Only a few months and there will be a new PM, who?

whitewave Wed 29-Jun-16 12:06:04

Blimey 100 years ago we were an Empire, then a United Kingdom, then part of an economic block as the United Kingdom, now England, soon be just a county! Won't be long before we disappear altogether

POGS Wed 29-Jun-16 12:00:15

There might be an English Assembly to match the other 3 nations.

Anniebach Wed 29-Jun-16 11:09:32

If Crabb became PM, what happens to English votes for English people ?

Beammeupscottie Wed 29-Jun-16 10:10:01

It is not shallow kl. My one hope of BJ not making it is the bloody awful hairstyle he sports! NM is lightweight - no hope.

kittylester Wed 29-Jun-16 10:02:33

I know it's shallow but I wish she's sort her hair out though!!

jinglbellsfrocks Wed 29-Jun-16 09:56:19

She'll do.

Sorted.

daphnedill Wed 29-Jun-16 09:56:18

I could say the same about my own MP, but woe betide the country if he were ever to be PM.

jinglbellsfrocks Wed 29-Jun-16 09:55:57

See! I knew she sounded nice!

kittylester Wed 29-Jun-16 09:54:28

I'm an not expressing an opinion on Nick Morgan's abilities as far as being pm is concerned but she is a flipping good local mp, very approachable, has a good team ( of very personable young men people) around her and, in my experience, gets things done. She replies to emails promptly too which our local mayor does not!

Re Lord Ashcroft's exit poll. The data received could not be said to be a representative cross section because the responses only came from those who were prepared to give this information, there will gave been a vast number of voters who will have declined to give this information.

jinglbellsfrocks Wed 29-Jun-16 09:44:11

Will listen again once they get today's edition online. (Why do they take so long?!)

Joelsnan Wed 29-Jun-16 09:41:51

Nicky Morgan appeared to be talking from another planet, dismissing any problem with immigration saying this was down to misinformation. Intrinsically there is nothing wrong with immigration, provided it is done in a controlled manor. I am sure those in Boston and similar would agree.
She also went on about the inter generational divide, the fact that the older generation are stealing a good life from the young. Maybe higher education was free for some, but this was only a very small minority of grammar school kids. Most went to work at 15 or 16 and worked for what they have achieved bringing a higher standard of living for their children.

daphnedill Wed 29-Jun-16 09:22:46

That surprises me, to be honest. Whenever I've heard her speak she's seemed like a Conservative HQ programmed robot. She was appalling at the NUT conference earlier this year. All she did was parrot party ideology and was uninspiring.

PS. Missed her on the Today Prog, so maybe she's improved.

jinglbellsfrocks Wed 29-Jun-16 09:15:17

So, Nicky Morgan is obviously going to stand, from what she said on the Today Prog. She sound pretty good. Spoke well and seemed a good thinker.

daphnedill Wed 29-Jun-16 06:16:56

Agreed, but you can't deny the raw data. People will always lie in polls, but the fact is that X number of people were asked how they just voted and for further details about age, etc. The bigger the sample, the more accurate it is and quite a large sample was used. There will always be a margin of error.

It's exactly the same with clinical trials or any other health story you read about. It's always a good idea to read about the methodology used to collect the data.

Lord Ashcroft pays for his polls himself. Originally they were supposed to support the Conservatives with strategy decisions, but as we all know (pig gate) he fell out with Cameron and I don't know why he continues funding them. I can't see that he has any reason to manipulate them.

Anya Wed 29-Jun-16 06:00:50

Exactly. There is estimated to be a high level of inaccuracy in all polls.

daphnedill Wed 29-Jun-16 05:55:49

The Ashcroft poll was an exit poll. From memory, I think about 14,000 people were polled. Most of the data in the media about age, occupation, educational qualifications of voters, etc has been compiled from this poll, which I've already linked at least twice.

If 4% of Ukip voters said they voted Remain, they could have been lying or maybe they did. It depends what the question was. If they were asked how they voted in the last general election, they might have changed their mind or they might support Ukip for some other reason.

Anya Wed 29-Jun-16 05:39:28

Just goes to show the level of accuracy of the polls if 4% of UKIP voted to remain grin

Jalima Tue 28-Jun-16 23:09:00

I wonder who they polled.
The Goves

TwiceAsNice Tue 28-Jun-16 23:00:25

Theresa May for me I voted to remain and am gutted it went the other way, time to have another woman pm and we might get somewhere although I liked Cameron pity he felt he had to fall on his sword

durhamjen Tue 28-Jun-16 22:59:34

Brilliant, Jalima. Best laugh I've had today. Nearly as good as the one about the poll in the Telegraph which says that nobody but Boris could enable the Tories to win the next election. I wonder who they polled.

Jalima Tue 28-Jun-16 22:55:08

Local West Country news this evening 28th June:

Interviewer: 'What do you think of Liam Fox becoming Prime Minister?'
Woman Interviewee: 'Oh, no I don't think so. He'll take us out of the EU'

confused

The legality of Jeremy Hunt's position.
You won't read it, obie. Far too long for you.

This is interesting. I dont know how accurate it is. Does anyone else?
Plenty of statistics to wade through.
I will have a better look at some point.

obieone Tue 28-Jun-16 18:02:06

No I didn't mean MPs. Ah, perhaps that is where I am getting confused. I will look into it all more.
