I've only just seen UK's entry and it's not bad! Obviously not the kind of thing I would choose to listen to but very mainstream and I reckon if this was released generally it would do very well.

Wot a lot of miserable meanies! I love Eurovision!

My parents were on the judging panel when the competition began (they went off in their evening dress - so like now......!) so the programme became an annual event in our household and I have loved it ever since.

Tonight's presentation has been excellent and the presenter's spoof Eurovision song was an absolute hoot. Watch it! (Try about 2 hours 35 minutes in from the beginning). The two sketches that follow are also very funny. Try them......

Anyway, it's obviously horses for courses and some do, some don't but we will always love Eurovision and long may it continue!

I did wonder, Hooty, how you'd heard it before it was on! I thought I must have nodded off. I have it on the radio, sad person that I am, while I'm sorting out my Summer clothes upstairs. Ken Bruce hasn't been as entertaining as I thought he would be.

...there's a lot of money going on Spain....and other people are putting money on Bulgaria as well, so it's not just me....

Tegan Sat 14-May-16 22:32:48

..have also had a bet on Germany at 200/1 although I think I'm the only person in Europe who likes it [and that includes the Germans]....

Tegan Sat 14-May-16 22:31:16

It's a fascinating period of time anno although no matter how much I read about it I still get everyone mixed up [apart from Richard].

I'm watching The Wars of the Roses, Henry VI part 2. Quite bloody but interesting as I've never read or seen it.

HootyMcOwlface Sat 14-May-16 22:18:25

Well I feel bit of a twit now, i've been led up the garden path by cruel children, the song I liked and thought was ours isn't at all! How mean is that! confused We have no chance, ours was pretty bland (again!) Sweden will win!

Tegan Sat 14-May-16 22:10:55

I've just had 2p ew on Bulgaria as I quite liked it. I know a lot of people were betting on Australia last week but I haven't heard the song.

Tegan Sat 14-May-16 21:34:07

Russia will surely win....

grannyactivist Sat 14-May-16 21:16:51

By the way, it's ten fifteen here and still daylight. smile

grannyactivist Sat 14-May-16 21:15:44

I'm watching it from Norway with Norwegian friends for whom it's an annual highlight and family affair. When I'm wilting under the onslaught I simply look out of the window to the magnificent view and it's worth it.

HootyMcOwlface Sat 14-May-16 21:14:50

Well I've just heard the UK entry, not heard it before, and was pleasantly surprised! I liked it! Up to song 15 in the show now, and I think ours is the best so far. We won't win though as the scoring is a joke, everyone just votes for their neighbours, and they all hate us so we get few votes. Well, that is my opinion! We will see.hmm

Big NO for me. I am watching the Tennis from Rome. Novak D and K Nishikori excellent match.

TBH I may watch the last 10 mins of the EC to see who won grin

jogginggirl Sat 14-May-16 20:49:17

Ha ha Charleygirl - I've just finished some painting and now I'm sitting watching Eurovision ... LOL grin Not sure which I prefer ....

merlotgran Sat 14-May-16 20:40:47

Apparently, because we're one of the 'big five' who put the most money into this bilge, we don't have to go through the qualifying process.

Can't we just save the money and get knocked out in the qualifiers so we won't come last because nobody likes us?

wot Sat 14-May-16 20:17:07

Absolute bilge!!

Greyduster Sat 14-May-16 17:01:44

Absolutely not; I honestly don't know why we bother, it's such a farce. Thank God for "The Hollow Crown". Blood guts and Shakespeare - what's not to like?

sunseeker Sat 14-May-16 16:36:29

Not a chance. I'm annoyed that the BBC is filling almost it's entire Saturday night schedule with a "contest" no-one takes seriously. It's all political voting now anyway the songs have nothing to do with it.

petra Sat 14-May-16 16:31:54

Ana That's because they take it seriously, unlike 'us' who still think it's a bit of a joke.
I still watch it, but is not the same anymore without all the wiedos.

Ana Sat 14-May-16 16:18:52

A lot of the entries from other countries have been played a lot and are already big hits there, whereas ours get very little publicity before the programme.

wot Sat 14-May-16 15:56:07

nul points!!

merlotgran Sat 14-May-16 15:24:28

How come Australia is in it again this year? I thought last year was supposed to be a 'one off' confused

Maggiemaybe Sat 14-May-16 15:20:25

Oh, I always say I'm not watching it and then I always do. I'm irresistibly drawn to it somehow. There's always something that makes me laugh out loud, like those licentious (Polish?) washerwomen, or one of Graham Norton's quips (he's not quite as sharp as Sir Terry in my opinion, but he is funny). Like Alea, I think the presenters are usually dire. I like our entry this year, but feel it's a slow burner, not something that's going to have enough impact to attract votes. Could it be nul points for us again?

Alea Fri 13-May-16 18:08:43

There is a curiously irresistible urge I get each year to watch the Eurovision Song Contest. Years ago it was Katie Boyle switching with ease from English to French, now European presenters out shout each other in Americanised English and think they are screamingly funny. I loved Sir Terry but also enjoy Graham Norton's asides.
However, it is still excruciating!!

Newquay Fri 13-May-16 18:05:12

We have watched it but it's just not the same without Terry is it? Do they do a "highlights" prog so that you can whiz through it all like they do with the marathon does anyone know?
We've been invited-no idea why!- to DH's cousin. It's at a posh hotel and we're going with one of DH's sisters who can be emotionally needy? Not sure if we will know anyone else.
Have just phoned hotel "to check schedule"-it's going to be a long day. Ceremony at noon-be there for 11am-lovely will order a tray of coffee. Breakfast (!) at 3pm. Clear room at 6pm for evening do. . . .
DH and I will be in comfy armchairs somewhere snoring! It's an hour and half's drive too what with dropping off SIL. I'm teetotal so I'll be driving (not that DH or SIL drink much)!
Will need some stamina that's for sure-although not as much when we attend French dos-they go on till dawn and then start up again. Although we were much younger then?
