Quite honestly, imo it is all a mess. The welfare (and taxation) systems became more complicated under Labour and are even more complicated now, therefore subject to misinterpretation. The kind of system where someone who djen mentions can have their car taken away is the same system which allowed someone I know to have another new Motability car to the astonishment of us and all our neighbours.
And why should someone who is well able to afford to buy and run a car (better off than many other people struggling to make ends meet and having to run a car to get to work - I am thinking of this person in particular, not cases in general) be given one by the taxpayer?
She cannot be the only one.
The system does need a huge shake-up - money going to people who may not need it is less money for those vulnerable people mentioned in posts above.
