This pitiful excuse for a human being

I expect many of you will have read about the man who shot a lion with a crossbow and tracked the poor dying animal for many hours before finally shooting it dead. What kind of a person derives pleasure from such cruelty and wanton destruction? I truly hope this man is tried for what he has done and that his dental practice goes bust.

That man apparently shot the lion illegally but I also think it is wrong that people can purchase licences to hunt and shoot these animals. It seems to send out the message that if you've got enough money you can do whatever you like, however cruel and disgusting.

Yes half a million signatures to attempt to influence SAA policy is not bad, I agree.

durhamjen Sun 09-Aug-15 16:27:29

Yes, sorry, it's this one that had nearly a million on my last email from them, but now has another quarter of a million. It only started on 29th July.

However, half a million to stop SAA from shipping animal trophies is not bad, is it?

Grannyknot Sun 09-Aug-15 16:13:14

dj that's incorrect? (the nearly a million). The petition page indicates that 500,997 have signed.

I watched a Natural World programme last night about Mountain Lions. Their numbers are declining, partly because of the reintroduction of wolves, which kill their young but also because [you guessed it] so many are shot in the hunting season. As with bears, wearing a radio collar does not protect them from hunters even though it's obvious they are part of a study group. I do often think back to the Von Daniken [sp] book and wonder if we do actually belong to this planet as we're the only creatures on it that don't respect it sad and seem to do more harm than good.

I agree Deedaa that it will do this man some good to feel in the position of the hunted for a change. I very much doubt anyone will kill him but letting him feel the fear isn't a bad thing.

etheltbags1 Sat 01-Aug-15 22:22:31

At least Im not making death threats, that would be too good for him. Let him spend the rest of his life ruminating on what he has done.

Penstemmon Sat 01-Aug-15 22:10:25

ethelbags I did not like the killing of the lion either but really feel wishing the imbecile who killed him to a life of dire poverty or worse is a bit OTT. I would suggest that he is fined an equivalent sum of money that he paid to kill the animals and that it is given directly to the reserve that the lion was lured from or similar place to carry on their conservation. Maybe he should also do some restorative justice and do some work with lions to try and learn to appreciate their beauty and value.

etheltbags1 Sat 01-Aug-15 22:03:15

I am disgusted with this man, I hope he never works again and ends up living in poverty with time to think about what he has done hes a bastard and I hope gnet do not remove my post because of the b word, I don't use it much but I feel justified for this.

Deedaa Sat 01-Aug-15 22:02:28

There are so many terrible things in the world, think of that poor baby in Israel burnt to death or the would be immigrants in Calais whose families have spent every penny to buy them freedom and it's all going to be for nothing and on and on and on. It makes it seem so much worse that there are people who go out to cause pain and death just for fun.

I hope nobody does kill this man, but I don't mind him thinking they might.

Tegan Sat 01-Aug-15 21:44:48

'I don't think repaying one form of savagery with another is really the answer. I don't agree with the man being in fear of his life. If we go down that route, we're as barbaric as he is'.
Disgusted as I am by this brutal killng, I totally agree with Eloethans comment.

Penstemmon Sat 01-Aug-15 20:50:45

I understand that soon but in this case (Cecil) and in cases where people hate other people irrationally ( e.g. colour/creed/race/sexual orientation) often they have no personal experience of the people /animal they hate!

soontobe Sat 01-Aug-15 20:46:03

In their eyes, a cat or dog or pet does not harm them emotionally like humans have already done to them. That is why they prefer their pets.

Penstemmon Sat 01-Aug-15 20:37:43

Well a lion might given half a chance!
Some humans, that other humans dislike, don't harm anyone either but it does not stop people stirring up hatred and difficulty for them.

Bellanonna Sat 01-Aug-15 20:36:23

Animals don't hurt humans soon? They certainly can

soontobe Sat 01-Aug-15 20:28:26

Some people value animals more than humans.
One reason given is becuase animals dont hurt them.

Penstemmon Sat 01-Aug-15 20:13:25

I think once one begins to behave in a way that devalues a life, lion or man, and sees oneself and more valuable/valued than another living creature, human or otherwise it is a downward spiral for us all. We feel bad for this lion, lured to its death by someone who gets some pleasure from harming it. We don't appear to get as angry when we see an African child dying or do we?

Do you think we have got so angry about it because we see it as a slippery slope ..if you can kill a beautiful animal could you kill a person that does not fit your image of 'someone like me' ?

I do not know the answers, I am just asking.

rosesarered Sat 01-Aug-15 20:03:57

I agree Eloethan.

Eloethan Sat 01-Aug-15 19:53:09

I don't think repaying one form of savagery with another is really the answer. I don't agree with the man being in fear of his life. If we go down that route, we're as barbaric as he is.

If this lowlife has any patients left, I hope the next one in whose mouth he has his fingers, bites down very very hard to the bone.

Elrel Sat 01-Aug-15 15:39:41

Thanks Auntbett and Blinko - that was my thought too as picture after picture of this 'hero' beside the animals he had despatched as a holiday activity emerged.

EmilyHarburn Sat 01-Aug-15 11:45:32

Loved HildaW's post about her trip and her feelings on gazing at the elephant's eyes. Helpful set of posts to realise how complex the tourist market is. However the only 'shots' allowed should be camera shots. Collections of trophies should have finished by 1950 if not before. Hopefully the lion will not have died in vain and regulations will be tightened up. However this does bring back for the UK the issues of fox hunting, grouse and pheasant shooting. This is not an area I give much thought as my thinking is taken up with down sizing(to do nor not to do, how to do etc), decluttering, paying for care in old age etc. All a bit self centred. And jobs for school and college leavers.
