What ideas are there instead of bombing?

Yes I know, another thread about IS.

But I am interested to have a thread, where those who dont want bombing of Syria, say what they do want to happen instead? To stop IS?

It seems to me that most if not all gransnet posters want IS stopped. How?

TBH roses, if it makes them feel good then I'm quite happy to leave them to it, and of course no one has to read the interminable links.

POGS, I agree with your post, but it's a waste of time trying to have any sort of dialogue with those two on this subject.

durhamjen Mon 07-Dec-15 21:30:06

So instead we ignore the fact that the children in Homs do not want to be bombed. We bomb them for their own good.

POGS Mon 07-Dec-15 21:23:27

Anniebach and durhamjen

You both are very happy to use a holier than thou rhetoric and yet you only see your comments in a one directional path.

Anniebach 19.36

"We must hope it isn't shown to those who voted to bomb Syria, they may get upset. NA"

Durhamjen 19.41

"Of course they will not Annie, Just children after all"

If I were a horrible natured , egocentric I could equally ask you what you thought of an interview with a young girl who escaped from Syria and now helps run a safe camp in Iraq for Yazidi girls who had been raped by IS who have escaped from mostly Raqqa after seeing babies slaughtered, children and women raped and sold into slavery . She said that the girls would wait for the planes to go over as it was there one chance to try and escape from IS barbarity.

One thing I would not do is make an assumption that because you do not agree with the coalition bombing you were lacking in empathy for those women and
children suffering at the hands of IS because that would be to mind a cruel, comtemptable and taking a loathsome view as I know perfectly well you would never be anything other than sad for them also.

There is no less sadness felt by all posters as your frequent comments would have you believe. The reality is whether we do or whether we do not believe we should join in with fight against IS , men, women, children and babies are dying every day but more so at the hands of Assad and IS who do not have any desire to give them the chance, the hope of freedom from the tyranny of IS nor Assad and his constant onslaught of barrel bombs and possibly using phosphorous chemicals.

durhamjen Mon 07-Dec-15 21:18:51

I do not suppose you even bothered looking at Mairead Maguire's message either.

www.peacepeople.com/?p=886

Corbyn's response.

durhamjen Mon 07-Dec-15 21:15:25

Bring peace by bombing?
Perhaps all those who supported bombing should have remembered what time of year it is!

rosesarered Mon 07-Dec-15 20:35:14

Yes, petallus I will do just that.
let's all hope that Britain and all the other countries involved will be able to bring peace eventually to Syria, to destroy Daesh, and to unite as much as possible the various groups into power sharing. It won't be quick, and it won't be simple, but hopefully will be doable.

rosesarered Mon 07-Dec-15 20:30:07

I think that people who wallow in gloom, doom and complete negative thinking are not doing themselves or others, any favours.
The vote has been taken by MP's to try and rid Syria of Daesh, or at least to destroy oil fields and whatever they can, to weaken this awful terrorist group. This constant harping on about it, does nobody any good.

petallus Mon 07-Dec-15 20:18:38

why not lead the way?

rosesarered Mon 07-Dec-15 20:17:26

Although one does not always expect too much!

rosesarered Mon 07-Dec-15 20:15:05

One lives in hope.

Ana Mon 07-Dec-15 20:10:18

Oh, I can just imagine the response you'll get to that suggestion, roses! hmm

rosesarered Mon 07-Dec-15 20:04:36

djen and anniebach I really think your posts are beyond awful, how about you think what time of the year it nearly is, and spread a little goodwill instead of these kind of posts?

durhamjen Mon 07-Dec-15 19:41:34

Of course they will not, Annie. Just children, after all.
However, this might upset them.

stopwar.org.uk/index.php/news/war-veterans-to-discard-medals-in-protest-against-uk-bombing-of-syria

What a waste of medals! I suppose they could melt them down and recast them; give them to those who appreciate them.

Anniebach Mon 07-Dec-15 19:36:58

Yes so very sad. We must hope it isn't shown to those who voted to bomb Syria , they may get upset ? Na

durhamjen Mon 07-Dec-15 19:30:53

stopwar.org.uk/index.php/news/nobel-peace-laureate-mairead-maguire-brings-a-message-from-syrian-children

Sad, this. Too late as well.

petra Mon 07-Dec-15 16:48:46

As Annie knows we don't always agree. But I know exactly what she is getting at and agree completely.

Anniebach Mon 07-Dec-15 15:02:47

Do tell me where my engagement ring is soon, my elder daughter hid it in 1971

soontobe Mon 07-Dec-15 14:48:58

You need to embrace the truth Anniebach. There is no hiding place anywhere. Nothing remains hidden.

Anniebach Mon 07-Dec-15 14:38:40

Not showing off rosequartz, just trying to recall the places I met Corbyn and where soon could have too , I have always said Michael and Jill were family friends . My father didn't know Lloyd George, he was a friend of Ny Bevan, I have a photograph of me - beautiful baby - with Ny and Jennie

rosequartz Mon 07-Dec-15 14:30:48

soon he even looks more 'presentable' now, doesn't he! Note the new haircut too. He is beginning to look more 'Establishment'. wink

(ducks for cover from other posters)
I'm off before I cause any more trouble anyone gets upset smile

rosequartz Mon 07-Dec-15 14:28:12

I know not in Michael Foot's house
That's really showing off now, anniebach grin
Anyway, when did soon mention Michael Foot, what did I miss?

I feel like singing that old song 'Lloyd George knew my father, father knew Lloyd George'
Except I could sing 'Jeremy's Mum was my teacher, my teacher was Jeremy's Mum'

Any more black cats anyone?

soontobe Mon 07-Dec-15 14:27:50

And mocking again

soontobe Mon 07-Dec-15 14:27:07

JC did used to be like that. He has had to change on that too. You are not actually saying he wasnt. You are not actually disagreeing with what I have written. Just diverting again

Anniebach Mon 07-Dec-15 14:25:38

True rosequartz, aw soon will be of no help then

Anniebach Mon 07-Dec-15 14:22:31

soon, perhaps we stood next to each other on the anti war in Iraq campaign, or during a rally in support of the miners strike. Or even the annual Durham miners rally . I know not in Michael Foot's house or any annual Labour Party conference or even when he was on the hustings in Wales
