BBC news announced the English football squad would be given extra protection as would the other home countries . Seems we should refer to the UK as England and Co. Or England and the rest

And both the Irish football teams are in Euro 2016. Only Scotland is missing of the football nations of the British Isles.

Just to avoid further confusion, the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland have separate Association Football teams, and a combined Rugby Union team (which plays in Dublin).

Luckily for me the only football fan in this family is our son and he lives 102 miles away! So apart from him none of the rest of us cares who does what including winning and certainly won't be watching thank goodness!

I have two Welsh fans arriving next week! They are staying two weeks and have tickets for two of the matches. The tickets for one match I was able to get as a resident and at the correct UEFA price.
Just to liven things up I have a shopping bag (given to me ) which has' Allez France on it!

Northern Ireland have their own fantastic football team (Green and white army - GAWA).
And I totally agree with Anniebach!

Ana, as expected from you, sorry but it's true though and yes - I do say so and I do not lie

Jalima Wed 01-Jun-16 22:20:18

Does it mean we have to watch the football as well as sing?

No doubt DH will have it on [groans]

Anniebach Wed 01-Jun-16 22:18:09

Thank you Jamila. I like it , suitable for all ages to warble no matter their voice and I love the fact many if our failures were included . Wouldn't mind having shares in a company making our flag grin , must get mine spruced up , well the three ,one for front fence, one for back fence and one in living room

Ana Wed 01-Jun-16 22:09:55

I do truly believe the four countries should be treated with equal respect , I would have said the same if the newsreader had said Wales and the other home countries , not on

I find it hard to believe that you would have started a thread complaining that Wales had received more prominence by the BBC newsreader than any of the other football squads, ab, but if you say so...hmm

Not great quality (but that could be my speakers)

Anniebach Wed 01-Jun-16 22:04:18

Ooooh, thank you Daphne and Jen , most definitely Jen smile

It's called Together Stronger. Is that an omen?

durhamjen Wed 01-Jun-16 21:35:10

Manic Street Preachers.

Welshwife Wed 01-Jun-16 21:28:41

Annie just to let you know - on the Radio news this morning it started giving info about the football teams going to play in France. It did not give any squad in full but any notable inclusions or exclusions. They did the Englad team and then the Welsh - mentioning Gareth Bale - and then Ireland - I don't think Scotland got through to the group stage so they were not mentioned. Thought you would like to know that info!

Anniebach Wed 01-Jun-16 21:28:24

Is it Daphne? Please not Bassey or Tom Jones

Anniebach Wed 01-Jun-16 21:26:59

Farnorth , I didn't know Scotland were not playing ehich is why I express my irritating with the BBC for saying the other home countries, I thought they meant three countries , I was mistaken

FarNorth Wed 01-Jun-16 21:07:00

grin shows how much I know about football, or rugby, or whatever it is.

durhamjen Wed 01-Jun-16 21:02:54

They are not in it, FarNorth, so do not need extra protection.

The Welsh team song on the One Show tomorrow, Annie.

FarNorth Wed 01-Jun-16 20:54:11

How about the Scotland team? {waving my little saltire}

Anniebach Wed 01-Jun-16 13:07:58

Oh yes trisha, I am sure - the English team and the other home countries saved much time as apposed to the home country teams or England, Wales and Ireland teams

Anniebach Wed 01-Jun-16 13:04:37

Trisher, I am quite aware of what you said, you have repeated it several times. Nothing to do with voting , I pay my licence fee as do you , that's it

Anniebach Wed 01-Jun-16 13:00:43

It is sad that sport should be a target Jalima, who could forget 1972 murders in Munich , it was horrific

Jalima Wed 01-Jun-16 12:33:55

I disagree Jamila, two separate things, concern for the safety of players has not a thing to do with the BBC dismissing countries as other home nations
But a deflection from the real and very serious, worrying issue

I didn't know North and South of Ireland played as one team
I didn't know that either

I hope I have not been unpleasant, I just think it is a side issue (worth a complaint to the BBC as I said earlier, if someone feels strongly) but the main issue is the security of the players, Welsh, English, Irish. It's sad that sport should be a target for terrorism but it has happened before.

trisher Wed 01-Jun-16 12:33:44

Or Nonnie1 of being called a 'little englander'
In a democracy Anniebach the government is chosen by the greatest number of votes cast. Therefore by force of numbers the English have more say in the UK (much as you may dislike this) unless you propose some other form of governance they will continue to do so.
I don't see what your using the Welsh language on a forum has to do with any of this. I have always supported the use of a country's language wherever possible. And I never said that the English should have more prominence only that the news should be targeted to the largest audience.
As you admit that 2 of the news programmes named the Welsh team, the news is sometimes written to accommodate maximum info in least words so perhaps that is the reason for the omission.
