In light of International Women's Day, I thought I'd share this brilliant article documenting how women in various countries around the world have made such important things happen by using the powers of technology.

So inspiring!

Yes, incredible things they've done. And while I have every respect for them, I can't help but think that international women's day could be better used to highlight the violence and danger many women face every day across the globe. I hear about so many injustices every day that it just makes me so angry. of course that's not to say we can't celebrate the women doing incredible things, of course we can and should - but what about highlighting equality between the sexes? i think something of this kind should actually be taught in schools

And let's celebrate ourselves, our daughters and granddaughters and all the "ordinary" women out there who are so special.

I've taken part in the Reclaim The Night march before, and helped to organise it last year. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to be happening here this year as I'm not up to organising it by myself.

@Mary, Reclaim the Night happens every year in London on around 25th November. There are many other local ones, perhaps that's what you can't find yet.

There was a brilliant International Women's Day march through London on Saturday, the annual Million Women Rise. It it the most racially mixed march of all the ones I go on and is truly International. I'm still editing my videos and will put a note up here when they are ready.

WHY wasn't this in the news?????

petra Tue 08-Mar-16 16:14:05

AlieOxen. It was. Anny Lenox gave a speech.

I missed it then. Pity.
All I have seen about Women's Day so far is a women's sports news which unfortunately had to start with Sharapova failing a drugs test................

petra Tue 08-Mar-16 19:50:32

On the news again right now.

AlieOxon Tue 08-Mar-16 20:21:55

Missed it again. But found a lot on the internet ITV news.....not on BBC which I watch!

Keeping the picture of her on the march.

@Pamish, I'm in Oxford and it looks as if we will try to have a march later in the year. If we do I intend to walk with the minority people this year. I have friends in the BME community and I will carry the Blue/Pink/White/Pink/Blue flag.

I thought this was funny - it was on Facebook yesterday. 'Today is International Women's Day. It should have been yesterday but they took a long time getting ready.'
