspaper is going to be in trouble, soontobe, for saying that Sturgeon would rather have Cameron in government than Miliband.
She's calling their bluff.

Soutra Fri 03-Apr-15 22:47:52

All rags are newspapers? Or are all newspapers rags? It's a moot point.
Don't bother with Googling enthralled and in thrall to, an everyday dictionary will show you the difference.
I take your point that what we write is (technically) open to however many millions who use a computer. However, I think it is only thread courtesy to respond within the parameters of a conversation unless one chooses to leave that discussion.
The reason I said your support (or not ) for SNP or Plaid Cymru was "academic" was just that unless they are putting up candidates in your constituency, whatever you think of them, you would have no way of registering that support on polling day. For "academic" read "theoretical" as you would be unable to put it into practice.
I believe Nicola Sturgeon and Leanne Wood outperformed the leaders of the "major" parties, so while I might secretly want Nicola for PM , there's not a lot I can do about it South of the Border.

Elegran Fri 03-Apr-15 22:42:22

I am avoiding commenting on politics.

Elegran Fri 03-Apr-15 22:40:59

In thrall to - in the power of another person or doctrine, or under the sway of an influence, subject to, enslaved by, under the domination of.

Enthralled - fascinated, mesmerised, held spellbound, captivated, filled with delight and wonder.

There is a simlarity in their meanings, but enthralled has more delight, and in thrall has more subjugation.

durhamjen Fri 03-Apr-15 22:40:48

Policies of the NHA party, soontobe, just so you can be completely detached and impartial.

nhap.org/our-policies-1/

If you read it, which I do not imagine you will at all, you will find that they have more than one policy.

Everyone says that the NHS is their priority. Do you?

NotTooOld Fri 03-Apr-15 22:38:21

soon to be - did you start on the wine too early tonight? smile

I had a laugh about SNP 'being mostly for Scotland' and Plaid Cymru being 'ditto' !!

soontobe Fri 03-Apr-15 22:33:51

I dont have to if I dont want to Ana! I can be as google lazy as I choose. Or not. I am a not a child! I have freedoms.
It is up to anyone if they choose to answer a question or not.

soontobe Fri 03-Apr-15 22:31:26

Actually, saying that I am never just posting to those on a thread, is probably not very accurate. It is more that I am always mindful of those who read but never post.

Ana Fri 03-Apr-15 22:29:37

Google it. That's what the internet's for, among other things.
