How sad - grew up with David Bowie music. Great singer, great star and he will be sadly missed. RIP David

Such a shock to hear this sad news today. But respect to him for keeping his illness private for 18 months, and arranging to leave one last album for his fans. That is how to do it, the current trend of talentless reality "celebrities" should take note.

Woke to this very sad news and thought I'd heard it wrong. Couldn't believe it especially as his latest album only came out on his birthday last Friday. From what I hear this album charts his feelings about dying. A great artist and part of all our lives.

Too too sad. The soundtrack to one's life for so many people.

Love David Bowie. His appeal stretches across the generations. My DD and DGD will be equally sad to hear of his death. Thoughts go out to his family at this sad time. RIP David.

What sad news. A clever musician and a talented showman. So individual. Part of many of our "wild days". RIP David. Bless you. flowers

I always thought of him as young, though we were roughly contemporaries. We shall not see his like again.

Ed Stewart, now David Bowie - it is indeed the end of another era. Ground control can't contact Major Tom anymore and I'm saddened.

The end of yet another era - so sad

When I think of those long hot summers growing up, I think of David Bowie - such a magical man and musician. Makes me feel very sad to read that he has gone. RIP Starman.

A trailblazer! In terms of his music, performance and way of life.

I was fortunate enough to see Ziggy Stardust in concert many years ago, A true highlight of my life.
I was surprised to find a tear rolling down my cheek on hearing the news.
He was an iconic talented man, R.I.P.

Oh what a loss sad Loved his music ever since I heard the first strains of "ground control to Major Tom" and all the alter egos and reinventions what a breadth of work he produced. He was right up there with the greats and always at the cutting edge. RIP David

Devastated to hear the sad news that the Thin White Duke has died only 3 days after is 69th birthday.
He was my musical hero- never a day goes by when I don't play a Bowie track. Such a talented musician who could re-invent himself over & over to always bring something new.
I feel so privileged to have seen him play live several times & to have iived through his musical times.
My thoughts to his beautiful wife & family- he was a local lad- one of us.

'We can be Heroes- just for one day'

With love
