The previous discussion on this got to 1000 posts so I'm starting a new thread so we can continue talking about it here. Here's a link to the previous thread.

Not pouches, Jalima? Tins are much more eco friendly, aren't they?

Jalima Tue 05-Apr-16 20:22:45

It's also pretty obvious to anybody with a brain bigger than a goldfish
The cat has a brain bigger than a goldfish but apparently has no idea about what is happening in the steel industry when I asked him.
I told him he should be ashamed of himself as his Felix comes in tins.

Daphnedil

You are a delight ' my dear'. No I don't earn commission

I did smile at your post of 16.00, well done you.

Ana Tue 05-Apr-16 19:40:50

^All the young people I know want to stay in.
I must mix with the right people.^

What a ridiculous opinion to post. dj thinks she must be right, and everyone who disagrees with her is, by definition, 'wrong'. How arrogant!

Jalima Tue 05-Apr-16 19:35:48

I must mix with the right people
Are you saying I mix with the wrong sort of people shock

It wasn't where I live (I have been away).
It was an eclectic mix of people (some I knew, some I didn't and asked on the off-chance!) and I was very surprised at the responses I must say.

All I would say about 35-50

rosesarered Tue 05-Apr-16 19:18:34

I don't know any young people except for our own children ( not that young anymore) and friends children ( all 35 to 40 though.)They are a mix of out and in.

durhamjen Tue 05-Apr-16 19:12:06

All the young people I know want to stay in.
I must mix with the right people.

rosesarered Tue 05-Apr-16 19:04:02

May depend on where you live and how old the young people are.Could be a big difference between 18 and 25 year olds.

whitewave Tue 05-Apr-16 19:02:19

Oh I have found just the opposite jalima

Jalima Tue 05-Apr-16 19:01:33

and yes, I do know it was not a representative number of younger voters but surprising nonetheless.

Jalima Tue 05-Apr-16 18:59:38

Yes, it has got a bit sidetracked.

I have been doing an informal poll of younger people I met during the last week (at the risk of sounding like an old bore smile) and was surprised that the majority of responses were either 'out' or 'undecided'.
I really thought the majority of under 50s would be voting to stay in.

rosesarered Tue 05-Apr-16 18:52:17

Yes Ana should be a whole new thread really.

rosesarered Tue 05-Apr-16 18:51:09

I think you should perhaps do some 'calming down' yourself daphnedill your posts sound angry and aggressive.
Different people have different points of view, room for all on a forum..... Or will I be receiving another unpleasant pm from you for daring to not agree with you?

Ana Tue 05-Apr-16 18:44:55

Why is a thread about how we're going to vote in the EU referendum now all about the Port Talbot steelworks? Wouldn't that have deserved a separate thread? confused

Jalima Tue 05-Apr-16 18:36:22

hmm

whitewave Tue 05-Apr-16 18:35:22

Well this morning on radio 4 he gave an interview in which he announced that he had just come back to the UK, had not given the Steel buy out any thought and had had no conversation with the government. Within a couple of hours or so that had changed to yes a buy out was possible and in depth conversation with the government had taken place. Now that is confusing!

Jalima Tue 05-Apr-16 18:19:26

I am confused there whitewave (been out of the loop, away for a few days!)

Where has Gupta been (not on holiday with me anyway), on holiday or away on business - because he lives in the UK and has done for most of his life apparently, although his business interests are here and abroad? And how come he hadn't given it any thought hmm

durhamjen Tue 05-Apr-16 16:55:25

What's he being offered?
Why can't they offer the same to a management buyout?

whitewave Tue 05-Apr-16 13:55:26

Gupta has just announced that he has had an in depth talk with the government and seems to think a purchase is on the cards! Well given that he only arrived in the Uk this morning and had not given it any thought, then I don't give much credence to the announcement. In depth talks? I don't think so. Ready to purchase - I don't think so - how can such a complicated take over be decided in a couple of hours? Good grief! Who is rattling his cage I wonder?

whitewave Tue 05-Apr-16 12:28:07

I suppose it could be purchased to be asset stripped. Probably what the Tories will allow to happen with a good explanation.

whitewave Tue 05-Apr-16 12:25:32

Listening to Gupta on the radio this morning he didn't even realise his name was in the frame until he arrived in the UK today! They have clearly not given the buy out any consideration whatsoever. Not sure I would touch it with a barge pole at £1m loss a day who would?

durhamjen Tue 05-Apr-16 12:19:17

Stop being so aggressive, niggly.

durhamjen Tue 05-Apr-16 12:18:35

Just said that Sanjeev Gupta is the only name in the frame. I thought that ThyssenKrupp was as well.

The Prime Minister has had productive talks about Port Talbot in Downing Street. So that's okay then. We can celebrate.

whitewave Tue 05-Apr-16 08:20:18

TATA will continue with steel making plants in other countries in the EU - it isn't in their interest to sell to a rival in the UK.

Javid is so behind the curve it is absolutely ridiculous.

nigglynellie Tue 05-Apr-16 07:42:42

No wonder nobody but the usual gang post on here anymore. You're all so rude and unpleasant to anyone with opposing views it's almost unbelievable. Judging from another thread some even consider themselves to be Christians!! Your hostility to certain posters on that particular thread, makes that claim just laughable!
What is it with you people that makes you aggressive to the.point of driving others away?!
