Labour Leadership watch

I thought, as the message says "start a new thread" that I should.

A quote from an article by Jeremy Corby to start this thread off.

"Ours is a democratic socialist party. Nearly 300,000 people now have that on the back of their Labour Party membership card. Our members and supporters have ideas, experience and knowledge that are a valuable resource - and none more so than our local councillors; often, the most innovative ideas are delivered in local government. Shadow minister and policy advisers do not have a monopoly on wisdom, so the must interact with party members and supporters. By making policy together, we make better policy"

and a little further on ...

"I stood in this campaign to open up a debate, to engage new people and to rebuild our party as the movement it needs to be. That is not just an approach for the leadership election but one to win in 2020."

You have much to be proud of Anniebach, me too. We both come from a long line of strong people, strong communities, and heroes. It's not a case of being hate filled, or living in the past, but of remembering for their sake and not allowing the truth to be overwritten as it was at the time flowers

Anniebach Fri 28-Aug-15 12:45:11

That's it nightowl ,I speak out not in hate but pride and defence of the bravest of people ,thank you

Anniebach Fri 28-Aug-15 12:51:40

Yes rosesarered , my home was Aberfan, my family worked in the village pit, we have deep scars, it will take more than two generations to free the scars of injustice, those children died because of neglect

Very profitable discussions, from both sides of the political fence, putting forward genuinely held views without getting personal.

I had an email today from the Labour party saying that I can vote online and giving the link. Even though I'm in France.

They've taken my subscription from our french account.
As I mentioned before though, we're still eligible to vote in a general election. (Up to 15 years out of the country)

Gracesgran Fri 28-Aug-15 20:38:45

That's great Tricia.

For those who believe that making fun of the way Labour Party MPs dress will win friends and influence politics it may be worth reading Bridget Christie's article in the Guardian Weekend.

After watching an 1984 Newsnight interview of Jeremy Corbyn which she initially compares to the Jeremy Paxman interview with Michael Howard (beautifully brought back to mind) when, asked a question 14 times, failed to give a simple yes or no answer, she describes the Corbyn interview and then says that this produced her own Jeremy Corbyn moment when she "understood how this principled, unassuming 66-year-old man had captured the hearts of so many young people and disheartened Labour voters."

It is a delightful article and a brilliant description of Corbyn "Corbyn is that rare thing: a politician who speaks like a human being. He doesn’t sound like a robot, wearing a latex human costume, doing an impression of a real person; he sounds like us. His sentences aren’t littered with cliches and meaningless slogans. He gives straight answers."

Do read all you who find donkey jackets funny while people starve, and then accuse those of us who worry about the people as having no sense of humour - as if humour at a car crash or similar would be appropriate - not only does it have a point but it is delightfully written too.

Good isn't he? Love the lack of self awareness and honesty. Please, please don't let the media trash him!

See Rebecca Brooks has been given her old job back, even though she was shown to be utterly incompetent at her job. Wonder how News UK will treat Corbyn. She has some debts to settle.

whitewave Sat 29-Aug-15 10:22:33

Personally I think the rest of the Labour Party have totally misjudged the Zeitgeist.

Gracesgran Sat 29-Aug-15 10:28:22

Me too whitewave

Ironically, or maybe not, the traits that are being admired by potential voters of Jeremy Corbyn, are some of the same ones that are attracting potential voters of Donald Trump.
There are many similarities.

annodomini Sat 29-Aug-15 11:15:21

What? soon, please elucidate. I doubt if either Corbyn or Trump would appreciate the comparison. confused

whitewave Sat 29-Aug-15 11:21:50

Blimey soon that is stretching the imagination somewhatgrin

This sums it up rather well.
Except Trump is not a politician.

People in the USA are saying that Trump is their mouthpiece.

Jeremy Corbyn has defied the whip 50 times or whatever. I cant see Trump going along with others either.

soontobe Sat 29-Aug-15 11:32:52

People in the USA are equally or more fed up with their soundbite politicians than/as we are.

They find Donald Trump exciting, as some in the UK find Jeremy Corby exciting.

soontobe Sat 29-Aug-15 11:35:08

Both are somewhat on the extreme end of their politics. Both believe what they are saying, and are not afraid to say it.

petra Sat 29-Aug-15 12:30:40

I'm getting worried now. I've understood a post by, Soontobe.

rosesarered Sat 29-Aug-15 12:42:39

I remember exactly the same was said about Nigel Farage the other year.

Eloethan Sat 29-Aug-15 12:45:09

Whatever happened to Nigel Farage?

rosesarered Sat 29-Aug-15 12:46:23

Dunno, hope the same won't happen to JC eh?

whitewave Sat 29-Aug-15 12:46:42

He is still around.sad

durhamjen Sat 29-Aug-15 16:49:09

Was that the same interviewer who asked him about his hobbies and he said he had an allotment and made his own jam from the fruit. He offered her a jar.
How many of you WI voters are going to vote for him now?

I'm worried about soon. She seems to have a thing for Trump.

Ana Sat 29-Aug-15 16:51:13

Why would you vote for someone just because he had an allotment and made his own jam? Even if you were a member of the WI...

POGS Sat 29-Aug-15 17:08:41

The allotment plot thickens.

Corbyn is no fan of the E U , more than can be said of some who are backing him now confused

Perhaps he could sort out if jam can be called jam or if it is health and safety to sell it in the first place. Doesn't the EU want it called preserve or some such silly nonsense, CBA to research it.
