durhamjen - the article you read is probably accurate in some areas. Our Labour MP was re-elected, he's an excellent local MP and traditional Labour that is he is from an engineering/union background. His major fear during the last election wasn't the tories, it was Ukip. We're in the north west, former cotton area, large immigrant population, white working class angry and blaming the immigrants for lack of social housing, jobs etc. This is a traditional Labour area.

Whitewave, I just read an article which said that because of Labour's immigration policies lots of white working class are moving to Ukip.
I do not know any. They are all joining Labour under Corbyn as far as I can see, like you say, and of all ages.
What's interesting is they are keen to say so, too. Haven't seen anyone say they are happy to move to Ukip.

whitewave I agree. The changes being introduced by this government bring back the feelings I had when Thatcher was in power i.e. irreversible change to our society to the detriment of working class people. Millions being made from the outsourcing of public services or the wholesale selling of assets at low prices. It's woven into the governance of every level of our burocracy. This government knows what it wants to do and it will go to any length to achieve it irrespective of the true cost to the public purse. The truth behind the words is not what we are being led to believe.

And I feel helpless again. What is the point now of getting worked up about it? There's nothing I can do against this machine now it is in motion with several years before another election. All any of us can do is live our lives every day as best we can and hope public services will be there if we need them. As one of the vulnerable people we talk about, I worry about what lies ahead for me and my husband. God help us.

I get the feeling that everything is getting out of control, NHS in crises, Housing in crises, economy extremely fragile, local authorities having to take huge cuts in their grants, planning a free for all, control on the environment loosening, poverty rising exorbitantly, armed services taking enormous cuts. All in the name of laissez faire economics.

So what has he actually achieved other than fine words and, as I was told as a child "fine words butter no parsnips". There are still swaths of the population with unbuttered parsnips.

This is from an article headed "How much do you need to earn for a mortgage on one of David Cameron's 'affordable' homes?"which has a calculator at the bottom to tell you what someone needs to earn to buy these houses.

The bottom fifth of the population will be 4% WORSE off as a result of Tory policies. The top 5th will be 4% BETTER off.

So more affordable houses to buy. Who on the minimum wage or zero hours contracts can afford to buy one of these affordable houses? No mention of building social housing so the poorest cannot buy, cannot rent social houses, cannot afford private rental property.

perhaps a Tory supporter would explain how some earning £268 gross can save a deposit and then pay the mortgage on one of these affordable houses

So DC is going to tackle poverty?

So how does he square his rhetoric with a report produced by a team headed by David Willetts that says that as a direct result of DCs policies 200000 extra working people will be forced into poverty and overall a whopping 700000 extra people. This will raise the total to 4million.

The Tories do not like the fact that people are beginning to critisize this, however rather than revisit/rethink their policy they are thinking of delaying sending out the letters until after Christmas. They are obviously afraid of the

I did not refer to any political persuasion nor particular type of intimidation toward Jim Murphy I was quite clear I don't care what party an individual belongs to 'nobody' has the right to try and silence another person because they stand in opposition to their own political persuasion through intimidation 'of any kind'.

Murphy being 'egged' (juvenile behaviour) was not even in my mind to be honest. I used Murphy as an example of my belief that I do not simply think the aggression/intimidation towards the conservatives is an issue for me personally. I detest 'any' poor sod from any party being intimidated.

Quite right Ana there will always be a slant to the reporting and to the reading or viewing of the reports.

I posted this on another thread but it is just as appropriate here. We do indeed all see things differently.
