Terror attacks in France and Tunisia/now

What a scary time we live in.

One man beheaded this morning in France, now at least 19 people killed in attacks on 'possibly' 2 hotels in Sousse, Tunisia. That is what is being reported at the moment, they are believed to be tourists.

It must be terrifying for those on holiday being told to barricade themselves in their rooms.

Just awful.

I meant 'hundreds of years-old wrongs'. Surprising what a difference an 's' and a hyphen can make!

Anniebach Tue 30-Jun-15 09:53:54

The village idiots have their place in society jingle, well in decent , tolerant societies

jinglbellsfrocks Tue 30-Jun-15 09:57:05

Wrist well and truly wrapped. Sorry. I bad girl sometimes.

Anniebach Tue 30-Jun-15 10:06:21

Just heard a question on the radio. Why should Muslims march in protest against the violence in Tunisia when no one marches against air strikes in Iraq and Syria , innocent people are murdered by these too

trisher Tue 30-Jun-15 11:10:11

I wondered why we always refer to these as 'Muslim Terrorists' the IRA was a Catholic organisation but I never heard its members referred to as Catholic Terrorists nor was it expected that Catholics would march to show they condemned the actions of the IRA. Double standards or what?

petallus Tue 30-Jun-15 11:26:12

That's exactly the point I was trying to make Anniebach

jinglbellsfrocks Tue 30-Jun-15 12:14:48

rapped. Not wrapped. #ageingbrain

The air strikes in Syria and Iraq are aimed at ISIS whenever their columns of tanks try to move between towns. These air strikes are vital to protect people there against ISIS, so don't know what point you are making Anniebach.
marching and showing solidarity against ISIS as some of the Tunisian people are doing, is a good idea, and I wish British Muslims would do the same, it would go a long way towards feeling that moderate Muslims are just as horrified as any British people are by continuing atrocities. All it needs are placards carried 'against terrorism by ISIS'.It's not a matter of ' why should they have to' if they remain quiet about it for much longer, then a lot of people here will think they condone it.I think a certain section of them probably already do.That's why it's important for the rest to come out and say it.

Anniebach Tue 30-Jun-15 14:00:53

No one should expect another person to demonstrate publicly . As for people thinking Muslims who don't wave banners are supporting the terrorists is a placard going to change the views many have of Muslims? I think not , more likely the thought will be - they would say that wouldn't they

Anya Tue 30-Jun-15 14:04:44

Well put Roses

Anniebach you've obviously got an opinion on these terrorists. Can I ask what you think could be done by the global community to stop them, if indeed you think their ideology is flawed and dangerous?

TerriBull Tue 30-Jun-15 14:14:40

I'm not sure the IRA ever did anything in the name of Jesus Christ, it was more about the desire for a united Ireland free from occupation. Undoubtedly members of the IRA were born Catholic and as the indigenous people of Northern Ireland who were treated as 2nd class citizens, of course it was sectarian, but the main thrust wasn't really religious and it was never their intention to set up a Catholic state in Britain and the wider world and force that religion on non Catholics, as far as I'm aware.

POGS Tue 30-Jun-15 15:02:10

There are a lot of Somali /Sudanese immigrants in the UK.

Just look up Leicester communities for a starter.

POGS Tue 30-Jun-15 15:06:28

Please ignore last post I was on the wrong thread, no idea how that happened to be honest blush

Anniebach Tue 30-Jun-15 15:47:26

Anya, my opinion of these terrorists is the same as everyone else's . Where I seem to differ is on opinions of what innocent Muslims should or should not do, I think British Muslims are in a no win situation with many non Muslim British now, have been so for some time.

What can be done ? The global community working as one would help, stop arms dealing but this will not happen, people get rich in wars . What good have we done in Iraq and Afghanistan , in Syria? Also stop driving young people into Syria which we do with our years of nit picking the Muslim community . They must live in more fear than no Muslims, Muslims die in terrorist attacks too and they have the fear of the far right to cope with.

If governments don't know what to do why should I?

Do you believe if they did a protest march everyone would believe them ? I do not . The west has stirred a hornets nest .

Just think of the way the Americans ridiculed Saddham when they captured him ,it was vile, yes capture, arrest, charge, sentence , but not humiliate

I do not fear shari law taking over British law, I do not fear a Muslim run parliment. I do believe hate cannot win over hate

granjura Tue 30-Jun-15 16:12:53

S0metimes I feel like posting, "I wish the village idiot wouldn't keep popping up". But I won't.

I really do think this iw way out of order, again, Jingl.

Now I have to say, I often think the same ... but woulnd't dream of posting it (and we wouldn't think about the same person, perhaps).

Tegan Tue 30-Jun-15 16:12:54

I didn't, but I do now. There is an 'evil' in all of this that I just can't comprehend, and it goes beyond anything I can think of [the possible exception being the Nazis and the concentration camps sad].

soontobe Tue 30-Jun-15 16:48:35

Do you know the basics of Sharia law Anniebach?

soontobe Tue 30-Jun-15 16:51:36

[to save anyone guessing, I think that jingl was referring to me]
If it was, I will take it. If it wasnt, that stops other people wondering and being upset.

Anniebach Tue 30-Jun-15 16:51:52

Not all Soontobe, why?

Anniebach Tue 30-Jun-15 16:54:18

I wouldn't think of one person here as an idiot, just people with their own views and opinions which even if I don't agree I respect their right to voice them

grannyonce Tue 30-Jun-15 16:54:42

AB I do not fear sharia law taking over British law, I do not fear a Muslim run parliament (spelling corrected)
shock shock
I certainly do - we have hundreds of years of law that have created this country I love to live in hmm

soontobe Tue 30-Jun-15 16:58:35

It could have been all Anniebach. She may think that we are all idiots.

Anniebach Tue 30-Jun-15 16:59:34

grannyonce you really fear shari law will take over from British law? How can this happen?

soontobe Tue 30-Jun-15 17:00:19

Ah. I now realise that you are talking about my post of 16.48pm, not the 16.51pm post.

Anniebach Tue 30-Jun-15 17:01:59

If anyone thinks I am an adiot then they have a problem not me Soontobe , I have been called much more unkind things on boards over the years
