Cameron's Christmas message

Having read the headline perhaps Cameron can reflect on Christian values of faith, hope and charity and look to his conscience for guidance concerning the more unfortunate people both at home and abroad! Where is kindness, support and understanding in government policy? Is it really Christian to see people in poverty, the NHS a shambles whilst our leaders are revelling in their million £ homes and tasting all the good things life has to offer. Perhaps he thinks that charity begins in his home and doesn't extend further than his circle mates.

Anyway, my Christmas message is to help and support all those who are less well off than ourselves in whatever small way we can. Happy Christmas all and please forgive the grouch. (I'm an aetheist (spelling has deserted me on this Christmas eve) - I must be getting older!)

Sorry. Watching the dancing at the same time.

here

Have we had a link to this seemingly preposterous speech? [[https://www.facebook.com/DavidCameronOfficial/posts/1099608983396752 it's here]

Anniebach Fri 25-Dec-15 18:44:36

Because some other countries have despots as leaders it doesn't mean Cameron is without fault

Anan Fri 25-Dec-15 18:41:43

Who would be a politician. The man cannot do right in your eyes no matter what. We have a really decent man in DC. Look at other countries in the world - Syria, Russia, many of the African countries and so on. Perhaps you would prefer to live under their regimes. Many people in this country are just spoilt

Anniebach Fri 25-Dec-15 14:42:23

No one has said they don't appreciate this country, the criticism is directed at Cameron telling us to reflect on Christian values , something he fails to do

Balini Fri 25-Dec-15 13:52:04

I agree with tricia58.

tricia58 Fri 25-Dec-15 08:39:36

I dont think politicians should preach, they are there to do a practical job and that is all. But Politicians whatever party will never get everything right for everyone ever, we all want different things from them, but we should appreciate what this country does give us, it could be a lot worse.

Eloethan Thu 24-Dec-15 23:38:36

He and his government have made the rich richer and the poor poorer. That doesn't seem to me to reflect the "Christian values" that he purports to hold dear. Perhaps that is why he is getting a lot of flak jingle.

Elegran Thu 24-Dec-15 22:17:35

It goes with the job, jings Heaven knows why any of them are so keen to get it.

jinglbellsfrocks Thu 24-Dec-15 22:08:47

I'm not quite sure why Cameron gets blamed for all the ills in the world. tchgrin

nigglynellie Thu 24-Dec-15 17:19:13

Time for Kings College, now this part of christianity I do enjoy very very much. A case of God working in mysterious ways?!!

Ana Thu 24-Dec-15 17:10:25

They all have already, haven't they? (Except for Corbyn, of course)

Lilygran Thu 24-Dec-15 17:08:58

Of course Corbyn is relevant, he's a party leader ab and all the party leaders will now feel they are also expected to give a message!

feetlebaum Thu 24-Dec-15 17:05:38

People in Politiics who wurble on about 'Christian Values' never specify what they mean by that phrase, do they?

Whatever, they somehow always seem to conform to what pleases the wurbler.

nigglynellie Thu 24-Dec-15 16:48:18

I agree gillybob, there is absolutely no problem at all with your views. I was baptised into the christian faith and undoubtedly will be buried in the same way, but whether I actually believe in 'God' is a very moot point. Why is christianity so right, and other faiths so wrong including pre christian ones? These thoughts do provoke a lot of questions , but not many answers!! I try to live my life in what I believe to be a civilised way, and the afterlife will have to take care of itself. Happy Christmas!

gillybob Thu 24-Dec-15 16:21:19

I would not consider myself a true Christian but I am proud to hold "Christian"values. What's the problem with that?

For some people, Cameron couldn't have said right for saying wrong.

Happy Christmas to everyone of every political persuasion. tchsmile

nigglynellie Thu 24-Dec-15 16:01:56

It was in answer to lilygrans comment ab. You can find it quite easily.

Anniebach Thu 24-Dec-15 15:50:56

I agree JessM

Anniebach Thu 24-Dec-15 15:50:15

No thatbags, you are assuming he meant the values only belongs to Christians but he didn't say that, they are Christian values , they are also values shared by people of other faiths and no faith ,sadly they are not values of all human beings, if only they were.

Nigglenellie, what on earth has Corbyn to do with thread ? It is Cameron's Christmas message to the country which is being discussed , not Corbyn, The Pope , the Dali Llama or The United Nations

JessM Thu 24-Dec-15 15:49:57

Pop over to Twitter where #YouAintNoChristianBruv is trending...

JessM Thu 24-Dec-15 15:31:14

I think that based on the quotes i have read it is the most hypocritical thing ever written. He has the insensitivity to use these words: “If there is one thing people want at Christmas, it’s the security of having their family around them and a home that is safe.”
This, when figures suggest that homelessness is increasing rapidly and that, according to charities, over 100,000 children will be homeless this Christmas. When refuges and hostels run by charities are being forced to close.
And
He has the temerity to mention refugees when he is making only a token gesture to helping those desperate families who are now stranded all over Europe, driven from their homes by violence. The Christianity of the Germans is humbling in comparison.
What is it about the Christmas story he doesn't get - middle eastern family. getting pushed around by a dictatorship, in need of a place of safety.

nigglynellie Thu 24-Dec-15 15:27:57

He's apparently giving a New Years message! We wait with baited anticipation to hear what this sainted person has to say!!!!!

Lilygran Thu 24-Dec-15 15:25:16

We shouldn't have to have a 'Christmas message' from Cameron! Who does he think he is? For once, I thought Corbyn was absolutely spot on to give simple Christmas wishes at PMQs.

nigglynellie Thu 24-Dec-15 15:19:49

Whatever D.C. had said in his Christmas message would have been nauseous to most people on this thread. No doubt the Queens will too. Almost certainly J.C's will be perfect. Oh well, frankly who cares! My New Years resolution is to avoid these threads like the proverbial plague, and leave you good people to run the world. All so easy when you don't actually have to do it!

thatbags Thu 24-Dec-15 15:09:14

He talks about "Christian values" as if those values belong only to Christians. They are human values, regardless of anyone's religious faith or lack of it.
