Just read that he has died following a stroke.

Another sad loss. There seem to be so many of our era shuffling off sad

He had become a bit of a Christmas tradition for me over the years and listening to him on Christmas morning always gave me happy memories and a couple of tears.

I can remember listening to Ed Stewart on Radio London in the 60's and his catchphrase "Ello Darlin". It became part of tradition to listen to his Junior Choice programme on Christmas morning while preparing the dinner. Will miss Ed and all those childhood songs he played (even a few from my own childhood)! I must admit he didn't sound his usual chirpy self this Christmas day, so probably wasn't too well then.

Until I read it on here, I didn't know one of my favorite DJs had died. RIP Ed Stewart - you'll be missed.

We used to have Radio London on when I was a kid, my mum was a fan, I remember seeing Ed Stewart playing football at a RL event in London once. Mum's been friends with Keith Skues for the last 50 odd years, she gets a mention in his book and goes on his program occasionally.

Very sad when our own age group dies before us. Quite a wake up. Glad his marriage did so well though the daily Telegraph says:

Ed Stewart married Chiara Henney in 1974. The marriage was later dissolved and he is survived by their two children.

A good sound entertainer, gave great pleasure to a lot of us, also with Princess Margaret and the Queen Mother as fans, with no negative back story. RIP

Sad to hear it. He was never accused of any sex offences, what a pity that had to be mentioned at all particularly as it was unfounded.

Stewpot married a very young girl and there was comment at the time. I see from today's paper that the marriage lasted for 31 years. Impressive.

Always a part of Christmas; he sounded so frail this year. We always played 'Junior Choice Bingo', I got 4 corners this year with 'White Horses', 'Ernie', 'camp Granada' and 'Hole in my Bucket'! He will be missed.

Oh dear! Blotted me copy-book again. Sigh!

jinglbellsfrocks Sat 09-Jan-16 22:54:17

I didn't tar him with any brush anyway. Just said I can never remember who was and who wasn't... etc. And I can't.

Sorry if I've knocked anyone's childhood hero.

jinglbellsfrocks Sat 09-Jan-16 22:48:30

And they are all going to be reading Gransnet, aren't they?

hmm

annsixty Sat 09-Jan-16 22:43:21

merlotgran Sat 09-Jan-16 21:41:26

I don't think Stewpot was under any suspicion.

I can never remember who's been done for sex offences and who hasn't. I'm guessing he must have been one of the good guys.

Pittcity Sat 09-Jan-16 19:22:47

I fondly remember him in Crackerjack and on Junior Choice.
