Devastated to hear the sad news that the Thin White Duke has died only 3 days after is 69th birthday.
He was my musical hero- never a day goes by when I don't play a Bowie track. Such a talented musician who could re-invent himself over & over to always bring something new.
I feel so privileged to have seen him play live several times & to have iived through his musical times.
My thoughts to his beautiful wife & family- he was a local lad- one of us.

'We can be Heroes- just for one day'

With love
H

Very sad news. Grew up with David Bowie - a talented man, sadly missed. I just can't get "Let's Dance" out of my head. RIP David. My thoughts are with his family x

Saw him perform at Murrayfield. Brilliant

My DS has been devastated all day. He came into my room to tell me which was a real shock.

He lead the way for people to just be themselves, which I loved, with his outragous style and wackiness but seemed a very private man in his personal life. I am so glad he died in his own bed, surrounded by people who loved him. We hear about the ones who are alone in hotel bedrooms and my heart lurches at such stories of their sadness.

Thank you David, for giving so much pleasure to generations, for enabling people to just be who they want to be, for inspiring new artists and talent, for not being a diva, for your gentle, kind demeanour. Now go and blast Heaven with our Freddie, you can sing Under Pressure together again. Goodnight, God Bless gentle man. Xxx

He trail blazed for a generation niggly. He was a musician, an actor, a writer, a poet, an artist, he touched so many people's lives. He deserves every single second of airtime. His death was managed with style and dignity, creative to the end. RIP David

nigglynellie Mon 11-Jan-16 20:52:15

It's sad when anyone dies, but to take up so much air time over an entertainer when babies are starving to death strikes me as excessive. FGS, surely this needs to be kept in proportion

Have you seen the video for Lazarus portiatrue? Steel yourself. A performance artist to the end....

portiatrue Mon 11-Jan-16 18:36:44

Heard the news at work on hospital reception early this morning from a patient. Couldn't believe it, felt so emotional, he was my idol from the age of 14. Just bought his new Black Star without even hearing it just to show support!

Not quite sure why BBC have just used 15 minutes of the 6-o-clock news to talk about him when there is so many other issues in the world.

Tegan Mon 11-Jan-16 18:09:05

I phoned my DD when I heard the news but she wasn't around. However, she phoned me this evening to say that she'd heard the news on the car radio on the way to work and had burst into tears. Not many people have that sort of effect on different generations of people. He was part of the soundtrack of my life; a one off.

Of course he will be remembered!

brenda35 Mon 11-Jan-16 16:13:16

I wonder if he will still be remembered in 50 years time, or forgotten like so many teen idols.

littleowl Mon 11-Jan-16 16:10:51

It is so sad. I have reached the age when my teenage heroes are now passing on. It is devastating. I cried this morning. So glad I kept my original Bowie vinyl. Would never sell it. He was part of my life.

angie95 Mon 11-Jan-16 15:11:52

So sad. He seemed to be immortal, such a big shock..

GrandmaB63 Mon 11-Jan-16 14:17:08

So sad - I loved David as he provided the background to my teenage years. And what a gentleman to the last - no sentimental "sharing" of his final surely painful months in public. He died surrounded by his nearest and dearest just how I think most of us would like to leave this world. RIP David Bowie.

grannyinmypocket Mon 11-Jan-16 12:26:54

My beautiful cat was called Ziggy Stardust, David Bowie was a unique genius, who's music was way ahead of its time, maybe he was a lad insane
that was part of his charisma, and added to his talent and many personas

Grandmapat1 Mon 11-Jan-16 11:57:21

He was indeed a true legend he altered the way people thought through both music and attitude and will be greatly missed.
Somehow You thought he would be there forever.
Cancer is a disease which sadly takes so many people whether well known or not if everyone around the world that wants to honour his memory gave just £1 to a cancer research organisation just think what a change that would make.

Willow500 Mon 11-Jan-16 11:53:08

Totally devastated - so many gone just recently but this seems such a shock.

Cosafina Mon 11-Jan-16 11:46:17

It was quite a blow to hear the news this morning - and for some reason it only occurred to me today that Aladdin Sane could be read as A Lad Insane - reckon he intended that?

TriciaF Mon 11-Jan-16 11:23:37

Strange, I was looking at his new album on youtube yesterday, so sad I couldn't watch it for long.
Very sad news.

oznan Mon 11-Jan-16 11:20:52

RIP David.I was hooked when I first heard Life on Mars. Our dog was called Ziggy and she used to run to the speaker when I played Ziggy Stardust!
I still have all the vinyl records and the track "Five Years" can make me cry even now.
A great talent and a great loss to the music world.

Kittycat Mon 11-Jan-16 11:17:01

Labyrinth! Daughter and I both go corr! when we see him in this film.
Born on same date as my brother, same year as my husband and came from where we lived when first married 40 years ago, Brixton. He will be missed.

grannyinmypocket Mon 11-Jan-16 11:15:52

Ziggy Stardust gone , He'll be remembered always , He will truly be the Prettiest Star in the Universe,

rocketstop Mon 11-Jan-16 11:01:21

I am in pieces.I have been a fan since I was twelve. I am not twelve any more. I am crying like I am twelve though.
I have seen him live, I went to see David Bowie IS in V and A in London, a huge chunk of my life has gone.
