Susie Boniface (yes) versus Julie Burchill (no).

Oh give it a rest chaps. You are sailing very close to forum guidelines. Jokes about racial stereotypes are never acceptable these days.
Would you join a group of women having a serious discussion and start trying to lighten the mood with this kind of humour?

Anniebach Tue 15-Mar-16 09:24:04

The criminal world accompanies many industries

pompa Tue 15-Mar-16 09:19:18

AB, Ok I get that, subtle.

IMO, what is unacceptable about prostitution is the criminal world that accompanies it, primarily as a result of it being illegal.

Anniebach Tue 15-Mar-16 08:38:48

Did you not know pompa, Wales is not allowed to have her own laws, we have to obey England's laws.

Why is prostitution not acceptable?

Anya Tue 15-Mar-16 07:18:27

Of course it should be legalised.

Luckylegs9 Tue 15-Mar-16 06:27:25

Sorry, legalise.

Luckylegs9 Tue 15-Mar-16 06:26:54

If you legal use anything, you are giving the message out that this is acceptable.

pompa Mon 14-Mar-16 23:34:29

On the serious side, there certainly is a sector of the population that have an acceptable (IMO) reason for using prostitutes. Legalisation would provide them with a far safer option.

pompa Mon 14-Mar-16 23:28:08

"I live in a sheep farming county and have never heard of one arrest "
AB, is that because it's legal in Wales ?

Thought I'd take the flack off you for a while Grumpa ( I thought that joke was about Australians) Would never wish to upset the Welsh, too close to home. OUCH !!!

Anniebach Mon 14-Mar-16 19:50:43

I know a man who visits a prostitute , such a sad life with a domineering mother ,

Anniebach Mon 14-Mar-16 19:48:11

I live in a sheep farming county and have never heard of one arrest , there was the woman forced by her husband to be affectionate with their German shepard, but they were renting a house here for the summer , had to come back to Wales for the court case

petra Mon 14-Mar-16 19:47:52

Are some of you aware of how many disabled people use the services of prostitutes.

Jalima Mon 14-Mar-16 19:31:27

as you must know of someone who has or does partake in this pass time I will accept your word, myself I have never heard anyone admit to it
Not personally, anniebach, and I doubt that anyone would admit to it per se unless they thought they would get a lighter sentence.

Anniebach Mon 14-Mar-16 19:31:26

I know that Ism but as a post spoke only of men passing STD to their partners I thought it fair to mention there are female partners who do the sane

Iam64 Mon 14-Mar-16 19:23:07

No one is suggesting that women behave perfectly Anniebach - it's already been mentioned that women may use prostitutes and acknowledged their involvement in pimping/exploiting others, in some cases their own or other people's children.

Anniebach Mon 14-Mar-16 19:05:47

Yes men who visit prosititutes risk STD and passing it on to their partners, but there are women who have affairs resulting in STD and it is passed to their partner

Anniebach Mon 14-Mar-16 19:03:03

And my reply re old joke was light hearted too Grumppa

grumppa Mon 14-Mar-16 18:52:30

Having made a serious and I thought reasonable comment about the practical difficulties of legalisation, I made a lighthearted comment in response to Ab's lighthearted comment about the gossipy nature of market towns.

I wasn't suggesting that men's needs have to be met, but I thought it had been generally accepted on this thread that prostitution would continue, whether legalised or not.

And spare me the lecture about hanging around with us, Jessm; who is us exactly?

Anniebach Mon 14-Mar-16 18:45:02

I would hope not Ana, but obviously some do admit to it , Jamila is so sure

Ana Mon 14-Mar-16 18:43:19

Well, they wouldn't would they?

Anniebach Mon 14-Mar-16 18:35:46

Not a sheltered life Jamila, as you must know of someone who has or does partake in this pass time I will accept your word, myself I have never heard anyone admit to it

Jalima Mon 14-Mar-16 18:18:38

You shouldn't believe that very, very old joke about sheep Grumppa
Have you led a sheltered life, anniebach? hmm
I wouldn't say it's widespread but .....

JessM Mon 14-Mar-16 18:16:32

Absolutely - Grumppa if you're going to hang around with us you need to be a little more careful about who you might be offending. The Welsh can get sick to the back teeth about that kind of humour. (you know, like the Irish getting understandably fed up with jokes about thick Paddies?)
And as for "men's needs" well my heart is bleeding. Seems to me that prostitutes are used for entertainment purposes by many men. Nothing to do with need. They should masturbate on their own and not pay someone else to add variety to the activity IMO.
The World Cup in Germany highlighted the extent to which prostitution is seen as part of the leisure industry with women's bodies being the commodities.

Iam64 Mon 14-Mar-16 17:49:17

grumppa, are you suggesting that men's "needs" as you put it have to be met, either by prostitutes or dumb animals if they aren't being met elsewhere? The fact your post comes immediately before Devorgilla's post about the rights of the partners of men or women who use prostitutes is one of life's little ironies isn't it.

Prostitution isn't a victimless crime, much as many of us would like it to be. those of us who have helped pick up the pieces when the lives of sex workers lead to their children being neglected, exposed to stuff they shouldn't have to see or know about or worse, become embroiled into the sordid trade itself are more than well aware of that.

I apologise for not seeing the joke about men's needs and the use of animals to satisfy them.

Anniebach Mon 14-Mar-16 17:02:34

You baited Grumppa ? Not kind surely
