Oh do wander off Jings - do you think that the people in Cumbria whose houses are saturated and uninhabitable were feeling very Christmassy? Or the soldiers and firefighters who were sent to the north to help? They didn't get much of a Christmas either. This is not a forum in which queen Jingle is the all-powerful editor who determines that all threads should suit her royal mood. You could always start your own forum you know.

Well, this thread has kept some Gransnetters occupied over the Xmas period, if nothing else.

I am quite sure I will be corrected if mistaken - quite sure! When Cameron visited the floods in his area did he not assure the residents the money was there for them? Yet yesterday his assurance was - we will look at what can be done. North South devide yet again.

gillybob IMO it is to be seen to be concerned. Are there any photos of Cameron commiserating with victims? Inside a devastated house? No - it was photo shoots with soldiers and then back to Oxfordshire. ITV showed a shot of him hovering near the end of a flooded road and a woman shouting at him off camera.

Homelessness increased. Food banks use increased. Universal Credit and sanctions sending people in to even more dispair and poverty. The Christian way?

A message about Cameron's Christmas message from someone who does not claim to be a better Christian than Cameron, but at least knows what Jesus was on about.

As said somewhere else, do they have to come and see for themselves in order for the disaster to exist?

To be fair though JessM. There is a tendency for prime ministers and royalty to visit sites of disasters etc. to "see for themselves". Can't see a problem with that.

Exactly Elegran it is also very easy to say what you would do better until of course you find that you have neither the ability or resources to do it.

It is always noticeable how much better the opposition could run the country - until they get voted in and actually have to do it. Then the new opposition become the experts.

Reality is a cool and levelling thing indeed, roses.

The thing is, the truth must be that millions of Conservative voters ( either life long ones, or others thinking that the Conservatives will do a better job all round) cannot all be taken in by 'spin and lies', look at it the other way, if Labour under Ed Miliband had won the election would a few Tory posters on here be saying the same thing about Labour now? Quite possibly is the answer.Will Corbyn always be truthful? He may get around this knotty problem by not saying much at all ( apparently the case in many Shadow cabinet meetings.)All politicians make promises, in all parties, then, once in power, find that things have changed,or they simply can't afford to do it,or it was a mistake to promise it in the first place.The last Labour government was accused of 'spin and lies' the whole time.

I hear he is honouring the north of England with his presence today. I suspect the locals are a lot more happy to see the Muslim chaps from Bradford etc who are turning up with curry and willing pairs of hands to help with the cleanup.

It's a sad reflection that so many people get taken in by spin and lies. Did you notice how many more spads Cameron and his cronies now have? We're paying for them. Maybe that's how the employment figures get fixed, too.

And next time he will not need so many votes if he gerrymanders the constituency boundaries.
I think it was www.hopenothate.org.uk that organised a registration drive to get as many people as possible to sign up, as did the Labour Party and the People's Assembly. I hope it worked.
