Should you vote tactically?

I think that sometimes there is nothing else to do under this first past the post system.

I cannot vote Tory as their policies so not sit well with me;and in my constituency the Lib Dems were a credible alternative (but I do not think they continue to be as their role in the coalition has been so unpopular); Labour don't stand a chance here and never have. Nothing I do will stop the Tory candidate getting in, so I think I might vote green. The tactical vote would have been Lib Dem, but no longer.

I found the comments much more informative than the actual article. There are obviously some impartial thinkers out there who aren't prepared to accept the lines they're fed.

And I don't just mean Labour supporters.

For anyone who still thinks Labour ruined the economy.

According to NS today, the difference is just 0.1%. Tories ahead with just five seats.
Labour closing the gap.

Just had the LibDem MP at the door. Told him we'd be voting tactically to try to keep the SNP out of our constituency. He's been our MP for some time now and has been a good constituency MP. Didn't vote for him last time but he has been helpful and responsive on matters I contacted him about last year.

In which case it's still best to vote anybody but Tory, as otherwise their majority would be bigger.

We're in a very strong Tory seat, so voting for anyone won't make any difference, and hasn't done so for the 19 years we've lived here.
Definitely feeling apathetic....

Flip a coin ll?

durhamjen Wed 06-May-15 17:29:27

Anybody but Tory, loopylou?

loopylou Wed 06-May-15 17:26:13

Still not got the foggiest idea, totally unimpressed all round.

No idea what to do confused

Good work, whitewave.

Hope Surrey South West has the same sort of support. Labour could do with telling their supporters to vote for Louise Irvine as well.

Rather a fetching little black number with enormous finger nails very high stilettos and black tights plus make up. He was telling us what happened in Scotland when SNP supporters went berserk. Had to giggle. He knows Brighton quite well I think.

Ana Wed 06-May-15 17:01:28

What was he wearing?

whitewave Wed 06-May-15 16:56:53

Just come back from canvassing. Enjoyed it tremendously. Hove is optimisitic it will get the seat from the Tories. Eddie Izzard popped in.

durhamjen Wed 06-May-15 16:52:10

Labour will be as well, anno. The only party that can afford another one is the Tory party.

annodomini Wed 06-May-15 16:37:14

The very good reason why Nick Clegg will cosy up to either Tories of Labour is that the Lib Dems would be seriously in debt if we had another election in the near future.

durhamjen Wed 06-May-15 16:25:44

Nick Clegg won with a majority of 29.9% in 2010. It's now down to 2.5% according to that website, with Tories a distant third.
Hopefully a few more Tories will change their minds and not vote for him as he is now trying to pal up with Labour.

Sheffield Hallam is 4.30, GrannyTwice.

Dj what's that link again for time of declarations please? What time is Shefield H declaring ( unless recounts!)

I can't believe the game NC is now playing. I often vote Libdem locally for all the usual reasons but not anymore. What do they stand for?

Iam64 Wed 06-May-15 07:42:19

That's good news durhamjen - I was in a minority 5 years ago in being very unimpressed by Nick. My feeling now is he'd sell his soul to the devil if it meant he could remain in power.
Yes, I know people drawn to politics/positions of real power need to be driven, self absorbed and certain of their own decision making. It doesn't mean they're all prepared to shift allegiance at the drop of a hat does it.

durhamjen Tue 05-May-15 22:09:27

In yesterday's poll, Labour were still 1% ahead in Sheffield Hallam, Iam64.

Iam64 Tue 05-May-15 19:12:35

It seems tory tactical voting with ensure that Nick Clegg holds on to his seat in Sheffield. I understand why the tories would do this - but I so wish they wouldn't grin

whitewave Tue 05-May-15 10:18:28

The Tory supporters have been told to vote tactically so take a lesson from that and do the same. I certainly would.

soontobe Tue 05-May-15 08:22:02

I am going to take back what I have written about which party/banner. I dont think it will affect me much, but I cant speak for others.
