I have heard it mooted recently that they (the gov) want to impose a tax on all things sweet and nice. In a bid to make us all thin. Do we know if this would include Freddos? And Dolly Mixtures?

I think this would be exceedingly unfair. It would be hitting just the sweetie loving old ladies poor little kids, who are not supposed to be taxed at all.

Just how far is this government willing to go to inflict trouble and deprivation on me the children of the uk? What is JC's slant on this?

Is there likely to be a petition on 360 degrees?

How aggresive assertive do you feel it is in order to be over this?

Of course there would be a petition! Anything 'this government' proposes warrants one! grin

I'd be interested to hear janeainsworth's views on a sweetie-tax.

sweeties - OK fair enough

But never, never Freddos!!
Where's the petition?
I must start the RSPTF
(Royal Society for the Protection of Taxing of Frogs)

I'm having trouble saying this because my mouth is currently full of lollipop. Oh all right, I'll type it...
There should be an age limit on the sweetie tax, to protect the sweet eating grannies more mature among us. Actually, I'm sure this is what will happen, given that the government almost certainly wouldn't want to do anything that would allow all the old farts over 60's to draw their pensions for longer than is absolutely necessary.
In fact, with any luck they'll probably insist on a discount on all the naughty stuff for us, to hurry our demise grin

Would that be the end of Gransnet as we know it?

Oh dear, do they know I just had a slice of new york deli style cheesecake?

Jane10 Fri 09-Oct-15 20:21:47

Only one slice?

loopylou Fri 09-Oct-15 20:28:34

What are Freddos?

I would fight to defend my rights to scoff Jelly Beans, Lindt 'Balls' and Haribo gums.... and keep them hidden from DH who claims he never eats sweets hmm

rosequartz Fri 09-Oct-15 20:29:29

What are Freddos? shock

You know, chocolate frogs, beloved of DGC grannies

hildajenniJ Fri 09-Oct-15 20:35:07

Oh no! Not sweeties. Just this afternoon I had a curly wurly. My DH bought several at a reduced price because they were broken! They tasted just as good in little pieces. Do you know they are called a lecker schmecker in German! Now you know what I ate on my holidays.grin

I asked JC his slant on this unfair tax Jingl, but as he was chewing Thorntons brazil nut toffee at the time we spoke, his answer was a bit muffled. Will try again later.smile

rosesarered Fri 09-Oct-15 20:38:29

Curly wurlys are banned in this house, as the chocolate flakes off all over the place, and you find it later glued to your jeans, carpet, cushions, cat etc.
