How does this woman make you feel?

I've heard some excuses for reading the DM, vampire, but that's a good one

I read the DM because I have to keep up with the racist/sexist/anyist stories my mum reads and believes so I can hopefully disabuse her of these beliefs each weekend.

I think anyone who believes what they read in the DM has many more problems than this women, who appears to be doing what she believes is her best for her children. Obviously as a large part (not you of course, if you happen to read it ) of the readership of the DM comes from the severely judgemental they will enjoy being judgemental about someone else's life ...

The grandsons 12 and 8 are out cycling with Dad , the eldest has his sister 3 , in a trailer , the go so far and drop into the café for ice-cream and the wee one has a run about , they walk to school but given half a chance they are doing lego or drawing with the TV blaring beside them . They are perfectly healthy . The granddaughters are into swimming and cycling , even the 3yrold can go like crazy on her 2 wheeler , but , again given half a chance they are slumped on the floor painting reading or just messing , maybe the thing is to offer the chance of exercise and rest and balance things out . Children need a breathing space to dream and use their imagination and jus think thinks out for themselves

I'd like to be able to see into the future and what the kids will be like when they are 16 or 18. Students partying, living on pizza and take-away and cutting lectures because they can't be bothered to get off the couch I suspect. The trouble with extremes is that there is always a swing of the pendulum to the other side. She has experienced this, what a pity she hasn't learned from it.

And brushing their hair wouldn't come amiss once in a while.

I think they'll all have worn out joints and an allergy to Lycra

She seems a sad woman, a meme, they think they have all the answers, all their choices and decisions are always the right ones , a meme has perfect children, perfect lifestyle, everything they do and say is right, anyone who chooses a different lifestyle is wrong for a meme , they live in meme world

I have to admit to feeling a bit 'disapproving' when I see a child of about 4 or older still being pushed around in a buggy, but I expect it's down to convenience for the parent.

My DD ditched the double buggy for her twins as soon as they could walk a reasonable distance under their own steam because it was so much hassle getting the contraption in and out of a car or bus.

GS2 has rarely been in a buggy since he was 2 and his brother was the same. They both walked early and there seemed no point using a buggy if they were perfectly capable of walking.

DD used to swim 60 lengths before work before she had the children but has never felt the need to appear in public in Lycra since she retired from gymnastics

Well, a 4 year old is not going to walk 13 miles in two hours - at least not any 4 year old I have ever come into contact with. So it is all a load of tosh; I have just spent today with two grandchildren who have been on the go non-stop for hours (and all holiday so far!), without doing a route march.

I notice she is 53 and her youngest is 4 - I thought I was getting on a bit having a baby at 37 - but of course that is considered young these days.

And as for her refusing to speak to anyone at the school gate who isn't wearing lycra or running gear

Isn't that an "ism"? Also, there may be people at the school gate wearing lycra who take no exercise at all!

So now we are back to being judged by what we wear? What about someone who may have done a five mile run earlier, but shower and change and then go to collect their children wearing a summer skirt and top?

I think the answer to that statement should have been "Oh! When was that?"

My initial reaction is to say I don't believe it. I'm sure they do some exercise but she's one of those irritating journalists who specialise in making money by exploiting/writing about her children.

Actually, in the article it says her regime "includes" 13-mile walks, not that they have to do that every day. I expect they've done one or two walks that long. It's a long way for a four year old.

Love to know what they're like in ten years' time, and twenty.

13 miles a day! Talk about going from one extreme to the other. Of course, getting out in the fresh air, running, cycling, walking, climbing trees, paddling in streams, flying kites, etc., etc., is great for children. But there's a happy medium.

I'm inclined to think this woman is either exaggerating because she wants to get herself in the papers or she's got OCD.

As for the children "looking happy". Photographs do not always tell the truth.

Can't help wondering how her children may rebel when they're teenagers. I'm all in favour of exercise and a healthy lifestyle, but this seems far too extreme.
