Demolishing housing estates

Cameron want to demolish some housing estates , he said today he would not guarantee tenants would be rehoused in the new buildings he intends to build.

Where will the tenants be moved to and what houses will be built on the sites after demolishing the old houses !

Also he said it would help people out of poverty, how?

thatbags Sat 16-Jan-16 20:52:01

If you felt that squeamish.

thatbags Sat 16-Jan-16 20:51:17

Entire beds? Wouldn't new mattresses do?

Jalima Sat 16-Jan-16 20:46:01

Isn't No 10 fully furnished? shock

Mind you, I would want to buy new beds

thatbags Sat 16-Jan-16 20:44:29

ana has said the same thing in a different way. I do wish you wouldn't complain so much about perfectly reasonable things, dj.

thatbags Sat 16-Jan-16 20:43:32

I don't think it's unreasonable for a country to pay removal expenses for its first/prime minister while s/he is that. The current one is rich but if he hadn't been rich those expenses would still have been paid and are part of the system that enables democracy to work.

Ana Sat 16-Jan-16 20:39:57

Yes, durhamjen, just as we would pay for a PM of any stripe or colour's family furniture to be moved. Or is it only Tory PMs who claim such expenses? Can't see your point...

Jalima Sat 16-Jan-16 20:33:39

No 10 is a 'tied house' (provided as part of your job, as opposed to a 'tied pub')

durhamjen Sat 16-Jan-16 20:32:07

And I am sure he claimed removal expenses for moving all the family furniture into his new home. We paid for it.

Ana Sat 16-Jan-16 20:28:14

Cameron, like all PMs, is only living at number 10 temporarily.

I'm sure he considers the house where he and his family used to live before he was elected as PM as his 'home'.

durhamjen Sat 16-Jan-16 20:24:56

If we're being picky, the actual words were I own my home.
What is your home? The house you live in, not the house you own.
The house he owns is someone else's home at the moment for which privilege he has taken half a million in rent.

Has anyone actually looked at the parliament website and the register of financial interests. All they are asked for is if they have a property worth over £100,000 and get rents of over £10,000 for them.

Not many properties in this country worth less than £100,000, and certainly none in London. At least fifty per cent of those tory MPs have somewhere to rent out in London. They do not care that people who have to rent can live in slum conditions because there is no overall law to control landlords.

Ana Sat 16-Jan-16 19:50:57

Mind you, at least you're acknowledging that he said 'owns' and not 'lives in'...grin

Ana Sat 16-Jan-16 19:46:35

Oh fgs!

Anniebach Sat 16-Jan-16 19:45:55

Cameron owns more than one house so if he had been truthful he would have said - I own my houses, you own your house .

MamaCaz Sat 16-Jan-16 18:02:11

Oh, what a missed opportunity for Corbyn! If only he had foreseen Cameron's fairly predictable response to his question, and had an appropriate response at the ready!

Unfortunately, while Cameron seems to have a whole team preparing put-down answers to possible questions that he might be asked, Labour really don't seem to have got their act together in this regard.
There are (plenty of) times when I feel that some of us are better informed than they are and would do a better job of blowing Cameron's claims / put-downs out of the water. Whatever the reason for Labour's failings in this regard, it's a crying shame.

Ana Sat 16-Jan-16 17:54:54

Hmm...thought as much!

After all, we all know where he actually lives...hmm

rosesarered Sat 16-Jan-16 17:53:37

You are wrong djen Cameron actually said " You own your own house, I own my own house " etc. That puts a different connotation on it.

Ana Sat 16-Jan-16 17:50:37

Are you sure he didn't say he 'owned' his own house? That's obviously what he meant, and to accuse him of 'telling fibs' is nit-picking in the extreme!

Anniebach Sat 16-Jan-16 17:45:55

Nothing new there is there

durhamjen Sat 16-Jan-16 17:06:11

Glad to help, if it does, gillybob. I use it for potholes and lights not working properly. It makes interesting reading. Lots of flytipping, which is useful to tell them because the council cannot possibly go round everywhere. If you see a problem that you think your council could do something about, you just go on the site and see if anyone else has reported it and when.

Anyway, back to Cameron and his housing plans.
At PMQs he said in response to Corbyn that he lived in his own house, Corbyn lived in his, but wanted to deny the rest of the population the ability to own their own homes.
Cameron does not live in his own house. He has rented it out since he moved into Downing Street and has made over half a million in rent.
I am not suggesting he is a dodgy landlord, just that he was telling fibs.

gillybob Sat 16-Jan-16 13:52:35

Thank you for that link durhamjen I had no idea such a site existed.

durhamjen Sat 16-Jan-16 13:45:30

I wonder if reporting them yourself on www.fixmystreet.com would get anything done?
It's usually for things like fly-tipping and potholes, but you could report them for being parked and causing an obstruction.
Things on fixmystreet get sent to the council, and you will see if anything has been done about it.

gillybob Sat 16-Jan-16 13:30:49

You'd have to pay someone a hell of a lot nowadays to do a job like that, especially as a lot of people would probably tell him (and be well within their rights to do so) to fuck off and mind his own business

Apologies thatbags if I wrongly interpreted what you said to mean that tenants should be allowed to treat their property how they liked.

No probs Anniebach smile

Oh Durhamjen they could be running naked in the street dancing the Fandango and my dad wouldn't report them ! My dad (bless him) is one of those older men who moans and groans under his breath but does nothing about it. He is often angry (he has a hard life with my mums illnesses) at the world but basically just puts up with everything. The recent horrible time we had when my mum was sent home from hospital very ill and told to get her GP out just about sums my dad up. He was (as was I) hopping mad. But instead of complaining he just paces up and down and rants at the world in general.

durhamjen Sat 16-Jan-16 13:02:48

Gillybob, has your dad reported them?

Anniebach Sat 16-Jan-16 11:48:55

Sorry Gillybob, I did miss the last paragraph of your post

gillybob Sat 16-Jan-16 11:28:10

My parents live in a local authority bungalow Elegran. My parents are responsible for decoration and keeping the bungalow in a generally decent condition. This involves any minor repairs. The local authority are responsible for all other repairs. The roof, the structure, plumbing, heating, windows, doors etc. mind you the local authority are notoriously bad at carrying out repairs and quite often botch things up first time meaning that the eventual repair is bigger and more costly than it would have been had it been carried out correctly in the first place.

My parents live in a small cul-de-sac and my dad has noticed that the local authority "workers" use their corner to hide. There are often up to 4-5 vans with sleeping tradesmen in them. I don't know where they are supposed to be? Surely there must be someone checking up.
