Terror attacks in France and Tunisia/now

What a scary time we live in.

One man beheaded this morning in France, now at least 19 people killed in attacks on 'possibly' 2 hotels in Sousse, Tunisia. That is what is being reported at the moment, they are believed to be tourists.

It must be terrifying for those on holiday being told to barricade themselves in their rooms.

Just awful.

I do not understand your comment, Ana.
There are people on the site who wanted to know about any marches. In fact they were suggesting them.
If you do not want to, that's okay.
I thought I was supposed to be the sarcastic one.

What's cloak and dagger about soon saying she would pm me? Quite the reverse, I would say.

Did anyone else watch the programme on BBC4 by Dan Cruickshank, about IS destroying the Iraqi relics and why?

If we bomb Iraq, we are doing IS job for them.

soontobe Tue 30-Jun-15 21:38:12

Sorry.

Ana Tue 30-Jun-15 21:35:17

Can't be doing with all this cloak-and-dagger stuff.

I'll leave you do it. hmm

Ana Tue 30-Jun-15 21:33:08

You don't have to advertise the fact soontobe. Just do it.

soontobe Tue 30-Jun-15 21:31:52

I need to pm you durhamjen.

Ana Tue 30-Jun-15 21:21:13

Well, according to some on here there is no problem at all - it's all the fault of the British and our colonial past and we should just put up with it!

"#Walktogether is a new initiative supported by Faiths Forum for London, Hope Not Hate, Islamic Society of Britain, Faith Matters, Trust for London, The Big Iftar, British Humanist Association, St John Ambulance, New Horizons in British Islam, City Sikhs, Inspire, JW3 Jewish Community Centre London, Armed Forces Muslim Forum and British Future.

The decade that has followed has been an anxious one for Britain. But none of us wants fear and hate to win.

The power of #WalkTogether will come from people all over Britain taking part. You can walk at any time of day, wherever you are, with friends and colleagues or on your own. Please show your support by sharing a picture of your walk using the #WalkTogether hashtag.

If you are interested in walking with other likeminded people then sign up here and we will put you in touch"

Anybody interested in this?

Teachers have to do their best. It isnt going to be perfect.

I am always of the opinion, that if there is a serious problem, then serious measures are needed.
Why complain about a problem, if you are not prepared to help solve it. What is the point?

I am quite concerned actually.
If we are not prepared to tackle it in our own back yard then what is going to happen?

This does not bode well at all.

I have a couple of times bumped a thread about twitter alerting potential terrorists to being watched, but hardly anyone appeared to think that that was inappropriate.

This problem is not going to go away anytime soon. Especially if British citizens are not prepared to deal with the situation.

Shacria Law is practiced in the UK isn't it?

petra Tue 30-Jun-15 20:55:20

Would that be the same teachers that separate the boys from the girls in some schools? Or don't notice when young girls go missing for long periods of time, ie being sent abroad to be married or FGM.
OH yes, I can see that working.

Jane10 Tue 30-Jun-15 20:51:06

Its all our jobs to be alert to the possibility of children we know becoming radicalised. We are the new 'home front' in this unfortunate situation. We have lots to learn here. There's a lot at stake. I'm glad the govt is taking it seriously. Re this law -its not perfect but its a start and we have to start somewhere.

"I presume that it is if they have suspicions, that they tell someone. Rather than speak directly to the pupil."

Do you think that sort of thing is going to lead to good relations between teachers and pupils, soontobe?

durhamjen Tue 30-Jun-15 20:41:32

The law comes in tomorrow, soon. Not much time for training.

soontobe Tue 30-Jun-15 20:40:16

Good point Anniebach.

I think that as with a lot of things, there are fors and against. [not sure that is the exact expression].

I hope they get good training.
I presume that it is if they have suspicions, that they tell someone. Rather than speak directly to the pupil.

Why am I glad?
If parents dont notice, if friends either dont notice, or are too scared to tell anyone, that only leaves teachers.

Anniebach Tue 30-Jun-15 20:26:37

Perhaps some children will be afraid to voice their fears or hopes, ask questions for fear of being reported to police, social services etc, and it will break trust which children is so important to children

Ana Tue 30-Jun-15 20:25:16

Why are you glad it's becoming the law, soontobe?

durhamjen Tue 30-Jun-15 20:22:23

It will be difficult for teachers, if not impossible, soon. They have enough to do at the moment.

soontobe Tue 30-Jun-15 20:18:24

Good, re teachers.
The teacher I saw on the news[dont know which news channel, I watch different ones], said that teachers were not spies, so she was against doing it. Glad it is becoming the law.

soontobe Tue 30-Jun-15 20:14:03

I read your link durhamjen. For what it is worth, I think that you respect me for now, so I will read your links [well, most of them!].

Ana Tue 30-Jun-15 20:02:19

I'm quite surprised that the rise of ISIS hasn't been blamed on 'this government', actually...although I'm sure someone will come up with a link 'proving' just that!

durhamjen Tue 30-Jun-15 20:02:10

Teachers have to spot radicalised children from tomorrow.

Petra, I could quote Christian scriptures which say the opposite ,

Ana Tue 30-Jun-15 19:57:43

I agree, roses, as I've said before.

rosesarered Tue 30-Jun-15 19:54:21

I think that most of us on this thread are more concerned with the British victims killed brutally by Muslim extremists, than the sensibilities of British muslims, who actually enjoy a good standard of life here.I am tired of hearing about ' how we must have driven young men and women to join ISIS' on this forum, it's total tosh.
