Whitewave

" We have aired all the arguements".

That's the problem , it has been about arguing and shutting down any debate or listening to any thing or any body that doesn't suit some peoples view.

I found this statement from the DBI interesting, nothing more , nothing less . I have been so sickened by the lack of 'progressive' thinking, bitching and sniping I have given up on most posts to be honest.

Nobody is foolish enough to expect Kerbers speech to be sacrosanct , no more than anybody is foolish enough to believe what Cameron, Corbyn, Johnson et al say is sacrosanct, well , some might. It is what it is, another perspective and another voice that deserves a hearing.

No, you haven't, obieone!

Merkel has also said NO. Britain will never be given preferential treatment, it won't happen for all sorts of reasons, which doesn't need to be gone into we have aired all the arguments.

Whitewave "convince the other 26" Germany says jump, they ask, how high?

obieone Wed 22-Jun-16 17:13:39

They seem more or less useless as far as Britain is concerned on anything deemed important?

So saying we can veto an EU army for example,is almost totally wrong if we remain.

Have I got that right?

obieone Wed 22-Jun-16 17:10:23

Can someone explian vetos to me please?

As it seems to me that they are overridden many many times?

whitewave Wed 22-Jun-16 17:07:34

Has to be negotiated at EU level though. So can we guarantee that they can convince the other 26?

Well the Germans were hardly going to stop us buying their cars were they? - it's called shooting yourself in the foot!

As there are so many threads on the EU, here is another one, who knows where to post to get a point over?

I have been asking where is the 'Progressive' thinking as opposed to the partisan politics and spin we have been deluged with by both sides.

I think this comment is worth thinking about as it shines a light on the mind set of some in Europe who are extremely influencial and by a respected group who are miles away from our political arena.

Markus Kerber of the DBI, more influential than our CBI in Europe, has called for there to be NO trade barriers if the UK leaves the European Union.

Extracts from Markus Kerber's speech.

"It would be very, very foolish if the EU imposed trade barriers on the UK in the event it chose to leave the EU". "Any introduction to tariffs would be 'regression to times we thought we had left behind in the 1970's".

At last a progressive, mature, interference that is not thinking of retaliation but concentrating on what is sound judgement for all countries and their trade agreements to benefit all countries and their job prospects and not to cut anybody's nose off to spite their face as some childish people would do.
