People must be judged by their deeds not their words.

whitewave Sun 20-Mar-16 09:57:03

Politicians are consummate actors.

It was funny whitewave . Am listening to IDS now, is he speaking the truth or up for an Oscar

whitewave Sun 20-Mar-16 09:51:59

Love the Ant and Dec analogy!

Mind you not difficult to dish Giddy, did anyone see Laws explanation of the lies told by the Tories pre-election and the money needed by the NHS? They - Gids and DC - leant on the NHS chap (his name escapes me) who is one of most respected public figures. He had come up with a figure of approx 30bn over the period of this government. He reckon half of it could be achieved through efficiency, leaving 15bn to keep the NHS on a stable footing. Giddy simply refused to accept the figure and forced the figure down to a more acceptable (to Giddy) 8bn. This figure bears absolutely no relation to reality, and is a lie.

To achieve this 8bn will seriously undermine the quality and progress of the NHS.

He was registered and baptised Gideon, he made the decision to change his name to George by deed poll.

Wonder when IDS visited the estate and had the alleged Damascus moment

thatbags Sun 20-Mar-16 09:40:09

But I'll still think of IDS as GIDS from now on.

thatbags Sun 20-Mar-16 09:39:29

Gideon Oliver Osborne, GOO for short.

whitewave Sun 20-Mar-16 09:38:45

IDS is on Marr busy saying what a good and compassionate chap he is. At the same time dishing Gideon and Cameron.

whitewave Sun 20-Mar-16 09:37:26

Gideon is the name his parents gave him.

thatbags Sun 20-Mar-16 09:33:18

I think you're right about Osborne's name, jess. Confused of Argyll is me!

JessM Sun 20-Mar-16 09:16:25

Isn't Gideon George Osborne's real name?
I think they run special mocking classes in schools like Eton. It's frowned on in the state sector and would count as bullying/harrassment/disruptive behaviour. They would be excluded from a state school if they behaved as they do in PMQs

thatbags Sun 20-Mar-16 09:06:02

According to Adam Boulton in the Sunday Times today, IDS (or GIDS, as Boulton calls him because his first name is George; so that's where Gideon comes from!) experienced what Boulton calls "a Damascene conversion" after a visit to the deprived Easterhouse estate in Glasgow. Apparently it was after that visit that GIDS "reinvented himself" and founded the Centre for Social Justice.

If this is true, then maybe the resignation isn't all that out of character after all.

Other comments in the same newspaper reckon this has given Boris a clear run for the Tory leadership, and subsequently prime ministership!

Time will tell.

Anniebach Sun 20-Mar-16 08:53:00

Must be one or both

obieone Sun 20-Mar-16 08:50:02

Could also be both or neither.

Anniebach Sun 20-Mar-16 08:42:49

I had thought the Tory supports here would share their views on this, who is telling lies, Cameron or IDS

radicalnan Sun 20-Mar-16 07:43:39

I am delighted to see the back of him. It is a bit rich to be claiming principles of any sort when you eat a £39 breakfast and claim it of expenses.

He is part of the Brexit group and just lining himself up for a future government position if that happens.

They are as loathsome a bunch of incompetents as you could find if you hand picked each one of them.

There is potential for court action being taken against this government for its treatment of vulnerable people he has bailed out before the tish hits the fan.

He may have left his job but he still has blood on his hands for the many disabled people who have died on his watch.good riddance.

Tories always have a good lin e in mock, a certain type of Tory appears to be born with the mock gene.

Anniebach Sat 19-Mar-16 23:26:36

And the mocking of Corbyn for being an honest man who stands by his beliefs and continues to apply them no matter how much flack he gets from the Tory press

whitewave Sat 19-Mar-16 23:15:57

The remain camp is busy trying to rescue something from this sorry mess. It will be so interesting to see how it all unfolds over the coming weeks. Gideon desperately trying to shore up his leadership bid.
Johnson blithering away on the sidelines hoping he doesn't come under any fire. Gove trying to remember where the title deeds to all the L.A. owned property is, and hoping nobody takes him to court, in the meantime telling everyone he is their friend.

durhamjen Sat 19-Mar-16 23:07:54

Have you listened to Roz Altmann's statement about how difficult it was to work with IDS?
That's another knife in his back.

Anniebach Sat 19-Mar-16 23:06:07

I think the tories can now apply their mantra to themselves - oh s***, we are all in this together grin

durhamjen Sat 19-Mar-16 23:03:46

www.centreforsocialjustice.org.uk/about-us/history

Set up by IDS in 2004. He has been working on benefit reduction since then. He calls it people taking responsibility for their own actions.
Perhaps that's what he is doing at last; or perhaps not. Perhaps he is running away from the consequences of his actions.

whitewave Sat 19-Mar-16 23:01:36

Little Gove is batting for both sides
, with friends like that etc.

whitewave Sat 19-Mar-16 23:00:04

One thing for sure he wont be the next Tory leader.

The field is narrowing - Johnson would be a bit of own goal though - still it doesn't worry me.
