Cameron's Christmas message

Having read the headline perhaps Cameron can reflect on Christian values of faith, hope and charity and look to his conscience for guidance concerning the more unfortunate people both at home and abroad! Where is kindness, support and understanding in government policy? Is it really Christian to see people in poverty, the NHS a shambles whilst our leaders are revelling in their million £ homes and tasting all the good things life has to offer. Perhaps he thinks that charity begins in his home and doesn't extend further than his circle mates.

Anyway, my Christmas message is to help and support all those who are less well off than ourselves in whatever small way we can. Happy Christmas all and please forgive the grouch. (I'm an aetheist (spelling has deserted me on this Christmas eve) - I must be getting older!)

What I find awful is them resigning on television or radio. How important do they think they are?

One comment on the reshuffle was that it was kept minimal to see what else it would shake loose. If that's so, it worked.

Jen, the Welsh junior minister who resigned campaigned against Corbyn being elected as leader. Waste of his time though , been waiting for the blairites to openly attack ,

She's presumably one of the 'Labour MPs who gained'...

Ana Wed 06-Jan-16 21:06:35

Back in December 2014, Thornberry declared in her register of interests a donation of £14,500 from Leigh Day & Co. Labour later came under fire when it was revealed that this was the same law firm who had pursued false claims that British soldiers in Iraq were involved in torture and murder. The law firm was criticised after an inquiry found the allegations to be ‘based on deliberate and calculated lies’ and ‘wholly and entirely without merit’.

What a fine figure of a politician...

“Single” homelessness refers to individuals without dependents, who are not entitled to accommodation from local authorities. Some of these are visible on our streets – in autumn 2014, the official rough sleeping estimate was 2,744, up 14% from 2013. But most remain out of sight – “hidden” in bed and breakfasts or squats and on the floors and couches of friends and family. There is no effective or robust mechanism to monitor “single” homelessness, so these people are largely absent from government statistics. Our best estimate is that there were 2.23m single homeless people in England, in 2013.

An important paragraph in the article.

Annie, my MP is now the shadow minister for Europe, and pro. Also a woman.
However, there are more comments on those Blairites who lost their jobs than the Labour MPs who gained.

Ana Wed 06-Jan-16 21:02:35

Hysteria? Another gross exaggeration...

As for appointing Emily Thornberry as shadow defence secretary - what is he thinking?

Anniebach Wed 06-Jan-16 20:59:39

Thank you for the link Jen, hopefully it will be read by those who care about the homeless and how the figures are fiddled

Anniebach Wed 06-Jan-16 20:51:29

The floods and the homeless are not important Jen, the floods are of so little interest to Cameron he got over excited with another of his well rehearsed attempt at a joke.

I find the BBC coverage of the reshuffle rather hysterical, two junior ministers , both blairites lose their jobs , three more blairites resign and doing so on TV and radio is so obvious it was planned. Seems everyone has forgotten Cameron's night of the long knives in 2014, he got shot of front benchers to make posts available for women following the attacks in the press of it being an old boys club, he even gave that ghastly Esther McMay- not sure how to spell her name - a post in the cabinet , she lost her seat less than a year later , he even booted Ken Clarke out, demoted his friend Willie Hague, yet all this hysteria over a few junior posts

Ana Wed 06-Jan-16 20:25:52

Four people is hardly 'a load'. Exaggeration seems rife on this thread.

durhamjen Wed 06-Jan-16 20:13:24

Well, good heavens, a load of people who do not support Corbyn do not support Corbyn and support each other not supporting Corbyn.
How strange.

I prefer the new style of PMQs, and, as I said, it's more important to those who have been flooded to stay on track.
They want to know why the government stopped money for flood defences, particularly in Leeds.
I heard on the radio today that households completely flooded out in central York who have no insurance will get £500 compensation. These are households so poor they cannot afford insurance.

theconversation.com/who-are-the-homeless-and-how-do-we-count-them-52061

An article on homelessness, and who is counted.

nigglynellie Wed 06-Jan-16 19:54:45

I just think he's too old, end of. I'm sure he means well but I can't imagine the majority of the public will vote or want 'a blast from the past' as the next PM. Maybe JC is just there for a year or two and will be replaced by a younger more modern person time come.

Ana Wed 06-Jan-16 19:31:23

It seems he only wants 'yes men' (and women) to serve under him. So much for a 'new kind of politics'.

Ana Wed 06-Jan-16 19:28:05

And he's even worse at reshuffling his shadow cabinet. He's coming over as incompetent and rather unpleasant to a lot of people, not just right wingers.

rosesarered Wed 06-Jan-16 19:25:23

He could have asked 2 questions on the floods and taken Cameron to task about other things, he is just not good at PMQ's.

durhamjen Wed 06-Jan-16 19:21:09

As our village was flooded yesterday, and knowing people in Leeds, Manchester, Cockermouth and York who were close to being flooded in their homes, I was grateful to see he asked relevant questions.
I do not think any of them would appreciate Cameron's mood.

rosesarered Wed 06-Jan-16 19:02:01

Because all his six questions were basically the same question, and even when answered by Cameron( in a no nonsense from you matey mood)Corbyn just ploughed on and on, even the Labour back benchers looked cheesed off.

gillybob Wed 06-Jan-16 18:59:15

You must be "balanced" too petra smile

petra Wed 06-Jan-16 18:56:15

I wish I knew what I am. I believe in bits from every party.

durhamjen Wed 06-Jan-16 18:55:01

How did Corbyn look ridiculous on PMQ? I think that asking questions about flooding is eminently preferable to not answering them and making cheap jibes in response.

Ana Wed 06-Jan-16 18:52:04

Absolutely, although it will cut no ice with the socialists on here who consider anyone who doesn't agree with their opinions to be right wing, or even on the far right...

rosesarered Wed 06-Jan-16 18:48:04

Well said, gillybob smile

gillybob Wed 06-Jan-16 18:44:55

Actually for your information Anniebach, I am neither right wing nor left wing. I consider myself to be balanced.

I no longer see the point of following any one party blindly.

rosesarered Wed 06-Jan-16 17:49:32

We all have more to to worry about than right wing ( or indeed left wing)
Posters btw.

nigglynellie Wed 06-Jan-16 17:28:37

Amused you?!! Surely not!!

Anniebach Wed 06-Jan-16 17:13:35

gillybob, carry on, I an not looking for argument, I have far more to worry about than the views of right wing posters
