Don't be fooled luckylegs even the right-wing commentators are agreeing it is about the EU - he has thrown a missile into the stay camp hoping to destroy Osborne and scupper Cameron.

Anniebach Sat 19-Mar-16 10:08:44

He didn't say he was resigning because of the EU, he resigned because his plans to cause more suffering to the most vulnerable was meeting with discontent within his own party, where is his ecourage of convictions ? He has no principles

durhamjen Sat 19-Mar-16 10:09:47

More than 80 suicide cases directly linked to cuts in benefits, including sanctions, since 2010.
No wonder IDS did not want to publish the papers.

Lazigirl Sat 19-Mar-16 10:12:06

Annieb. by their deeds ye shall know them. As an unbeliever I'm beginning to think there is a god after all.

durhamjen Sat 19-Mar-16 10:14:29

www.blacktrianglecampaign.org for confirmation, luckylegs.

Anniebach Sat 19-Mar-16 10:19:24

Stephen Crabb has the job

Anniebach Sat 19-Mar-16 10:21:05

Spot on Lazigirl smile

whitewave Sat 19-Mar-16 10:27:12

What's he like annie?

I'm tottering in and out of the garden planting roses - it is bloody cold here.

Anniebach Sat 19-Mar-16 10:49:50

Born in Scotland, brought up in Wales in a one parent family household, is Secretary of State for Wales and apart from his constituency no one takes any interest in him . Not even chosen to lead the Welsh tories .

Anniebach Sat 19-Mar-16 10:51:41

And it's bloody cold in this part of Wales too whitewave , I have ordered shrubs and hope there will be no rush to deliver them

whitewave Sat 19-Mar-16 10:57:44

Oh a sparkling addition then!

Anniebach Sat 19-Mar-16 11:15:05

Well, he led the Tory campaign in Wales at the last election, I campaigned in Carmathern, Pembroke, Glamorgan, Monmouth , Brecon and Radnor and can't recall anyone mentioning his name . Be interesting to see how he will manage this new job, brought up on a council estate, mother on benefits,

Memo to self, ring friend to see what weather is like in Pembroke grin

Ceesnan Sat 19-Mar-16 11:29:03

I have just read the most ridiculous remark "his convictions made people commit suicide". B******s!! No one is "made" to commit suicide, they choose to do it. Choose your phrases more carefully please durhamjen - and I speak as someone who has had two close family members decided on that way to end their lives

www.theregister.co.uk/2016/03/16/universal_credit_internal_reviews_disclosure_order/

I am sorry about that, Ceesnan.
Was it because they had no money left to live on because of the cuts that IDS seemed to be pleased about until yesterday?

I speak as someone with two family members who tried to commit suicide but were found in time.

durhamjen Sat 19-Mar-16 12:11:14

Just heard Jeremy Corbyn say that he wonders where IDS' conscience has been over the past six years.

JessM Sat 19-Mar-16 12:12:51

Oh we'll get a different Sec of State for Wales then.
The IDS job is one of those "let this cup.." jobs methinks.

nigglynellie Sat 19-Mar-16 12:12:55

That's profound!!!!!!!!

obieone Sat 19-Mar-16 12:17:03

When you work in such a large team as a Cabinet, for whichever party, you are one voice of about 20.

Anniebach Sat 19-Mar-16 12:49:07

Suicide is a choice , a choice made when driven to make this so called choice

What a difference three days make.

durhamjen Sat 19-Mar-16 12:58:18

Do you think they tossed up for it, Jess?
Crabb lost.

Ceesnan Sat 19-Mar-16 14:34:02

I think the reasons for my relatives suicides are personal durhamjen not for discussion on a forum and the only reason I mentioned them is that you declared that Ian Duncan Smith was making people commit suicide.

durhamjen Sat 19-Mar-16 14:42:49

www.disabilitynewsservice.com/dwp-dismissed-coroners-concerns-over-wca-suicide-link-document-reveals/

I think that's one of the reasons he resigned, Ceesnan, not that he would put that reason in his letter of resignation.
You are entitled to think differently.

I did not expect you to put the reasons on here. I did expect you to think that some people might have been driven to suicide because of the DWP stance, not to just dismiss it out of hand.
I assume you believe coroners.

NotTooOld Sat 19-Mar-16 14:51:31

I think IDS is basically a decent man and it appears from his resignation letter that he WAS forced into some of the cuts. I'm surprised he's resigned but, like others, suspect it is a successful attempt to cast another cat amongst the EU pigeons. Daphne is right about Nicky Morgan having strings. They were very visible on Question Time last Thursday where she was confidently upstaged by Emily Thornberry.
