I come and go on Gransnet and have just returned after a break to find some really interesting topics. durhamjen is so up there with all the facts and must do such a lot of reading. She knows just how to put her finger on relevant information which is very useful to us all on here. She's evidently a driven woman - ideal for the above post. whitewave would make an admirable deputy.

Can I claim my new dress on expenses please? It is nice and will look great on TV.

Jalima Fri 08-Apr-16 13:46:03

Who are the back b enchers - I think we will need a very firm whip to keep some of them in order.
whitewave see other thread about whether or not a 4 year old should be able to whip their own bottom.
Should it be a requirement for all us new MPSs do you think?

Jane10 Fri 08-Apr-16 13:06:45

Money will always talk though. If only life was so straightforward that everyone just paid their dues. The really wealthy will always find ways to stash it. Cynical? Moi?

Anniebach Fri 08-Apr-16 09:48:07

Best hang on until you find which party is the favourite for oversea tax dodgers , so far you have the choice of Tory and UKIP, but who knows what else will be revealed

whitewave Fri 08-Apr-16 09:45:57

Ah but we are coming to get you!

Jane10 Fri 08-Apr-16 09:43:16

Whoever will make me Lady Jane is fine by me. All my dosh is safely tied up overseas so it doesn't really matter to me who's nominally in power. wink

Anniebach Fri 08-Apr-16 08:55:48

Are you undecided Jane?

Jane10 Fri 08-Apr-16 07:59:37

Who do I make the cheque payable to?

Anniebach Thu 07-Apr-16 23:41:22

To be sure of a peerage just donate lots of money

whitewave Thu 07-Apr-16 22:27:51

Who are the back b enchers - I think we will need a very firm whip to keep some of them in order. That or a promise of a peerage or something.

whitewave Thu 07-Apr-16 22:21:37

Sorry ma'am. Almost forgot myself for a minute

Ana Thu 07-Apr-16 22:21:08

No. In fact, you can't even claim for a first one - surely you didn't go into politics for the perks? shock

durhamjen Thu 07-Apr-16 22:20:21

Now, now, whitewave.
We are going to behave in our parliament. No scandals
Wherever it is, we will build or buy a Premier Inn type place, so all MPs have a reasonable room to sleep in close to the parliament building.
No expenses scandals for us.

whitewave Thu 07-Apr-16 22:03:12

Can I now claim for a second house please?

Jalima Thu 07-Apr-16 21:56:41

OK, nominated
Order Order!!

daphnedill Thu 07-Apr-16 21:48:49

I want to be Speaker.

Jane10 Thu 07-Apr-16 21:43:28

Hmmmm. Interesting plan but would that mean DH would have to be SirDH?

Jalima Thu 07-Apr-16 21:24:19

Yes, that thought did cross my mind Ana

Ana Thu 07-Apr-16 21:04:34

The abolition of the House of Lords will probably be a priority for this new regime! You could just change your name by deed poll, Jane - they can't touch you for that...wink

Jalima Thu 07-Apr-16 21:00:31

Correction - or the House of Lords and Baronesses!

Jalima Thu 07-Apr-16 20:59:55

You can be who or whatever you like Jane10

(on this thread, anyway grin)

ps why isn't it the House of Lords and Ladies or the House of Lords. And why are the female Lords called Baronesses if a Baron is lower in rank than a Lord? hmm
Anyone know?

Jane10 Thu 07-Apr-16 20:55:13

Can I be in the House of Lords? I've always secretly wanted to be LadyJane!
No? Thought not sad

Jalima Thu 07-Apr-16 20:54:01

(Samworth/Ginsters) in Melton Mowbray?

I do hope they are not trying to pass off Leicestershire pasties as Cornish shock

We can't have that - I vote myself in as Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs!
No tax, I promise

NotTooOld Thu 07-Apr-16 19:35:14

Oh, perhaps that should be 'hear, hear'.

NotTooOld Thu 07-Apr-16 19:34:45

Here, here. Motion passed.
