Future of Monarchies in the 21st Century

Rosesarered was kind enough to suggest my earlier post should be a thread of its own so here goes. I have copied below my previous post from the National Anthem Debate for comments.
Perhaps, whitewave, the real question that should be put is:
If the hereditary monarchy did not already exist in UK would you vote for one to be created today?
How would that royal family be chosen?
Every family's name dropped into a big drum and one picked or the strongest warring faction wins?
And the one lucky winner gets all - big houses, job for life, jobs for life for their kids for all time etc.

Hobnobbed ?

rosequartz Sat 19-Sept-15 21:02:15

No chance! grin

Ana Sat 19-Sept-15 21:01:27

grin I did realise the ambiguity of my post too late, but hoped no one would point it out!

rosequartz Sat 19-Sept-15 21:00:13

Who? Princess Anne hobnobbed with Michael Foot? shock
Why didn't I read about that in the gutter press?

Is the jacket a bit like the blue dress?

Ana Sat 19-Sept-15 20:53:50

How can Anniebach be Princess Anne when she hob-nobbed with Michael Foot in her younger days? And even knows the truth about that jacket...wink

whitewave Sat 19-Sept-15 20:50:29

Oh Annie if you are P Anne you will have met my nephew, and be aware that he didn't have a clue who you were!!!

rosequartz Sat 19-Sept-15 20:47:48

I promise not to say a word wink

Anniebach Sat 19-Sept-15 20:46:24

alright rosequartz, I promise I will not tell you grin

rosequartz Sat 19-Sept-15 20:24:47

roses
I have heard it numerous times, but then gossip will go round in circles.

rosequartz Sat 19-Sept-15 20:23:05

shock
Don't tell me you're Princess Anne?

That's OK, she's quite feisty!
AND she's a Granny!

rosesarered Sat 19-Sept-15 20:23:01

Not pleasant at all, and I have certainly never read or heard of any such thing, regarding the Queen( and think it would be well nigh impossible to keep any such thing totally under wraps) so don't believe a word of this.

Anniebach Sat 19-Sept-15 20:20:15

rosequartz , I couldn't possible comment wink

rosequartz Sat 19-Sept-15 20:18:43

thought not though

rosequartz Sat 19-Sept-15 20:18:09

Anniebach You're the fount of all knowledge where the Royal Family is concerned

merlot !

anniebach do you know so much because you're a member of the Royal Family yourself but keep it hidden for fear of being though elitist grin
The Tudors were Welshhmm

Ana Sat 19-Sept-15 20:12:55

Yes of course, it's not against the libel laws to drop hints and imply that you are someone 'in the know' about certain things, but can say no more. Not very pleasant, though.

Anniebach Sat 19-Sept-15 20:05:06

I agree POGS, as does the law

POGS Sat 19-Sept-15 19:31:57

Very true Anniebach.

However 'thinking' something is best left in your head if you are making up accusations of an unkind nature if you cannot substantiate them.

At least that's how I choose to think, as you correctly say you may think otherwise.

feetlebaum Sat 19-Sept-15 19:18:46

We did all that before.... got rid of the monarchy. Fairly decisively too, with a bloody great axe... and then we decided we didn't like it after all, and brought the monarchy back. So that's been tried - let's not go through it all again.

Anniebach Sat 19-Sept-15 18:18:33

POGS, you are free to think as you choose, as am I

There's always this load of old bollocks bit of gossip if you want a good laugh.

POGS Sat 19-Sept-15 17:51:05

Anniebach

I don't think you have any knowledge of any 'alleged affair/affairs' the Queen may or may not have had.

You would find a way of divulging your information .

Or was it said to you by one of those you mention on another thread as being in your company and who have obviously at one time or another had close connections to Westminster maybe?

nigglynellie Sat 19-Sept-15 15:23:50

No, not one!

Anniebach Sat 19-Sept-15 15:15:17

And I can't spell whisper

Anniebach Sat 19-Sept-15 15:13:30

Never been a wisper ?

nigglynellie Sat 19-Sept-15 15:00:41

Princess Margaret never seemed a lady at peace with herself,, and yes, she did have affairs, so I guess that's who's being talked about.
