We can't possibly let this slip by!

Tory on Radio 4 this morning arguing that we can't tackle the "treasure islands" that we have sovereignty over as it will lose people jobs!
I was astounded. So it is fine for the Steel workers to face penury but not those who help the wealthy to hide their money.

DC implicated - won't be long before GO is mentioned.

durhamjen Sun 10-Apr-16 16:52:14

Channel four asked all 21 cabinet members if they had offshore interests.
Three replied no. The other 18 haven't answered.

Too busy moving their money, obviously, all arranged by Cameron or his dad.

durhamjen Sun 10-Apr-16 16:45:02

Why on earth would I read the DM, unless pointed to aspecific article by someone I agree with?

petra Sun 10-Apr-16 16:41:43

durhamjen If you had been reading the DM as long as I have you would know that they have never been a fan of DC.

whitewave Sun 10-Apr-16 16:39:59

dj the daily mail has at least two agendas. The first is to get out of the EU - its owner of course lives off shore. They want to rubbish Cameron as a result
The second is that there is a large element in the Tory party who hate Cameron. They tend to be the newer intake with no culture of what used to be the original one nation Tory, Cameron of course is somewhat from this tradition. The daily mail is on the newer lots side it has no sympathy with the older type of Tory. They want to get rid of Cameron entirely. They were the ones he tried to appease in the referendum - another poor judgement.

Anniebach Sun 10-Apr-16 16:36:09

It cannot be said they have done nothing wrong until the complete truth is told

nigglynellie Sun 10-Apr-16 16:28:41

But still have to have admit neither he nor his family have done anything wrong.

durhamjen Sun 10-Apr-16 16:01:46

Just been reading the article in the DM. Quite aggressive. I think they've gone off Cameron.

"In 3 days the European Parliament will be voting on a law that could silence whistleblowers. MEPs have come under pressure by multinational companies and important players in their party but they also listen to us. Those who vote for them.

If tens of thousands of us let the key power players know in a very public way how we want them to vote, then we have a chance to sway positions.

Tweet now to an MEP and let them know that they need to vote against this law.

If you’re not on twitter, you can still take action and directly email one of the MEPs whose vote is key: Use your own words to tell British Tory MEP Syed Kamall ([email protected]) why he should vote against this law -- the more personalised you make it, the more it will have an impact.

The revelations of the Panama Papers rocked the world, no doubt. But just as surprised as we were, you can bet those involved directly in the scandal were too. It is thanks to those brave people who leaked the Panama Papers for the common good that the ruling elite now know they are not untouchable. And we owe it to those brave people who acted in defence of our rights to act in defence of theirs. A new legislation facilitating lawsuits against them is the last thing they need.

Winchester Cathedral.... Your'e bringing me doooown, remember that from the 60's? quite a good song, I will have it in my head all day now.

whitewave Sun 10-Apr-16 14:51:13

I used to work in Winchester sometimes. Bloody awful place for parking. Quite nice otherwise.

durhamjen Sun 10-Apr-16 14:47:32

I don't need to. I have seen what he has put out through his accountant.
It is not the whole story. He has paid some taxes.
There are still lots of questions that ethically minded tax experts are asking.
I can be patient and wait for the next instalment.

Actually where I live in Durham is quite leafy, thankyou.
I have lived in Hampshire. Winchester is just as classy as the Cotswolds.
Perhaps you ought to visit the Durham Dales.

rosesarered Sun 10-Apr-16 14:20:37

djen you are becoming tedious with all this ' you must be his Mother/family ' stuff, do you know how many people live in Oxfordshire btw other than myself and Cameron?grin
Of course, I had forgotten that it was considered a crime by Socialists to live anywhere leafy and nice like the Cotswolds and surrounding area.
Various financial bods on tv have stated his tax affairs are all in order, but perhaps you should pay a visit to Downing Street and demand to see them?

whitewave Sun 10-Apr-16 14:11:47

Telegraph and Daily Mail have a lot to say about Cameron that is derogatory. Blimey I am in a very peculiar position finding myself agreeing with them. But and it is a big but, my agenda is totally different from theirs.

It wasn't done and dusted as even he understands how it looks to the poor who are suffering and the middle class who are paying. So he fiddled around much like he has in the past hoping it would go away as it did in the past. But this is too big even for Cameron.

He is unfortunate as he is one of millions able to take advantage of not paying your fair share of tax because of the avoidance techniques he has adopted and he is the PM who sits residing over all this avoidance which he has himself has said it is morally repugnant. Hypocrisy is one of the big irritants to the UK public.

durhamjen Sun 10-Apr-16 14:09:48

"Sleaze", roses. I await my day in court.

How do you know Cameron has paid all his taxes?
You must be one of the family. You can't get away from it.
I notice he hasn't said anything about his house in Oxfordshire, with his lovely neighbours. Hope he's not claiming expenses on that.

I do hope Blairmore have not been involved in money-laundering.
Cameron is setting up a commission to find out.

rosesarered Sun 10-Apr-16 14:01:38

I agree with you grumppa that Cameron handled it badly, it could all have been done and dusted days ago.

rosesarered Sun 10-Apr-16 13:57:47

Hardly 'sleaze' djen don't get carried away... ( by the courts for libel.grin)
obieone you are correct, Cameron has done nothing wrong and has paid all his taxes, it's a hysterical storm in a teacup, but globally some of these firms are no more than money laundering schemes for criminals and dictators who really do have ill gotten gains. So, yes, they do need looking at.

durhamjen Sun 10-Apr-16 13:47:31

I read that as well, Obieone. Do you mean the velcro one?

It depends on which financial people you read, Obieone.

www.taxresearch.org.uk/Blog/2016/04/10/david-camerons-tax-disclosure-a-story-but-maybe-not-the-whole-one/

The comments on that blog are very interesting.

Like we have been saying on here all along, illegal is not the same as immoral.
Saying that he is immensely proud of everything his dad has done is not the right way to go about rehabilitating himself.

obieone Sun 10-Apr-16 13:36:11

I am going to start a thread on that whitewave.
I was thinking too anyway after reading a Katie Hopkins article.

Anniebach Sun 10-Apr-16 13:34:54

From what has been seen - what has not been seen is the big question

Anniebach Sun 10-Apr-16 13:32:56

They are far more likely to be Tory MP's ?

obieone Sun 10-Apr-16 13:32:48

All the financial people are saying that, from what has been seen, he has done nothing wrong.
So this may well all be a storm in a teacup.

Tax havens, globally is an issue.

whitewave Sun 10-Apr-16 13:27:40

What is so special about a rich MP?

durhamjen Sun 10-Apr-16 13:18:33

It's interesting to see all the other Tory excuses for not putting their tax returns online.
Amber Rudd says it would prevent rich people from wanting to become MPs.
I see that as a good thing. There are enough rich people in the commons already.

gettingonabit Sun 10-Apr-16 12:54:36

niggly I didn't say I thought Dave had done anything illegal.

As for HMRC getting on people's backs? They certainly got on mine last year, even though I owed them precisely nothing.

If you're a nurse, a cleaner, a teacher, or any other worker going about your business there's no way you're going to get away with not paying the tax you (rightfully) owe.

Why should Cameron be beyond scrutiny? Any tax avoided -akbeit "legitimately" hmm is money that is not going into the coffers for the benefit of the country.

whitewave Sun 10-Apr-16 12:52:56

Cameron has a good line in mock, not very keen when it returned though
