Thanks for sharing, that is thought provoking.

I am recently re-married and we are both in our 50s. We rent. When we married my parents-in-law offered us a substantial sum for a deposit to get on the housing market ladder, but even going for a modest flat, at our ages we could only get a 16 year mortgage deal and the repayments were ridiculous - £1300 with insurances. So we rent and at the moment are fortunate to enjoy a lovely cottage just right for our needs. I guess it will be the next move we will have to worry about.

It was announced yesterday that the building of hundreds of social houses for the elderly and disabled has been abandoned by the government, too costly . They will continue with building to buy

I thought the house building for the elderly and disabled was being cut back by the housing associations because the changes that are to be made to housing benefit regime fails to take into account the extra rent these groups pay to cover the cost of the enhanced services they receive as a result of their disabilities.

Once again this government has been caught out because it didn't think its policies through properly before it announces them. It says the rules wern't meant to affect this group of people. They are now going back to look at the policy again.

We have never before had such an administratively inept government. It rows back from some policy or another almost every day because someone failed to look at it properly and realise the effect it would have on an interested party.

There is often talk about the rule of unexpected consequences, but this government cannot see the consequences of their policies even when they are jumping up and down in front of them waving a flag.

Yes MOnica that is my understanding too of the cancellations.
I vacillate between believing them to be entirely malicious and thinking there is a combination of malice and ineptitude at work.
One thing is certain, they are steering this country into a mess, in which only the richest people will thrive and they are doing so as rapidly as they can manage.
