Headline in the DM today.
Now, with gangs of men roaming the streets and young German women being told to cover up, the moods changing.
But that's ok, don't you change, we will adapt to your culture.

I must be a soothsayer, I was saying this would happen weeks ago.
Must buy a lottery ticket.

Did some of you not hear that about the RAF chap? For their sake, in that A&E dept. it was a blessing that I wasn't there. You have no idea how angry I am. And the powers that be wonder how/why far right organisations rise in popularity.

merlotgran Sat 26-Sept-15 19:57:02

Military personnel no longer wear uniform when out and about for their own security so the hospital would have saved themselved a lot of criticism if they'd used that as the reason for asking him to move out of the main A&E waiting room.

rosesarered Sat 26-Sept-15 19:53:27

Speechless!

merlotgran Sat 26-Sept-15 19:52:02

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3249717/Hospital-told-RAF-sergeant-leave-waiting-room-case-uniform-upset-patients.html

And before anyone starts banging on about the DM I heard it on the breakfast news this morning.

rosesarered Sat 26-Sept-15 19:45:36

Can this really be true, Greyduster? If so it is quite unbelievable! If I had been that man in uniform I would not have ' gone gently into that...' Etc

Greyduster Sat 26-Sept-15 19:40:51

We do pander to people of other cultures too much. I was disgusted to hear this morning that a member of the RAF attending A&E in uniform was asked to move out of sight of other patients in the waiting room because "people of other cultures use the area and might be offended"! The hospital has since apologised. I have to say this. Whose bloody country is it?

Ana Sat 26-Sept-15 19:40:05

Yes, as we're such a crime-ridden nation anyway a hefty dollop of more won't matter...it would be churlish to even mention the possibility hmm

Jane10 Sat 26-Sept-15 19:34:39

That's fine then Annie. Obviously there's nothing to fear from these hundreds of thousands of young muslim men. Note to self-must get grip. Wish there was an irony emoticon!

Anniebach Sat 26-Sept-15 19:16:26

The Daily Mail did not put the murderers of Stephen Lawrence behind bars , the parents of Stephen did and they were able to start the fight with support of the Unions, I was at the conference when Mr Lawrence came to make a speech expressing their gratitude the mail did print photographs of the ones found not guilty and branded them murderers , this was a rare front page of honour and truth from that paper

merlotgran Sat 26-Sept-15 19:04:00

No country is crime free so why would anyone think we are. hmm

Anniebach Sat 26-Sept-15 18:58:49

I don't consider speaking of sexual attacks or domestic abuse in this country is trying to minimise any problems, just saying we have problems too but some think we are so crime free

rosequartz Sat 26-Sept-15 18:51:54

So rapes are happening in Calais
Annie I can't think you meant your post to come over as it sounds
sad

rosequartz Sat 26-Sept-15 18:50:27

Our Hindu neighbours did not get on with our Muslim neighbours, whether that was personal, cultural, religious or what I don't know and didn't ask.
We got on with both lots very well.
All were lovely people.

rosequartz Sat 26-Sept-15 18:48:43

if I wanted a right wing paper I would have tbought the telegraph was preferable it is probably, but my arms are not long enough.

Whatever is left on the stand in Waitrose if I go there.

Just pointing out there is good and bad in everything.

Jane10 Sat 26-Sept-15 18:44:38

Annie why are you trying to minimise these problems?

Luckygirl Sat 26-Sept-15 18:34:24

A mixing of cultures and religions is always going to be a challenge. The sheer volume of refugees is in itself a problem. I do not know what the answer is - there will always be people who wish to exploit others' generosity, but I believe they are in the minority. What is needed is a co-ordinated international response (sadly lacking at the moment) so that those in genuine need are helped and given guidance on the culture into which they are moving. The help of those muslems who are already integrated in western countries should be sought.

Anniebach Sat 26-Sept-15 18:33:36

So rapes are happening in Calais, four British girls endured sexual attacks last week in one city in this country . Three women are killed by domestic abuse in this country weekly , this is not paradise

harrigran Sat 26-Sept-15 18:27:47

The things I feared are actually being reported, it has always been a worry to me that so many young men are being forced to live in close proximity.
If refugees want to live in another country they are going to have to accept a way of life that is different to their culture. The majority should not have to change to placate the minority.

petra Sat 26-Sept-15 18:18:30

Whitewave. No more unpleasant than what these victims are going through.
Are these stories bursting a few bubbles Re these poor homeless men looking for a new life.
Roses: totally agree Re the Hindu people.

rosesarered Sat 26-Sept-15 17:52:26

I don't think anything is unpleasant, whitewave, ( on here) just a realistic look at how difficult many aspects of Western life will be for Syrian Muslims,
As they know so little about our way of life.

rosesarered Sat 26-Sept-15 17:48:37

I know Petra, there are plenty of Muslims already here that haven't adjusted to Western values, tastes etc. It's a minefield really.I am glad to say though, that as a country we are taking these things more seriously now and not saying as many did before ' oh it's just their culture!'
The Hindu people that I know, have a much more relaxed stance and fit in much more.

whitewave Sat 26-Sept-15 17:46:06

Oh dear oh dear what an unpleasant line this thread is taking.

durhamjen Sat 26-Sept-15 17:44:35

Maybe this sort of thing would not be happening if more people hugged trees.

petra Sat 26-Sept-15 17:39:37

Just getting the crystal ball out, Roses. Although you didn't have to be Einstien to see this coming.

petra Sat 26-Sept-15 17:37:44

Roses. Just like they do in this country? We now have teams of police who's main focus is arranged marriages. We now have clinics set up for FGM victims. Oh they have really integrated, haven't they. And, no apology for using 'they'
