Cameron's Christmas message

Having read the headline perhaps Cameron can reflect on Christian values of faith, hope and charity and look to his conscience for guidance concerning the more unfortunate people both at home and abroad! Where is kindness, support and understanding in government policy? Is it really Christian to see people in poverty, the NHS a shambles whilst our leaders are revelling in their million £ homes and tasting all the good things life has to offer. Perhaps he thinks that charity begins in his home and doesn't extend further than his circle mates.

Anyway, my Christmas message is to help and support all those who are less well off than ourselves in whatever small way we can. Happy Christmas all and please forgive the grouch. (I'm an aetheist (spelling has deserted me on this Christmas eve) - I must be getting older!)

Whatever "good deeds" he does by stealth in no way counteracts the fact that he, as leader of this government, has presided over many "bad deeds" done in plain view that have affected thousands of people who don't deserve it.

Which leaves me thinking that Cameron, Christian or no, gave his xmas address to the nation because, like Pooh Bear (he of very little brain), he thought it was The Thing To Do* as PM.

* Owl said: It's the customary procedure.
Pooh said: What does Crustemoney Proseedcake mean?
Owl said: It means that it's the thing to do.

(or words to that effect; not claiming exact replication of the original).

Perhaps in his personal and private life he "does good by stealth and would blush to have it fame" ?

There are many who separate their public and private lives very successfully. It is not essential to publish private good deeds, in fact the suspicion that they have been done for publication can tarnish them.

rosesarered Sun 27-Dec-15 15:42:19

Since nobody here knows Cameron personally, I don't think anyone can comment on how Christian ( or not ) he is.

rosesarered Sun 27-Dec-15 15:37:02

I'm afraid that djen and anniebach do seem to merge into one with me as well, jingl the names are different but the content the same.?

thatbags Sun 27-Dec-15 14:42:46

Indeed not, ab, mainly, I suspect, because they don't regard their values as quintessentially Christian.

However, neither do they proselytise in any case.

Anniebach Sun 27-Dec-15 14:31:10

I agree thatbags , but they do not tell others to remember Christian values surely?

durhamjen Sun 27-Dec-15 14:28:55

Cameron doesn't.

thatbags Sun 27-Dec-15 14:11:03

My point, however, is that one can, and many do, live by standards as ethical and as morally good as Christ's teachings without being a Christian. Most of the people I know do this.

thatbags Sun 27-Dec-15 14:08:37

True thatbags, but unless a person lives their life according to Christs teachings they should not tell others to remember them

Also true but I haven't noticed that stopping some people. I'm not referring to anyone on gransnet.

Anniebach Sun 27-Dec-15 13:42:03

I do mix up the names of rosequartz and rosesarered but never what they say , so they do not merge as one in my brain.

durhamjen Sun 27-Dec-15 13:35:54

So why do we merge into one in your brain?
I do not mix you up with anyone else! I'm sure Anniebach doesn't either, but she can speak for herself.

jinglbellsfrocks Sun 27-Dec-15 12:58:48

Sins of the fathers being visited on..... Comes to mind.

dj I know. There are clues in your names.

durhamjen Sun 27-Dec-15 12:37:25

Thanks, Tegan. I didn't google it, jingl, it's in my memory, just as it is in Tegan's and anyone else's who cares about people paying their fair share of tax.. As is the fact that it was Thatcher who relaxed the rules just after she came into power and allowed Cameron senior to save so much in unpaid taxes. He set up businesses to enable other rich people to do the same. So kind of him.

By the way, jingl, for your information, I live in the North East, County Durham, to be exact, and Anniebach lives in Wales. You can tell by the names. Just to save you getting us mixed up again.

Anniebach Sun 27-Dec-15 12:29:56

True thatbags, but unless a person lives their life according to Christs teachings they should not tell others to remember them

Tegan Sun 27-Dec-15 12:06:00

Camerons fathers involvement with offshore tax havens is pretty much common knowledge because even I know about it.

thatbags Sun 27-Dec-15 12:05:06

Christian beliefs do not always translate into christian good behaviour. Same with any religious beliefs. It's a person's ethical beliefs that influence their behaviour.

That bit about Cameron's father's money has me wondering if people who store/invest their money off-shore in order to avoid paying tax just don't think it is unethical. Perhaps they feel they contribute their share of duty to their country in other ways. Such an argument doesn't hold up in my head but people have weirder beliefs than that and still manage to be good(ish) people.

jinglbellsfrocks Sun 27-Dec-15 11:59:47

And before you jump on me, I was laughing at us, not the refugees.

jinglbellsfrocks Sun 27-Dec-15 11:58:11

Of course I was distressed. Along with the rest of the population.

I have lost my train of thought now. tchhmm Grandson wants help with his Lego. I might come back to this. tchgrin

Anniebach Sun 27-Dec-15 11:56:30

Cameron's fathers will made front pages as did his off shore tax haven where he kept his money

jinglbellsfrocks Sun 27-Dec-15 11:55:19

Who? tchgrin

Anniebach Sun 27-Dec-15 11:54:53

So perhaps you didn't shed a tear Jingle but you were deeply distressed so no, not sarcasm .

jinglbellsfrocks Sun 27-Dec-15 11:54:39

That last post should have been directed at durhamjen. Although ab and dj do seem to merge into one and the same in my brain. Sorry about that.

trendygran Sun 27-Dec-15 11:54:06

Such a tight lipped (always it seems) hypocrite.

jinglbellsfrocks Sun 27-Dec-15 11:49:41

You have more info than I do on the finances of the Cameron family. You must make excellent use of your Google box. And your time. Enjoy.
