As jinglbellsfrocks had the last word in the last thread about Jermy Corbyn, I am starting a new one.

Do you think that the election of Jeremy Corbyn has scuppered Labour's chances of winning the next election or has it revitalised the party?

Exactly RQ, and overtime pay/ protecting mates doesn't often come into it.DSIL just gets his orders to attend, officers picked out by his Sergeant to be on the duty roster.

rosesarered Sat 03-Oct-15 17:13:04

The only one who seems above criticism on here is Corbyn!

rosequartz Sat 03-Oct-15 17:11:27

If police do not look forward to these demonstrations why do so many offer to do overtime and turn up for them ? to protect their mates or for the extra pay

FFS I don't normally swear, but really!

Because their job is to uphold the law, protect the public from some of the extremists and anarchists who infiltrate these demonstrations organised by perhaps well-meaning people.

The reason they are in Manchester is because that is where the Tories are, and they are the ones who can stop the war, not Labour, as the Tories are in power.
So you think that 'The Tories' can pop over to Russia, smile at President Putin and ask him nicely to stop the war if they say please?
You think 'The Tories' can pop over to Syria, smile nicely at all the different factions, get them in a room to shake hands and promise to stop killing each other.
This is not a kindergarten fight.

The land of the Cloud Cuckoos comes to mind with some of the thinking on here.

Just what I did expect jingle, they seem above criticism , they say sorry and all is well again, not for the dead though

nigglynellie Sat 03-Oct-15 17:03:41

No, Russia has bombed Syrian civilians indiscriminately in areas where IS are not active. Putin has said that everyone who opposes Assad is a terrorist and has to be illuminated. Can't believe you missed this dj. Not a lot of hope for democracy, but plenty for the restoration of Assad

No idea what you are on about Elegran, that you read a word and for you it implies something doesn't make it true ,just what you choose to think

Exactly what I saying.
Elegran grin

durhamjen Sat 03-Oct-15 16:59:18

Dennis Healey said he would never press the button. What did that do to him?

rosequartz Sat 03-Oct-15 16:57:52

Jeremy Corbyn sounds a very sweet old man if I'm honest

Well, sweet is not exactly the adjective I would choose jingls. But certainly he is the more acceptable face of all the nastiness that is building up behind him on the Left.

durhamjen Sat 03-Oct-15 16:56:53

Has Russia bombed a hospital in Afghanistan? I must have missed that.

rosequartz Sat 03-Oct-15 16:55:12

Rosequartz , you failed to notice I asked a question , there was a?

No, I didn't fail to note that anniebach

whitewave Sat 03-Oct-15 16:48:27

Yes jing I think you are right. Either way he could not of won, but at least he stayed faithful to his lifelong beliefs.

jinglbellsfrocks Sat 03-Oct-15 16:45:50

Don't be stupid ab. What else would you expect?

jinglbellsfrocks Sat 03-Oct-15 16:44:07

Can anyone on here say they would push that button? Even in retaliation? I hope not. He should never have been asked that question. We need Trident as a deterrent. Whether we would ever use it should be kept to ourselves.

Anniebach Sat 03-Oct-15 16:44:06

All better now, America has said sorry

jinglbellsfrocks Sat 03-Oct-15 16:40:27

Jeremy Corbyn sounds a very sweet old man if I'm honest. But I don't he will survive in today's politics.

jinglbellsfrocks Sat 03-Oct-15 16:38:41

Of course it's devastating that this has happened, and I bet the US are as on the floor about it as anyone. hmm

nigglynellie Sat 03-Oct-15 16:33:41

I think you know perfectly well what I mean! I note no criticism of Russia!

durhamjen Sat 03-Oct-15 16:22:47

On that basis America can just forget about the fact that they have just bombed a hospital in Afghanistan, can they?
It's happened, it's over, let's move on.
How ridiculous.

Anniebach Sat 03-Oct-15 16:21:55

If we can celebrate past glories what is wrong with decrying past injustices

durhamjen Sat 03-Oct-15 16:20:41

Of course we have to get indignant about Britain. We're British!

nigglynellie Sat 03-Oct-15 15:45:39

A bit of both I daresay!!! Incidentally, although there have undoubtedly been awful incidents committed by Britain, other nations in the world have done equally if not worse injustices to other people/countries, but it's always Britain we have to indignantly hear about as if we were the only ones! If we're such an intolerable country a) why are a good proportion of the world desperate to live here and b) Why do people who clearly dislike this island and everything about it, go on living here? Surely it would be more sensible to go somewhere more convivial, with a more acceptable history. We can do absolutely nothing about the past, so going on about it in order to pull ourselves down is just pointless. It happened, it was disgraceful, but we can't alter it, so why go on about it?!

whitewave Sat 03-Oct-15 15:41:56

Just heard today that 3 more of my friends have become Labour members, all oaps so it isn't just the young joining up.

Anniebach Sat 03-Oct-15 15:28:42

The officer who killed Mr Tomlinson had previously been thrown out of the Met because he couldn't control what they choose to call 'his red rage' he moved to another force - no matter he had been dismissed - after a while he rejoined the Met

If police do not look forward to these demonstrations why do so many offer to do overtime and turn up for them ? to protect their mates or for the extra pay

Anniebach Sat 03-Oct-15 15:22:02

Jen,I so respect John Pilger ,it was his award winning documentary which exposed the disgraceful treatment of the people Diego Garcia and other islands , the British government forced them out of their homes and off their island to live in slums in Mauritius so the Island could be handed over to America to use as an airbase , it was called 'Stealing A Nation '
