lully don't apologise! I'm sorry for drawing attention to it blush

LullyDully Fri 16-Oct-15 13:18:58

He threw his status and career away and killed a beautiful girl.
Sad and gruesome.

(Spelling always been a weak spot. Sorry.)

I agree alea re the complex nature of race and politics in South Africa, what I was trying to express is that it is no longer so straightforward as White = Power in South Africa (naturally). If anything, I should imagine Pistorius' status as a world class athlete may have had an influence.

Alea Fri 16-Oct-15 08:18:56

The complex nature of race and politics in South Africa is not a straightforward White= bad, Black= good and there are still powerful pressures which can apply. I agree if Reeva had been black instead of from an old white family, the "Olympic/Paralympic golden boy" might have faced more instant condemnation.
(I assumed Pestorius was a typo for Pistorius rather than a Freudian slip and in the nature of not drawing attention to it chose not to comment)

alea being White in South Africa doesn't count as a plus.

Talking about irony, I had to smile at the Pest-orius. His name is Pistorius.

There is a legal battle going on in SA to have him tried for murder, brought about by the prosecution on the original case.

Alea Fri 16-Oct-15 00:21:19

White, Olympic "golden boy" and disabled for starters?

Eloethan Fri 16-Oct-15 00:02:10

I thought it was 5 years. Anyway, he's only done a year. What a slap in the face to his victim's family.

I never understood how such a verdict could have been arrived at.

Thought he was under house arrest. I would've thought he was finished but nothing would surprise me really. If there's money to be made and all that.

ninathenana Thu 15-Oct-15 20:21:19

I was angry to hear he's been released, even if he will be under house arrest.
Sentence was 9 yrs why isn't he serving his time.

grannylyn65 Thu 15-Oct-15 20:20:37

Am fairly sure Lully is being ironic!!

Marmark1 Thu 15-Oct-15 20:18:04

Agree with you Alea.

Alea Thu 15-Oct-15 19:08:49

Is that being ironic Lullydully?
He hasn't served his entire sentence and will be under a form of house arrest, but to think of him"representing his country" after what he did is chilling.
Am I being cynical to think he got off with a reduced charge because of who he is? He sounded a pretty unpleasant, trigger-happy gung-ho type with serious issues at the best of times.

Jane10 Thu 15-Oct-15 16:25:49

Don't suppose he'll compete again though.

Ana Thu 15-Oct-15 16:25:11

He was convicted of culpable homicide, or manslaughter, not murder though.

LullyDully Thu 15-Oct-15 16:17:36

Yes

Marmark1 Thu 15-Oct-15 15:47:06

Didn't he murder his girl freind!

LullyDully Thu 15-Oct-15 13:29:32

So glad he's out of prison in time for the Olympics.'??
