I am fervently hoping this story isn't true. Is there anyone who wasn't behaving atrociously during this time? sad

NanKate Sun 13-Mar-16 19:06:12

I have been one of the many who are supporting Tony on his Facebook Tony Blackburn, Facebook Tony Blackburn Supporters Group and Facebook Radio 2 websites. There are about 5,000 of us beavering away.

I have never done anything like this before, but I am incensed at the BBC treating one of their longest serving DJs so badly, that I have signed his petition and am keeping up pressure on the BBC.

From the feedback on Facebook everyone is receiving an identical letter from the BeeB which rarely matches what has been said in the letter/email of complaint.

I have started to listen to Tony on KMFM Sunday afternoon 4 - 7.

I doubt Tony Hall will depart, but I am hoping that Tony B wins his Defamation of Character court case.

Hopefully some of the digital radio stations will employ Tony, but it will never be the same. sad

Very interesting article here on Tony Blackburn.

Good luck to anyone making a complaint to the BBC.

I have made one or two only to be completely fobbed off. They must have a whole department writing platitudes (they didn't even understand the content of my mail and took off in a completely different direction. I was so sickened, I didn't correct them and just gave up, which was probably their aim) day after day.

If anyone has received a coherent, pertinent reply, I'd love to know. They seem a law unto themselves (on our funding!). I used to think highly of the Beeb but have a very different opinion now.

I fail to see how, after all this time, the truth about allegations against TB could be accurate and with BBC obfuscation we will never know what really happened.

Some of the social media such as Facebook - Radio 2, radio Southern Counties, Tony Blackburn, Tony Blackburn Support Group etc have been deluged with complaints. I have added a few myself.

This is a situation that is not going away and needs to be dealt with soon.

Very unlikely Jalima. For one reason or another! grin

Lillie Sun 28-Feb-16 21:55:55

She was a comtemporary of mine at dance school, Ana, and all the mothers chatted together too.

Ana Sun 28-Feb-16 21:18:07

Where have you come across that information, Lillie? It's not something I've come across in any of the reports I've read.

Lillie Sun 28-Feb-16 21:12:56

Claire was besotted with TB and her mother always blamed him for her daughter's death. Claire herself couldn't live with the fact that TB wasn't interested in her but I have no idea whether that was after sleeping with her or maybe not.

Jalima Sun 28-Feb-16 20:03:42

Not that that would have been impossible, I hasten to add blush
but possibly unlikely

Jalima Sun 28-Feb-16 20:03:01

I did read somewhere that she had noted in her diary that she had also slept with Rock Hudson.
He was gay.

Ana Sun 28-Feb-16 19:14:30

Apparently the police won't release the copy of the diary that they have, and Mrs McAlpine (now deceased) kept the original. No one seems to know what happened to it.

FarNorth Sun 28-Feb-16 19:05:38

The BBC's version of events is "We asked TB about this 40 or so years ago and he flatly denied it. We believed him."
If that did happen, what possible reason could TB have for lying about it?

gettingonabit Sun 28-Feb-16 13:19:12

jingl did the programme mention the diary at all? I understand the diary went missing/wasn't made available and that the allegation about TB having seduced the girl was withdrawn by the girl's mother.

Is that right?

Alima Sun 28-Feb-16 10:11:06

I missed that, will listen later. I am glad you sound convinced jings, you normally call a spade a spade! If anyone wants to listen to him today he still has a show on. kmfm a Kent local radio station @ 16.00. It can be picked up online. His usual slot on BBC Berkshire was turned off by us. I will get a head start with some fence painting instead.

NanKate Sun 28-Feb-16 10:05:35

I heard it too Jing and TB came across as an honest, straightforward man, with a love of music and his job. He sounded so sad and broken.

IMO the BBC management are total ba*******ds.

jinglbellsfrocks Sun 28-Feb-16 09:50:46

Did anyone else hear Tony Blackburn on Radio 4's Broadcasting House just now? He sounded very convincing. I actually believe him. I don't think he was interviewed. One explanation being mooted for the memos is that others around him might have been interviewed on his behalf, without it ever being put in front of him himself.

Poor bloke sounds utterly devastated. He feels he should have been interviewed at the time. Not because of any doubt of his complete innocence, but, presumably, because he would have been given the opportunity to deny it.

The girl also wrote in her diary that she had slept with Frank Sinatra and Robert Mitchum, as well as Tony Blackburn.

gillybob Sat 27-Feb-16 23:09:23

Oh but they bloody well do jings ! Typical of JV too.

Ok so (assuming you are right, which I don't think you are, sorry) surely someone, within the not on my watch, govenor BBC should have recognized those songs to be completely and wholly irresponsible and inappropriate.

jinglbellsfrocks Sat 27-Feb-16 23:00:47

You are being over-sensitive. Sorry. smile

jinglbellsfrocks Sat 27-Feb-16 23:00:00

They do not pick the songs to suit - or not suit - the verbal content. And they just wouldn't be so deliberately crass.

gillybob Sat 27-Feb-16 22:56:53

Exactly Jalima !

And yes FarNorth it was very chilling.

TBH I couldn't believe what I was hearing. I contacted the program but (surprise suprise) haven't had a reply. Those songs were absolutely hand picked and they felt like the BBC were laughing at the victims.

Ana Sat 27-Feb-16 22:22:49

Yes, I saw that. He now says he was given the option of resigning so the BBC could 'bring him back after a few months' but he declined as it would be an admission of wrongdoing on his part.

gettingonabit Sat 27-Feb-16 22:15:43

Has anyone heard the interview in which he (TB) claims he was asked to resign?

According to him, he didn't do so as he felt he had nothing to hide. So he remains sacked. Mmm...curiouser and curiouser..

Jalima Sat 27-Feb-16 17:36:19

And we are all funding this lot angry

FarNorth Sat 27-Feb-16 17:29:55

That sounds chilling, gillybob.

gillybob Fri 26-Feb-16 23:28:54

Oh jings you should have listened to the people giving their very grueling accounts of that "man" , JS. I feel that the songs were (hand) chosen by the very same (kind of) people who condoned the behavior of this vile man. It was as though they were laughing in the face of the victims.
