Too sad to talk about really

Just saw an advert relating to the migrants drowning in the Med. and a picture of someone carrying a baby - all you could see were two little feet in a pink baby grow and the rest of the baby was covered in a blanket she was obviously drowned. I cried.

I think MSF are collaborating with a couple who have hired a rescue boat. I think MSF are well worth supporting. The money goes where it should.

Stansgran Sun 19-Apr-15 22:11:36

Perhaps some of these countries need the iron hand of a powerful un opposed ruler. They seem to collapse into mayhem when they are removed. I read in the ST that they were running out of boats and using rubber dinghies and that the "crew" were not really seamen but just given free passage to run the boat. All too horrible.

Give some money to Save the Children. They are doing what they can.

jinglbellsfrocks Sun 19-Apr-15 22:07:46

What do you want "our country" to do whitewave for God's sake?! We can't sort the whole of bloody Africa out. And stop talking about your "little cockroach". Have some bloody respect.

And stop talking about some stupid cow of a celeb.

She came across reasonably ok on Big Brother.
The Sun must need or want or like the attention she gives them. That is in no way a good enough reason for them to employ her. Or whoever else does such as Loose Women.

durhamjen Sun 19-Apr-15 21:35:20

Did anyone see Farage on Sunday Politics today? He said it was Cameron's and Europe's fault for getting rid of Gaddafi and starting the war that made these refugees go to Europe. The man will say anything to get votes.

I agree with pompa. Katie Hopkins needs to know with what horror the population of Britain sees her ideas.

whitewave Sun 19-Apr-15 21:32:41

Only if they can get enough of the population on board, and I see precious little evidence of that.

Personally I think that she is unbalanced. Think of her poor children.

pompa Sun 19-Apr-15 21:27:38

Ignore this woman at your peril. We have seen what ideologies like this can lead to before.

petra Sun 19-Apr-15 21:20:28

Interesting piece in the MOS today. Gaddaffi (spelling) was warning Italy of this back in 2010. Nobody listened.

whitewave Sun 19-Apr-15 21:11:08

I think the point is being missed here. My little "cockroach" will never have heard of KH and she matters not a jot. What does matter is that babies and children are losing their lives in an attempt to flee from the horrors of war towards a better future. Unfortunately our country appears to have turned it's back. How can we, where is our compassion?

Penstemmon Sun 19-Apr-15 21:05:31

Katie Hopkins was interviewed on Radio 4 this week. She needs to be talked about to exist as a 'name'. I for one will no longer respond in any way to anything she says no matter how appalling. If we could all ignore she might just fade away.

Ana Sun 19-Apr-15 20:40:58

By 'on here' I meant Gransnet. You also brought up the subject and posted the same link on another thread before this one, durhamjen.

But as pompa implies, some people like to know what vitriol is being spouted in the media.

suzied Sun 19-Apr-15 20:40:52

Why isn't our government and other European countries doing something to help the Italians? Why should they deal with this problem on their own? It's horrendous. Imagine if we were getting daily boatloads of refugees coming a cross the channel and drowning, and thousands landing on the Isle of Wight, wouldn't we expect other nations to help? And why are these peope trying to escape from their own countries? If there was ever an argument for increasing foreign aid, there must be one here surely.

loopylou Sun 19-Apr-15 20:34:40

Apparently the traffickers also phone the Italian coast guards to say the refugees are coming, as well as ensuring that the boats are as unseaworthy as possible so as not to waste resources-sick b.....ds

pompa Sun 19-Apr-15 20:34:11

I don't see any problem publishing it here, I won't to know what this vicious person I saying next.

durhamjen Sun 19-Apr-15 20:24:13

The article itself wasn't, Ana. However, I put the link on to politics.co.uk to show what other people think of it after Iam64 mentioned it.

Ana Sun 19-Apr-15 20:17:19

I don't know why the article was given publicity on here.

rosequartz Sun 19-Apr-15 20:10:21

Do people really read that paper?

I suppose they must or it would fold.

AshTree Sun 19-Apr-15 20:06:28

I don't really know what to say, these stories are so horrifying, so beyond human endurance.... and yet there will always be more willing to risk their lives.
It is so painful to consider just how unbearable their lives have become that they would be willing to give all they have to people traffickers, risk everything - their lives and their children's lives - in the desperate hope that they may reach a better life.
I don't even want to waste my breath on Katie Hopkins. That woman is vile and I would dearly love to see her forced to live in the squalid third world slums that crun has linked.

GillT57 Sun 19-Apr-15 20:00:50

Reports are that the poor souls are given some ( not enough) water and a compass and cast adrift towards Italy. This last tragedy, today was caused by a rush of people on the boat, all grabbing to get to rescue boat, this caused boat to over turn. Katie Hopkins doesnt even merit discussion, all publicity is oxygen to her, so I for one shall deprive her of it.

Mishap Sun 19-Apr-15 19:54:28

What a perfectly dreadful woman. Is there a case for the Press Complaints Commission to be involved? I am all for free speech, but this is truly beyond the pale.

Those poor poor people must be so desperate to take such a risk for themselves and for their children. Whatever the problems that a huge influx of migrants might cause in a host country, we cannot simply ignore their desperation.

rosequartz Sun 19-Apr-15 19:52:48

I read that the traffickers take their money, then give them just enough fuel to reach halfway. I don't know if that is true or not.
I also heard that Christians were thrown overboard by other people on board.

This is just horrendous.

Nelliemoser Sun 19-Apr-15 19:41:24

Fill in the asterisks to your own satisfaction. angry angry

Nelliemoser Sun 19-Apr-15 19:40:31

What a *** nasty B** that woman is.

crun Sun 19-Apr-15 18:55:14

"Some of our towns are festering sores, plagued by swarms of migrants"

Perhaps she should go and visit some of these.
