We will have been married 50 years in 2020. My brother in law and wife will also be celebrating their Golden Wedding soon after. I have got an awful feeling they will ask us to have a joint renewal with them.

I have been to one which was a 40th anniversary party and very embarrassing because we we all invited to say the vows after the couple involved had said theirs. There was a lot of mumbling as we were press ganged.

We Went to one a few years ago.... And it was cringeworthy loopyloo and we all pretended it wasn't.

rosesarered Thu 09-Jun-16 14:38:28

Nope! Once is enough, why should a vow be repeated?

jinglbellsfrocks Thu 09-Jun-16 14:06:57

Not likely! If I did I would change 'em drastically. Can't believe I went along with that obey thing. I'd keep the worldly goods bit though.

I knew someone who renewed her vows every year, going on a cruise, having the outfit etc. Turns out she was having an affair!

No it's not for me.
When D got married I joined a wedding planning site. (there were several other M.O.B.members too) A bride was planning the whole white wedding with bridesmaids the lot. This was for her 10yr renewal confused.
My friend had a renewal on her 20th just a few friends and close family about 15 people in all, with a bbq in her garden. A nice day but why not just have the bbq.

No , I wouldn't.

Made my vows 40 years ago. Kept to them so no need to renew them.

GandTea Thu 09-Jun-16 11:07:05

I would, especially at our Golden Wedding, but Mrs P doesn't want to.

No way, at 50 year a marriage is well past its use by date.

I'm with you, loopylou. Not for me, either. We are fifty years wed next month and we haven't managed to trash any of the ones we took the first time round (though it was a close run thing a time or two! smile). Can't really see the point in it.

Anya Thu 09-Jun-16 10:48:32

I wouldn't but if others want to then that's up to them. No skin off my nose.

loopylou Thu 09-Jun-16 10:44:19

Nope, not fume.
DH suggested it some years ago and wasn't happy that I said no......dd thought it was a lovely idea ?

I find in cringeworthy for some reason and I don't know anyone who's done it.

harrigran Thu 09-Jun-16 10:35:32

No I don't see the point.

merlotgran Thu 09-Jun-16 10:26:59

It always smacks of attention seeking to me. [cringe]

tanith Thu 09-Jun-16 10:21:26

No don't see the point either unless the vows have been reneged upon..

obieone Thu 09-Jun-16 10:21:02

Or wanted some attention for whatever it is they are advertising.

obieone Thu 09-Jun-16 10:19:33

Quite Kittylester grin

kittylester Thu 09-Jun-16 10:16:36

It is not a concept I've ever understood unless someone has done something that means they need reminding.grin

chelseababy Thu 09-Jun-16 10:15:54

No can't see the point. But then I'm divorced and been living with partner 21 years and don't see the need to make the vows in the first place. Once bitten.....?

grannywonder Thu 09-Jun-16 09:52:53

An impressive 50 years (in showbiz terms isn't that worth about double!? grin)
Very happy for them but not sure that kind of celebration is for me. The sentiment is there but I'd feel quite awkward asking people - even just family - to celebrate with me again. Would you renew your vows?
