After the atrocities of WW11 Churchill was one of the instigators of the European convention (EC) and UK was one of the first signatories. Up until 1988 our only recourse was to go to the European court of HR, but the Labour government brought in the HRA in 1988 and so we now have recourse in British courts. HRA 1988 - contains the same rights as the EC.
Right to- Life No torture or be threatened to be treated in an inhumane or degrading way Free from slavery or forced labour Fair trial Not punished for something against the law respect for private and family life, home and correspondence freedom of thought and consience religion freedom of expression assembly and association marriage and family right not to be descrimated against in relation to EC education free election abolition of death penalty
Now can anyone persuade me why we should be thinking of abolishing this?
That's a bit of bright news this week durhamjen. I'm a Keir Starmer fan and like you, hope he gets to shadow Gove. Keir Starmer is intelligent, seems grounded and focussed on the rights of victims. Here'e hoping my assessment is correct.
Keir Starmer, the former DPP, is now Labour MP for Holborn and St Pancras. I hope he gets given the post of shadow to Gove. He should be able to run rings round him.
from having a brief look at chat forums there are a large number of them Male groups as well as women groups. Gransnet is but one of many
Oh dear, another example of stating the @*#*@ obvious.
But I would be careful of surfing chat rooms indiscriminately, you never know what you might land on! (Anybody remember the Yamaha site of Withany's sorry tale? )
I belong to Ravelry as well. I haven't looked much recently but I don't think they discussed the general election to a great extent on there. I wouldn't have thought most hobby forums would tbh
Ah I get it. You thought that gransnet was a very important chat forum. Have you seen how many others there are. If you put in any hobby for example, under the sun, and put chat forum after it, up one will pop.
I dont mind you asking me questions. I am what I appear to be on gransnet. I know quite a lot about some subjects, and not so much about others. I thought that was the same for most people in life, but perhaps not.
From having a brief look at chat forums on the internet, there are a large number of them, mainly hobby ones. Male groups as well as women groups. Gransnet is but one of many.
In the grand scheme of things, and bearing in mind all the left wing things that were talked about, and bearing in mind the result, well there is no more to say really.
If our human rights aren't eroded away it will be because it will prove impossible to actually come up with a legislative solution - good article in today's DT by a barrister - can't do link
