People who have been living in their HA houses for 20-25 years will not have too many years left for a mortgage, I would think.

True, DJ. Trouble is, if they genuinely want to kill off social housing, this is the way to do it, as a large percentage of the houses in question will presumably be family-sized ones, and we all know that it's highly unlikely that they will be replaced, whatever we are led to believe now!

It was a stupid, stupid idea by a party that did not think they were going to get an overall majority. Forced selling off of council houses (at a discount to their mates maybe) to pay for this fiasco.
I do wonder though how many SH tenants in London will be able to afford the mortgage even if they get a discount as the market value of these properties must be very high.
They should be building more rentable properties not flogging them off.

I read an article in the i today about the fact that there is concern about the increase in TB in London. One in three boroughs show a rise, with the rate rising among UK-born Londoners, but falling among those born abroad.

Between August 2014 and July2015 there were 7366 people admitted to hospital with a primary or secondary diagnosis of malnutrition, compared with 4883 in 2010-11.

Quite appalling. Malnutrition is preventable in this country. That's just hospital admissions. AgeUK estimates suggest a million older people malnourished or at risk.
