Brilliant article here saying why the Daily Record backs Corbyn.

I find it quite funny that over 1500 candidates lost their deposits.
The Treasury gains a lot from elections.

Labour only got the vote of 22% of the electorate in 2005.

And none of the other parties whinged or complained about it because that's how our democratic voting system works.

Do stop going on as though 'this government' is trying to govern with the smallest majority ever known to mankind...

True Gracesgran , for me hearing a politician - Corbyn on radio today - asking voters to vote for others was a breath of fresh air after years of politicians asking voters to vote for self . So much harm done since thatcher brought greed is good to the voter

In my opinion the more important statistic is not the percentage of votes the Conservatives got in the last election but the percentage of the electorate - it was 24% - that they got. The current government of the whole of our nation was voted in by a quarter of the population.

It is a huge assumption that Jeremy Corbyn could not win an election when we have no idea what the non voting population want. With about 35% of the population - it is a similar figure both in the UK and in England - not voting in the last election, who knows what a voter registration type drive could achieve. With view that have not been offered for decades, who knows how many people would be attracted back to vote Labour.

No one can be kept out of a cabinet , MP's can be chosen for an appointment in cabinet, MP's can be removed from cabinet , MP 's cannot be kept out of cabinet , quite simple really

As to why Labour lost the last election, a mixture of things, but surely the biggest reason was the loss of ?40 seats in Scotland. I honestly don't know how those can ever be regained.
And a lot of the floating votes going to UKIP.

Corbyn has been around Jane, for quite a while, but they managed to keep him out of the Cabinet up to now.

So, 35.2% in 2005 for Labour, well, I didn't moan about that and neither did anyone else.

Corbyn just seems like a breath of fresh air. I might not like his policies but he seems like a decent man of integrity. If I was a socialist I'd vote for him. I don't think he'll lead his party to victory but I'd like him to be around.

Nope DJen, I certainly wouldn't be moaning about percentages if Labour had won the GE, nor I suspect would anyone else on here, in fact Until reading posts( from left wing voters)on here after the last GE, moaning about it and using it as an excuse as to why Labour lost, I had never really thought much about it, as one Party wins and that's it, it doesn't matter if the majority is slim or wide, they are then in power.One side has to get a majority, and that fact has to be accepted.
As to the Green party...... Well, let's face it, they live in cloud cuckoo land.

I am struggling not to get too involved with this, but really, a majority is a majority?? When the constituencies have been and are going to be manipulated in the not too distant future to ensure one party wins rather than another? Fairness, justice? But then those don't seem to be British values anymore from what I see in so many comments columns of online newspapers.

By the same logic, we should approve of doping in sport....a win is a win, never mind the means!

But Cameron is trying to get through boundary changes which will benefit his party. He is having discussions in private with those of his party who will lose their constituency and trying to reassure them that they will be voted in somewhere else.

Hopefully he will not be able to get those through.

I liked the article by Monbiot, and he listed all the reasons that Labour do not like Blairites.

What Monbiot did say is that none of the others is likely to win in 2020 any more than Corbyn. Corbyn is truthful. That's why people like him.

I expect I won't be the only one to post this, but on a turnout of only 66% (the fourth lowest since 1918), the Tories were elected with 36.9% of the vote. Hardly 'most of us' who voted for them.

I voted Green and feel that the Green and other minority parties suffer badly with our voting system. As it is, the Tories have only a slim majority and as Cameron is finding to his cost, that isn't enough to push through some very dodgy pieces of legislation.

Let's not get back into that again! The percentages game, when we all know that's how it works, The Conservatives got in with the larger majority, sometimes Labour get in with much the same majority and percentage.
