Excellent fund raising idea for us Grans - film ourselves cavorting in our far from scanties in easily recognised posh hotels and blackmail the owners to pay up or else we'll put the pics up on the internet! grin

Or not of

If the film had been of me, they would be paying $38 million to have it removed from the site of have it filmed in soft focus......very soft focus.

It's not the money, it's the total invasion of privacy. If she had stripped off on a beach and someone had sneaked a photo that's fair play but to be filmed naked in a hotel room by some pervert deliberately is totally wrong. It needs to be a huge sum to make hotels more aware and to put off others who think they have the right to do this. As kaybh says, she won't get the money as the stalker hasn't got any.

fair play, to be filmed nude and put on the internet is vile by a stalker,
I'm none of us would like that.

In my opinion there's far too much political correctness smile Alea

Alea. Loved that.

He can film me any time he likes for that amount of moneygrin . However, I think I'd probably have to pay him as it would not be suitable for those of a sensitive disposition.
Oh and wide screen of course grin

I can't agree with youKaybh I still think $6 million is too much.

I think the only statement that verdict makes is we live in a litigious world and where there's blame there's a claim.

kaybh Tue 08-Mar-16 13:41:33

also, it's really not as much as that figure leads you to believe since she'll never get any money from the filthy pervert who took and distributed the video on the internet. the other half will apparently come from the hotel she was staying in. from that half, the lawyers will take their (hefty) sum, then she'll be taxed on it, since there's been no physical injury. i read that she'll actually get something like $6m in the end.

kaybh Tue 08-Mar-16 13:13:43

no, i think it's almost landmark really. the sexism that women face in her line of work is already terrible, but I think this verdict makes a statement - that this treatment of women will not be tolerated. It's a sex crime and has been treated as such. Good, imho

I agree totally * Charleygirl*

I personally think that the amount is obscene. Some dosh, maybe but not that amount.

I'm sure this woman was traumatised , it was a horrible thing to happen to her - but to be awarded $38 million for it? Isn't that a little over the top?

Im struggling to see it - so maybe someone has a view that Im not seeing?
