Cameron's Christmas message

Having read the headline perhaps Cameron can reflect on Christian values of faith, hope and charity and look to his conscience for guidance concerning the more unfortunate people both at home and abroad! Where is kindness, support and understanding in government policy? Is it really Christian to see people in poverty, the NHS a shambles whilst our leaders are revelling in their million £ homes and tasting all the good things life has to offer. Perhaps he thinks that charity begins in his home and doesn't extend further than his circle mates.

Anyway, my Christmas message is to help and support all those who are less well off than ourselves in whatever small way we can. Happy Christmas all and please forgive the grouch. (I'm an aetheist (spelling has deserted me on this Christmas eve) - I must be getting older!)

Oh, and I must tell JessM before I forget!! You're right!! I've remembered now that I have read one of those right-wing papers owned by billionaires who don't pay tax (at least I think it could be).

I read Tony Benn's memoirs in the Daily Mail, bought it especially, and enjoyed them very much.
There have been quite a few Labour politicians' memoirs serialised in the Daily Mail I believe, it would save on buying a whole book.

Ironic, really, why they should choose the DM, I suppose I should say if it's good enough for Tony Benn it's good enough for me. However, I don't buy it except on special occasions like that smile

As some of the reports were on the BBC I suppose Cameron would now be its official spokesperson according to some people who may disbelieve the reports hmm

Anniebach Sat 02-Jan-16 20:49:07

Yes he was married thatbags, they had four children , I admired Caroline be cause she championed secondary modern schools and their four children received comprehensive school education

I have never paid a penny more in tax than I have too. The laws on tax need changing, what is so unfair is the ordinary working man is taxed at source, the rest claim tax relief on the most trivial things but it must save them a lot considering they have to pay accountants fees

Ana Sat 02-Jan-16 20:52:19

'The rest' would of course include people of any or no political persuasion, not just Tories.

Anniebach Sat 02-Jan-16 21:29:16

For a PM Cameron was shameful during the election, he used Scotland and Wales with vitriolic attacks .

grumppa Sat 02-Jan-16 21:33:14

The tax mechanism for "the ordinary working man" is the same for all employed people and those in receipt of occupational pensions. The scope for claiming tax reliefs is pretty much limited to legitimate business expenses, the same as those which can be claimed by the OWM if he has incurred them.

Let's try to keep clear of emotional and class-laden phraseology.

thatbags Sat 02-Jan-16 21:45:40

Hear, hear, grumppa.

Yes, ab, I googled Caroline Benn (after my ignorant* speculations) and was impressed by what I read about her.

*ignorant in its literal sense of not knowing.

thatbags Sat 02-Jan-16 21:48:04

rq, re those billionaire newspaper owners... is it that they don't personally pay the tax they should pay or theri companies that don't. Not that it matters which really if it's the bloody stupid LAWS that are at fault when all's said and done.

thatbags Sat 02-Jan-16 21:50:40

In short I don't care which companies use the stupid laws in order to pay minimum tax. What I care about is that the LAWS are stupid and NONE of our governments, of any political persuasion seem to want to change the laws.

Meanwhile the plebs rant and rant about the companies who follow the law to the letter.

Sigh.

thatbags Sat 02-Jan-16 21:51:59

where pleb = ordinary folk. I'm one.

Anniebach Sat 02-Jan-16 21:54:27

Pity Letwin couldn't grumppa

Anniebach Sat 02-Jan-16 22:00:30

It's bringing class into a thread if ordinary working man is mentioned, yet not when posh is brought into a thread , too funny

grumppa Sat 02-Jan-16 22:03:33

I quite agree, ab, but I was not seeking to draw comparisons between you and the unspeakable Letwin.

Lilygran Sat 02-Jan-16 22:07:40

Exactly what we keep shouting at the News, Bags. If they are avoiding paying tax without breaking the law......they manage to pass plenty of laws we don't need and can't enforce!

Ana Sat 02-Jan-16 22:09:55

Posh is just a silly word.

durhamjen Sat 02-Jan-16 22:34:28

www.nhssurvival.org/news-page/133-commons-debate-on-nhs-care-commisison-6th-jan.html

For anyone interested, there is a debate on Wednesday about the NHS.

Hunt agreed in April that it would be a good idea to have an all-party commission to sort out the NHS and care.

NHSsurvival wants you to contact your MPs to tell them that's what you want, too. If that is what you want rather thyan letting the Tories run it into the ground.

England only, I believe.

Anniebach Sat 02-Jan-16 22:48:09

Surely Wales should be included in the debate considering we have been told the Welsh are crossing the border in droves to use English hospitals

Ana Sat 02-Jan-16 22:49:59

Yes. And not just South Wales.

Ana Sat 02-Jan-16 22:51:25

As we have been told that the NHS under Labour is so much better.

Anniebach Sat 02-Jan-16 23:01:46

Do we believe am American owned newspaper printed in England ? Mmmmm ,difficult - not

rosequartz Sat 02-Jan-16 23:03:10

thatbags I have no idea about billionaire newspaper owners, it was JessM* who assumed- or rather told me quite definitely! - (without knowing a thing about me) that I read their publications.
I don't, in fact, buy a newspaper.

I am assuming (dangerous thing to do!) that some other posters may have more knowledge than me of who they are and their nefarious financial affairs.

rosequartz Sat 02-Jan-16 23:24:57

Anniebach
So - if you do not believe the South Wales Argus and are wondering if it has a hidden agenda - do you believe the BBC has also? It has not just been reported in the SWA but on television, in other newspapers and I know from friends and relatives.

Anyway, a previous post indicated that you may think it is acceptable for Welsh patients to be treated in English private hospitals as long as they are treated, which surprised me somewhat, given the general consensus by leftwing posters that NHS = Good and Private = Bad

It don't find it unacceptable as the waiting lists are so long here.
DH was told he could possibly be seen some time this millennium for an orthopaedic appointment (or pay privately).
Other treatment can be as good as in England - as long as you are already in the system.
(Oh, unless too many babies arrive in Cardiff on one day in which case ambulance all the way to Somerset.)

rosequartz Sat 02-Jan-16 23:26:29

Sorry - I, not It

Tablet on a go slow

durhamjen Sat 02-Jan-16 23:39:44

This is who owns Newsquest, which publishes most of the local papers in the UK, USA and probably the world.

I have no problem in anyone having treatment on the NHS no matter the hospital, the person is being helped and the treatment paid for . I accept we have a shortage of doctors , to suggest I think a person should die rather than receive treatment because I am against private hospitals is childish sorry.
