Regional elections in Germany today. Will be interesting to see what the German people have to say on Angela Merkels policies.

Who are the 'we' who don't acknowledge our past, except for our battles won? Magna Carta got plenty of coverage last year, and Shakespeare looks set fair to get the odd mention in 2016.

Anniebach Thu 17-Mar-16 09:39:06

The U.K. is four countries each with their own identity . Germany acknowledges it past we do not unless it's to celebrate some battle we won

Iam64 Thu 17-Mar-16 09:35:38

Yes grumps, it's always good to challenge our own stereotypes. I've only been to one German city, Berlin. I was impressed by the Cosmo feel but especially by the way it's complex history is honestly commemorated

grumppa Thu 17-Mar-16 09:13:17

Do you have similar reservations about the UK, TriciaF? We have been one country since 1707, but there are still signs of the separate identities that compose it.

The important thing is not to have unjustifiable reservations about the Germans.

TriciaF Thu 17-Mar-16 08:55:54

Blue-eyed Germans: Hitler tried to breed a "master race" of fair haired blue eyed people. Aryans. And get rid of those who don't conform, or give them less important jobs.
Is that what you're getting at Petra?
I have many reservations about Germany. In the first place it has only been a nation for about 150 years and I believe there are still signs of the separate identities of the countries that compose it.

Anniebach Thu 17-Mar-16 08:37:50

Petra, please do not speak for me, It is rather ill mannered of you. I accept you truely believe you know all but this is not so sorry

Iam, no I am not saying that

petra Thu 17-Mar-16 07:19:39

Iam64. Yes she is. What's worse, there have been children that have been attacked. So she's calling them liers.

Iam64 Wed 16-Mar-16 20:31:18

Are you suggesting the reports of sexual offences committed by asylum seekers/economic migrants are being made up by the right Anniebach?

Anniebach Wed 16-Mar-16 20:12:09

Is it coincidence the sexual attacks increased in numbers by alleged victims after the initial attacks on New Year's Eve , it's a good move by the AFD is it not if they chose to use it

petra Wed 16-Mar-16 18:58:17

MargaretX. Is it a coincidence that Germany are changing their rape laws ?

Anniebach Wed 16-Mar-16 16:50:59

Petra, as you are pondering on what would happen if there were more brown eyed men than blue eyed men in Germany I am grateful I am not on your planet

How many blue eyed men in Germany?

POGS Wed 16-Mar-16 15:40:06

What /which points raised by posters do you disagree with Margaret X for you to think we are fooled?

petra Wed 16-Mar-16 15:38:26

MargaretX. I can tell that you love your country, and quiet rightly so, you have something to be proud of. I've visited Germany many times, the last time, last year.
But what if those brown eyed men out numbered your blue eyed men?

MargaretX Wed 16-Mar-16 15:22:58

You all have been taken in with the protest rallies. Believing what Der Spiegel says. A lot of what i read about Germany convinces me that most peole here from the UK or the US just aren't fluent enough to pick up the real truth. You get an article from the Russian-Germans stating that they are scared for their wives and daughters!. I know that more Russians are abusers of women than these refugees are.
They are having a field day with there protests and due to them we have lost one of the best representatives in the Stuttgart parliament that we ever had. The AFD people are only AGAINST. They are not FOR anything. i don't know how that is going to solve any problems.
My father in law always said in the 1970s 'Der Russ kommt!' he meant the threat from East Germany and I joked with my husband this morning that his father was right but that Der Russ has come but not how he thought he would.
They got most protest votes in areas where the Russians with a German grandfather had come over and settled here. Some say they only had a Deutsche Schäferhund(Alsation dog)
I did hear the other day that the Russians are leaving Baden-Baden so maybe they will return to where they came from.
One thing is certain, Germany has many who do not wish her well but for the most of us we like it here and don't feel frightened of a few brown eyed young men we see on the streets, my own daugter works with a group of refugees. We are kind hearted people. But nobody writes an article about us -who would read it?
