Just been watching JC on Andrew Marr's programme. I really can't make up my mind about that man. Having lived through and suffered from, a left wing Labour government I really don't want to see another one.
Most of his supporters are young and I understand this. When I was 17 I wore a red enamelled badge on which was a golden hammer and sickle. In those days communism sounded wonderful. Needless to say when I began to discover what it was really like living in the USSR I changed my mind.
What is that saying? 'If you're not a Socialist when young, you're hard in the heart. If you're still a Socialist when adult, you're soft in the head.'
If everyone were a Socialist it would be an ideal world but very few of us are unselfish enough so it doesn't work. However, young people tend to be soft hearted and would be attracted by JC's rhetoric.
Have you noticed though that he isn't quite as adamant as he was about the changes he wants to make? He has in effect a coalition Shadow Cabinet. If he is forced to relinquish some of his extreme plans, will the young forgive him?
